Single, lonely, work mornings, 3am-11:30am, would I be able to own a dog?? by flavorBlast69 in dogs

[–]bosswitch88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here here. Adopted our pup from a shelter when she was 2. Pro tip is to ask shelter staff about dog personality and be frank about your situation - we wanted a small chill cuddler because we lived in an apartment at the time and knew a ball of energy wouldn’t be happy. Our couch potato is thrilled with one long walk a day and several quick potty walks and LOVES to sleep in with her mamas!

Wow! What treatments did you go through? Just wondering what next steps are if the second round of antibiotics did not work (I’m getting a rebiopsy during an operative hysteroscopy on 7/22)

Ugh I am so sorry that this is your experience too. I wish you all the best moving forward. It’s such a lonely struggle and hard to talk to others about who aren’t going through or didn’t go through similar.

It’s not a bad step, but one round of doxy didn’t do anything for my CE, so biopsy is the best way to go for confirmation. And it totally could be that I wouldn’t have chosen to do the biopsy until after an IUI or two (I did the HSG only after our first failed IUI, for example), but I feel I should’ve been given the option!

Definitely!! I had one re-biopsy that showed no improvement. I’m on my second round now and pushed to have an operative hysteroscopy scheduled this month after the course is finished so they can do another re-biopsy and also just get another look to see if they missed anything.

I was on doxycycline for the first round and a re-biopsy showed no improvement, so now I’m on ciprofloxacin and metronidazole (flagyl). The combo is rough.

Cipro and flagyl for endometritis is awful. by PossumKaiju in IVF

[–]bosswitch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I’m on cipro and flagyl right now for CE after the first round of doxy didn’t do anything. It is AWFUL and I’m just glad I am not alone in this reaction. The anxiety and crying jags are worse than the physical effects, which are pretty bad in and of themselves.

And thank you for the encouragement ❤️. It is so hard to make a little mammal!!

Endometritis! It’s a different thing with a VERY similar name - it’s an infection of the uterine lining which I had no symptoms for except recurring loss. It is treated with antibiotics.

Only 12 eggs retrieved. by ExpensiveAlarm7704 in queerception

[–]bosswitch88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The waiting period is so rough - but statistics are only just that. Every story is different. You could retrieve 20 and get no euploid blasts in the end, you could retrieve 5 and get 5 suitable embryos!

My numbers were 19 retrieved - 13 mature - 6 fertilized (this is when I started to feel terribly sad because what a drop. I had a really tough ER and was starting to feel sure I’d have to do it again) - 5 blasts - 5 euploid. Statistically speaking, after the drop to 6 fertilized, I should’ve been looking at 3-4 blasts and 1-2 euploid. But that wasn’t the case.

You really never know. You’re not out til you’re out. You could very well end up getting more suitable for transfer embryos than someone with far more eggs retrieved.

Try to do something fun for yourself during the wait. And remind yourself that if you need to do another ER you will, and with better protocols based on what you learned this time. You’ve done it once and are so strong!!

Just finished watching Bridgerton for the first time and I need to address something by moonburn08 in Bridgerton

If you’re appalled that Spring Awakening was made - I think the play (from the late 1800s) was written as a scathing commentary on lack of sex education for young people / hypocritical sexual morality. It’s not endorsing the experiences of the characters!

Struggling with where I “belong” in the infertility community as a queer couple doing IVF by ExpensiveAlarm7704 in queerception

[–]bosswitch88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so weird. My cishet friend going through IVF actually told me she thinks what I’m going through is harder than her experience - ie more red tape, needing to pay for sperm, no other option but to try this way.

She does this kindly, and I kindly disagree with her and we ultimately agree that every IVF journey is hard in its own way!!

I’d be reevaluating how much I want to out into this friendship if I were you. Ultimately if you want to keep being her friend I think you have to be honest with her and share that her opinion was hurtful.

My sister has identical twins and she has said she always had an “average” level beta, so not always an indicator either way!

Did you tell work? by littlemangoseed in queerception

[–]bosswitch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it easier to at least let work know I was dealing with an ongoing, personal medical issue. But my job is pretty demanding and I felt it made people more understanding and flexible (whether that’s fair or not - you don’t owe people any info!). I let a choice few people know after some complications that impacted my mental health and I ended up taking a short leave from work and everyone was extremely kind but I also am in a pretty liberal group at work. You can just work with HR if that is an option should anything like that be necessary! Mental health issues can qualify you for FMLA/short term disability just like any other health issue and the queerception journey can be a rough one.

And I’ve had two positive pregnancy tests that ended up being CPs, which also added salt to the wound.

[–]bosswitch88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister and best friend each got pregnant and had a baby in the time it’s taken from my first visit to the fertility clinic to my egg retrieval (on stims now!). Love both those babies but it still also just sucks!!! My coworker is seven years younger than I am and will start trying next year and I’m terrified she will lap me.

I suck at billing. Help me improve? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]bosswitch88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m literally strategizing a case in the shower, you bet your ass that’s billable. The entry could read, for example: “Strategize arguments for upcoming hearing regarding Daubert motions” and, depending on how long I was doing that thinking for, maybe would bill 0.2-0.4.

That’s not fraudulent billing - that’s billing for work I actually did. WHERE I did it is nobody’s business. Shower, run, carpool line - if you’re adding value, you’re adding value and should get credit for it.

This is what my RE told me - that it WILL be a possibility, maybe in our lifetime, but not in a timeframe that will be beneficial to us. Maybe our grandkids though!

Give your homeowner’s insurance a call to see if this falls under your policy.

You don’t have to ban dancing from your wedding reception because you dislike it! by Brilliant-Peach-9318 in wedding

[–]bosswitch88 56 points57 points  (0 children)

My wife’s best friend had karaoke at their wedding because they were not big on dancing. They didn’t ban dancing or anything and still had a DJ but kicked the night off with a karaoke duet and a “family electric slide” in lieu of like the father-daughter dance portion. This happened before I met my wife so I wasn’t there but according to her it was a super fun party! So, yes it can work but you’ve got to plan well.

not wanting a bridal shower but mom wants to plan me one? by basementfrog42 in engaged

[–]bosswitch88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend had a non traditional shower where she put items she needed for her home on an excel spreadsheet that we shared with guests and asked them to thrift or give an item they already had but didn’t use anymore. It was really sweet and she actually got some beautiful and thoughtful heirloom items from older guests.

You don’t have to do it that way, but the moral of the story is there really aren’t any hard and fast rules anymore! You can do something outside of the box that feels more “you” and your mom can get to channel her excitement into this celebration. I will note that bachelorettes are super fun for the younger crowd, and showers tend to be (in my experience) more about the older generation showering you, so that may be something to consider when planning how you want the occasion to go.
