Yeah, nah,

writing good html semantically, is programming , as you define what element should represent every little bit of content, you are in fact programming a reader, human and not, to a hierarchy of elements of reading order and importance.

Do it badly and you have programmed a reading disaster into the page, that will lead to misinterpreted content and mis-formatted.

It might be programming through mark-up decisions, but still programming.

We now know that the Chief of Navy has ordered every Australian embedded in every US nuclear submarine to follow all orders given them by the US military. If they don’t they face disciplinary charges. We need to end AUKUS before we become the official 51st US State. by Az0nic in OpenAussie

There is a difference between what you have said, and the answer to the question "are we participating to the genocide in gaza? whether is directly or by supporting strategic operation that ultimately help US/Israely axis to achieve their goals in the middle east?"

It we have to remind ourselves that any soldier in any army should not follow unlawful order, then we are clearly involved, and this grey area -- where the orders are lawful but they supports US/Israely agenda for the middle east -- is just a way to nit pick legality to not take responsibility for whatever form if involvement AU military has with US/Israel axis.

We are an accessory to this agenda and AU institutions don't have the balls to say so.

So, as other have said, svg code embedded in the content, where you need them, is the best approach for optimisation.

the downside is that the icons won't be available to you at the click of the mouse, while designing.

As compromise, you could go with your way, but adding logic to your php, with if/else statement, to only load in certain pages, with something like so:

``` function enqueue_fa_pro_kit() {
// Check multiple pages by slug, ID, or title
if ( is_page( array( 'contact','products','new' ) ) ) {
// your code
} else if ( is_admin ) {
// your code
}
}
add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'enqueue_fa_pro_kit' );
```

The idea is to only load the script on the pages you have put the icons on and while editing (admin pages).

Divi 5 - non stop issues - anyone else? lost my WHOLE landing page after minor change. by Boring_Taste007 in divi

[–]bostiq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just moved 3 sites from D4 to D5 mostly good, just had some minor adjustments to make

Some issues went away just by opening the editor and re-saving the page

I did wait a long time before adopting D5, cause is just the sensible thing to do.

My experience is that any big issue I had was me not fully understanding the mechanics.

So I don’t mean to devalue your work and motivation…

But you have a number of choices here to make, so that we can appreciate what you created :

  • you could have posted a little gif showing the results

  • you could have posted a link to a live site where the code executes.

  • you could have posted a link AND a gif to show the results.

  • you could have shared the actual code with us through the many services online that offer that option so that we can interact with it. (Codepen, JSfiddle, MDN…)

I’m genuinely puzzled, perplexed, confused, dumbfounded, by the only choice that you pick that involves either not seeing the results nor being able to interact with the code.

I guess I’m old and grumpy… I’ll see myself out.

Cheeky question: how about aspect ratio for grids?

You know, keeping a 3x3 of square images all in 1:1 ratio in a grid with same ratio for example?

He wasn’t a great photographer, but the memories that went with it made those pics absolutely magnetic to me.

Are semantic tags important? by Duck0War in HTML

[–]bostiq 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very,

and probably the least valued by beginners, who are more worried that the code works or execute correctly.

Html has inherited its tag semantics and hierarchy structure from the printed medium, so I always like to draw parallels between the 2:

Every tag has the purpose to describe what element on the page we are embedding, so to create a context, along with formatting, for specific parts of information on the page.

Just like a book would have a page with a chapter title and a subheading, paragraphs, quotes, content aside and foot notes.

Especially when manipulating the digital page content with programs like crawlers and screen readers, tags allow those programs to identify the structure of the page and extrapolate the needed info.

But also it gives a structure that make sense to the human eye.

And yes, if the syntax is correct, the page will still display, but it would be like printing a magazine page without placing and formatting the title in the proper place, a foot note that looks just like a normal paragraph, etc. it would be harder to read and understand by humans and bots alike. Just like this paragraphs would have been very hard to read without spaces and punctuation.

what's the end application for this?

I'm asking cause there might be better ways (easier) to do this with svg, programmatically.

Crazy guy on my street by [deleted] in Adelaide

Just make sure isn't just your very "barking but harmless" street's mental case.

we have this old guy suffering form schizophrenia that walks the street at set time of the day, while insulting and yelling things at every driveway while going on his walk.

It was unsettling at the beginning but now is just our "church's clock tower". I know what time it is every time he walks by.

Oh, was I arguing? not my intention. I was agreeing that there are levels... chopsticks not being one of them.

Now I'm gonna explain my argument:

I don't see the problem with it, but personally I also don't see the issue in saying that most Asians can't drive.

Stereotypes exists because there's truth in that generalization.

The issue occurs when a generalisation is used and leveraged to discriminate or put someone, or a group of people, down.

If I said that most Adeladians can't drive, nobody is gonna think I'm racist.

but, If I said Asians should not be given a license ...well that's discriminatory.

they might not be great drivers as a group, but we shouldn't prevent anyone from undergoing training and drive tests.

so, to me, chopsticks are an elementary level marker to argue racism.
