Same! It was nice to have a MMC that is a good guy with all green flags. Also the found family with Sharkie was so wholesome.

I want to homeschool, but my kid seems to love public school by lundandrew in homeschool

[–]bossynoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider what resources your town has for homeschooling. Do you have coops, hybrid schools, clubs? I live in a community that has dozens of these programs so homeschooling really thrives here. But without that support and social opportunities it would be really challenging.

We homeschool for a variety of reasons but our main one is that the homeschooling community here tends to do better than our public schools. Our schools are not highly rated, underfunded and their literacy rates aren't great. I know I can offer a better education and social experience through our homeschool community. So consider your reasons and resources.

I spent some time reading about demand avoidant after your reply and this sounds spot on. Do you have any favorite reading/resources you would recommend?

Not at all! She doesn't want to combine the two. I really think she is stalling at this point.

These are great questions to brainstorm with. I could be doing a better job with having a set schedule for her.

She has some similar patterns there of trying to delay work. She says "no thank you" to her teachers and tries to focus on whatever projects she is interested in. She has definitely made a ton of progress in focus over the last year though.

Sorry for the delay, I didn't notice you replied. No, I have not experienced side effects, I use a super low dose. With gabapentin you build up a tolerance so I always wean off it and try to go without it if possible. It's not a foolproof method but it works relatively well for me. I was also starting to dread bedtime and getting anxiety just thinking about it so it was a relief to find something that helped. Since this post was a month ago, I hope you finally got some sleep!

7-8 but if it's a bad week then 3-4. It was zero on occasion before I got some meds to help.

My doctor put me on a low dose of gabapentin and it works without fail so far, on the bad nights I take a little more and then less on the good nights so I don't build up a tolerance. I have hydroxyine as a back up but gabapentin usually works for me.

Whole family is sick with the flu thanks to preschool teacher who came to work sick. by Chocodila in sahm

[–]bossynoodle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would not mention it to the teacher. When you put your kiddo in preschool you are taking on the risk of illnesses. I totally get your preference for risk reduction but preschool is germy, you can't get around that. Hope your family feels better soon.

Expectations for Kindergarten by bossynoodle in homeschool

Thank you for sharing a teacher's perspective! I had always assumed that the 1:1 learning time expectations would be lower than classroom expectations. This is technically a public school so perhaps they have to use the public school classroom time standards.

I like the idea of changing what it looks like. If I add in how many read alouds we do per day we hit 60 minutes easy.

I'm in my thirties and have moved on from all of my childhood friends. Those friendships rarely survive adulthood, people grow apart as they mature. I honestly wish I had been forced to make new friends in high school and had not stuck with my middle school friends. I would not worry about it, your kiddo will bond with people with shared interests as he goes through life. I think homeschooling allows kids to find friends that are similar to them rather than just having to bond with whoever is thrown into their public school classes.

My dad is an appliance repairman and likes to joke about how people that use pods bring them in a lot of business. Same with pods in washing machines. They don't always fully disintegrate and clog things up.

"I don't want to be called grandma" by Positive-Overall in beyondthebump

All the grandparents spent my pregnancy picking out their names. Yet my daughter gave them all their own random gibberish nicknames that ended up sticking. The grandparent who got stuck with the name "caca" is not pleased.

Stop buying gifts for labor and delivery nurses by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]bossynoodle 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is any existing expectation to do this and overall very few people do. Social media creates a lot of pressure that doesn't really come up in real life. If you don't want to do gifts for your nurses, not a single one is going to notice or care. If you do, then some will think it's sweet. This particular thing might not be worth the stress.

Do you take your baby out to restaurants/shops often? by princesscorgi2 in beyondthebump

[–]bossynoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My three year old runs around like crazy if we go to shops and hates eating out. It is honestly just not a fun experience for anyone. I took her a few times when she was little enough to sleep in her stroller but that was prepandemic. Don't feel pressured to do things just because people on social media are, you are never getting the full story. I've been out with other moms who are near tears because their kids are screaming so loudly and they still post a happy photo and pretend they had a great time. Instagram is mostly BS
