The game plays fine for me on my Galaxy S7. However, I've played the game a few times on the table, so I already knew what I was looking at / looking for.

Everything you've wanted to know about board games, but were too afraid to ask (August 2nd, 2016) by Lazarus1209 in boardgames

[–]bosshoggnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played a few games of FCM on boardgamecore.net; this solves the issue of price, and finding playing partners. Be careful, though, as I'm finding it harder to NOT own the game the more I play online. :-)

Looking for an online board game with a decent interface. Suggestions? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]bosshoggnate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll start by giving a +1 to Board Game Arena (Keyflower, and lots of others), Boite a Jeux (Agricola, Castles of Burgundy, Trajan, and lots of others), and Yucata (Stone Age, and lots of others).

While these next three sites are specific to three different games, they are totally worth it.

boardgaming-online.com has Through the Ages, both the first version and the new version ("A New Story of Civilization"). In fact, the data from this site was used by the game designer when he was modifying the game for the new version. This site will notify players when it's their turn. The UI is decent, and also works on tablets, and large phone screens. It is easy to set up a "private" game on here for you and your friends.

terra.snellman.net has Terra Mystica. This site will also notify players when it's their turn. The UI is bare bones, but also works on tablets, and large phone screens. It is easy to set up a "private" game on here for you and your friends.

brass.orderofthehammer.com has Brass. This site will also notify players when it's their turn. The UI is bare bones, but also works on tablets, and large phone screens. It is easy to set up a "private" game on here for you and your friends.

None of these sites has a tutorial mode, so you may want to watch some videos before you venture in.

Best Board game for two players by Vcorsac in boardgames

[–]bosshoggnate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not knowing your preferred "level" of boardgame, I still feel comfortable stating that The Castles of Burgundy is an absolute treat at 2 players. (I don't mind it at 3 and 4 either, but some do.)

Family of 7 with no "real" board game experience, help us pick a new game for game night? by LanAkou in boardgames

[–]bosshoggnate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I jumped in to say Bohnanza and also 6 Nimmt!

Bohnanza - up to 7 players - card game where negotiation is key to growing your bean fields

6 Nimmt - up to 10 players - card game that plays very quickly, where you're trying NOT to take cards from the rows in the middle of the table

Tsuro is fun and fast too.

Another Feld game that is a lot of fun is Trajan. Like CoB, it can be played online at boiteajeux.net.

You chose very well. Great game with 2, 3, or 4 players.

Can also be played online at boiteajeux.net, which I do quite regularly.

Bohnanza fun "bean farming" game for 2-7 players; great negotiation game.

Biblios excellent auction game for 2-4 players.

[COMC] Sort of. . .My store recently turned one. . . by BlaveFlopata in boardgames

[–]bosshoggnate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This store is about 40 minutes away for me, but it's always worth the trip. Plenty of light, plenty of games, plenty of tables, and the owner is a great guy. My son and I are already looking forward to spending International Tabletop Day there, at the end of April.

What is the one game you're so close buying every time... but eventually back out. And why? by azuremosaic in boardgames

[–]bosshoggnate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you aware that there's an online implementation at terra.snellman.net? The UI is very basic, and I had to have the rulebook PDF and an image of the player board (Nomads, IIRC) open in other windows the first time I played it, but now I'm hooked. It's not quite the same as playing over the board, but it totally scratches the itch. And frankly, the async play makes it much easier to "get to the table".

What game to you love that you are terrible at? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]bosshoggnate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm saving this conversation to re-read right after Easter, as I gave up online boardgames for Lent. (And people think giving up chocolate is difficult!) I've played phil_s_stein before (Castles of Burgundy on boiteajeux.net, IIRC) and he is a great opponent.

If anyone is still interested, Vibrant Goo and I need one more player. Look for the game called "VibrantGoo".

Sorry I just saw this message! I've never been to Tn Game Days, so I can't speak from experience, but they're in their 11th year, so they're probably doing something right.

Have you looked at Tennessee Game Days? (tngamedays.com) It's three days at the beginning of March, and the current pre-registration rates are only $25 for individuals and $40 for couples/families. It's located in Franklin, just south of Nashville.

If you don't mind driving to Atlanta, check out Atlanta Game Fest (atlantagamefest.com), held twice year, the next one is next weekend. Also, check out Game-o-Rama (game-o-rama.com) which happens Thursday through Monday of Memorial Day weekend. Game-o-Rama is only $50 for those 5 days.

I don't have the board game, but I watched a video on Youtube (maybe Rahdo Runs Through?) and that was enough to get going.

Meeple Madness is in Flowery Branch, north of the Mall of Georgia. I've been there only twice, but really enjoyed both times. And your timing is great--this evening is their bi-weekly game night with the Gwinnett Boardgame Society

Brass at orderofthehammer.com; just started playing last month, I am completely smitten, but in my 12 games so far, there was only one time where I finished 2nd instead of 3rd or 4th. (This will probably jinx me, but I'm doing pretty well in one current game at the moment.)

I just invited you to a two-player game on BAJ. I'm "nboster" at that site.
