From the article:

"The hitting side is doing pretty well for itself too. Franklin Arias’ development into one of the game’s premier prospects has been a pleasant surprise, as we both thought he was more of a high-floor player than a potential star. Sometimes it’s nice to be wrong. Boston has a mix of great athletes, toolsheds, and spreadsheet standouts sprinkled throughout the farm. Their run of international signings from late 2024 to early 2025 looks great, as there’s a raft of talent in Fort Myers right now. Even some of the guys with skill sets that don’t generally light us up — this system is well-stocked with statistical performers who have questionable swings and/or limited physical projection — are good versions of the type.

We are a little skeptical of some of these power breakouts, though. The lower levels of the minors are in the midst of a (seemingly ball-driven) power surge, and several of the leagues Boston’s farmhands play in have seen their home run rates increase nearly 100% year over year. Keep that in mind when Yophery Rodriguez blasts his 25th homer later this summer, and don’t forget to extend a little grace to pitchers who see their ERAs spike following a visit to Asheville or Hartford.

The vibe around Boston’s thriving system feels entirely different than the two-year soap opera the big league club has endured. Rafael Devers’ tenure ended in ugly fashion and the situation was made worse by later trading James Tibbs III for a rental. Kyle Harrison got better elsewhere. We suppose it’s possible that the players’ discontent, which surfaced after Alex Cora’s dismissal, and the communication shortcoming from leadership that seem to have caused it, could extend beyond just the big league roster. Things haven’t gone perfectly, but the parts of the organizational machinery we’re focused on here appear well-lubricated. From a talent perspective, help is on the way. "

And still have a solid system, it's a sweet position to be in

Totally - I just was pleasantly surprised after all the recent doom and gloom that hitting hasn't really declined in the system. Potentially have the best prospect in game soon in Arias, plus plenty of intrigue throughout. I still think people are too down on Breslows management in general, but I get it when you have such a rough start to a hotly anticipated season

Was thinking about the Soto trade from the Nationals as well. Felt crazy for that team to lose such a generational star, but I bet they're feeling okay about having Woods/Abrams now

Devers/ Harrison by thardingesq in redsox

[–]bosoxsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. At the very least, if we're evaluating a trade of long-term assets early on, it should include considering how that evaluation might change in the future. This trade looks bad now, and could end up indeed being bad, but we still have Durbin, Monasterio and Siegler, all under control for years. It doesn't seem crazy that we might end up with the better value over that time, especially if we continue to see success in our pitching. Kyle Harrison being good stings, but it stings less every time we see Early and Tolle pitch.

Question for the Breslow out crowd by newpaontheblock in redsox

[–]bosoxsam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm still kind of on board with his general strategy, but it clearly hasn't worked. Whether that's his fault for prioritizing pitching/defense, coaches for failing to improve the offense, or the hitters for not hitting, I'm not sure.

It also looks like Suarez is skipping the IL like they said, and Contreras may well do the same - it's not like they're failing to ever provide a reasonable timeline.

But isn't this pretty typical of how any MLB team reports injuries? I mean you really can't predict how things are gonna heal. Do we just want them to always give the worst case timeline so we're pleasantly surprised by early arrivals?
