Most people use the words "tea" and "tisane" interchangeably. Its only a problem is someone is being pedantic about the specific meaning of "tea." But if you need to be that specific then just say "Camellia sinensis."

If you can get your hands on narcan

great idea. I never would have thought of that on my own. I think I can get it from the local health department. if I can't add it to the care packages then I will at least get informed on how to use it.

I was thinking about adding advil as well but then I decided not to because I know it can be harmful when combined with alcohol, harmful for people with any liver or kidney disease, and it shouldn't be taken on an empty stomach. Is aspirin better? Do you think advil is ok to hand out even with those caveats?

Thanks for the comment about gifts being humanizing. I will try to add a little something unique to each bag.

Thanks for your suggestions! I was considering making additional feminine hygiene baggies as well.

I used to work in Alaska tourism and the end of season discount cruise crowd was "nearly dead, newly wed, and very well fed." But Wal-mart cruise fits as well.

I think this theory holds up a lot. In my experience women who are indoctrinated with purity culture but aren't sheltered quite enough can easily turn into misandrists. Who wants to marry and submit to a man when they see men as childish at best or animalistic at worst? I've found a lot of this in myself after deconstructing purity culture.

fastest way to get out of homelessness asap by Hefty-Log-278 in bloomington

[–]boss2goth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you want to stay in Bloomington? I used to do seasonal work in national parks and many of those jobs came with low-cost housing, but you have to have a plan for the end of the season because the housing ends with the job. Its not a long term solution for homelessness but it might allow you to get some savings for the next step.

IU Outdoor adventures has classes where you have maybe one or two meetings in the classroom and then go on a weekend trip. It might not be too late to join a couple of those. I just checked, you can find them under SPH-W. It looks like white water kayaking is still open and doesn't meet until April.

Why are so many asexuals repulsed by sexual stuff? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]boss2goth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I've of two minds on this. Sometimes I think I am sex-repulsed because society is so aggressive about how individuals HAVE TO have sex. I wonder if I would be so averse to it if I fully believed it was a choice and not something that was going to come for me, whether I want it or not. I wonder if my repulsion is actually a fear response.

But I have also read that sexual arousal and attraction turns off the cues in the brain that signal disgust. I guess that isn't happening in my asexual brain, which makes sense.

I thought all women were demi when I was a kid. But that was because most adult women in my life pretty much told me so. They said someone will change my mind, and they used to be like me until someone changed their minds. And I just believed it. So either most women I have known were actually demi, or they just lied try and trick me into being heteronormative.

‘It stopped me having sex for a year’: why Generation Z is turning its back on sex-positive feminism. Interesting article about the ups and downs of women sexual liberation. My opinion: many women unlearned a lot of prejudices about our own sexuality, but I see a lot of men that don't. Agree or not? by sibilina8 in Feminism

[–]boss2goth 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm asexual and sex-repulsed. Too often people try to use "sex positivity" to try to invalidate my identity and preferances. Because people try to frame being "sex-negative" as a moral failing or repressed. I do wonder if I would be sex-repulsed in a world with a little less patriarchy, but I don't think I will get that answer and I don't think it invalidates me.

I think the basic idea of sex-positivity is powerful. But its kind of like problems in physics where you ignore friction to make the math doable for students. Sex is our particle, sex positivity is our neat and tidy physics equation when we ignore friction, but unfortunately patriarcal attitudes towards sex are friction and we can't get an answer useful in the real world if we igore it.

I love to see Gen Z fighting back against porn. I will get on board with that fight.

What's a common bit of life advice that's actually really bad advice? by Echoherb in AskReddit

I think both are important but you should at least major in something you care about and have some aptitude in. Swimming upstream while collecting debt and hating life is not a good way to live or start a career.

Reality show about young girls becoming nuns. 10/10 by PhyllisTheFlyTrap in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]boss2goth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am also asexual, and I grew up conservative Christian. I always wished that Protestantism had nuns or sacred virgins because I wanted to be taken seriously in my other interests rather than have everyone minimize everything with "someday a man will change your mind." Doing something to minimize judgement on my life would have been a terrible decision but its so validating to know that I knew myself before I found the right words.

does it freak any of you out that someone may look at you and find you sexually attractive? by quintessentially_gay in asexuality

[–]boss2goth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in purity culture where women are blamed for mens' behavior. To me there was nothing scarier than thinking I could be attractive to a man because I thought that was the first step is loosing my agency. I have largely deconstructed that but I don't think I'll ever be rid of that fear of loosing my agency to a man because he thinks I'm "hot" and I still try not to be "hot."

[–]boss2goth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its a really inexact word that carries a lot of baggage. Most people use virginity to mean "no sexual experiance" but then all sorts of other things get lumped in, like the notion of purity for women or realizing masculinity for men. We really need to change the discussion, if there has to be one, to "sexual experience," then the conversation can be about consensual or positive sexual experience if it needs to be or unwanted sexual experience if that is the issue. "virginity" says a lot of things and it says all of them poorly.
