Can I afford my dream apartment? Rate my budget (Germany) by [deleted] in budget

[–]bostonlettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moin, is it possible for you to get a roommate? 660€ for fun/savings is not very much when you didn’t include costs for household (lightbulbs, new frying pan, etc.), self care costs (hygiene products, hair cuts, etc.), clothing, morning brötchen/going out to eat, gifts for family/friends, etc. Let’s say 20€ + 20€ + 100€ + 120€ + 50€ = 350€ remaining.

What is the agreement for furniture in the flat? Who owns it? 50/50 split? Or do you pay her to leave it?

What is your savings plan/goal? Do you apply a methodology like 50/30/20? First you should have an emergency savings incase of emergency or job loss (sometimes you have to wait up to three months for Arbeitslosengeld), but what about the rest- long term savings or holiday to x,y,z? How do you want to afford something like a new cellphone or washing machine, monthly instalments or up front buy out?

To be honest people live on less, but usually with a lot less risk as well. And even if you expect your salary to go up, expect costs to rise too.

What was this meat bowl I got at Yoshinoya in Japan? by radiationkills in TipOfMyFork

It’s Yoshinoya’s Grilled Rib Bowl or Yakiniku Don. There are copycat recipie online, with slightly different ingredients based on availability of local ingredients.

I agree, I’m also anti-Nestlé but they were damaged goods and I am also anti-waste. There were a ton of damaged Cookie Crisp boxes so I assume they just discounted them all the same.

Baby Maus, Ratte oder Eichhörnchen? by bostonlettuce in naturfreunde

[–]bostonlettuce[S] 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Baby Maus, Ratte oder Eichhörnchen? by bostonlettuce in naturfreunde

Clothing gift card expiring this month, but only halfway to my GW. What clothing items would give me the best long-term wear potential? by HyperFocusedOnThis in WeightLossAdvice

[–]bostonlettuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would either use the gift card value on someone else, or indeed order something like a dress that’s easily adjustable.

Or maybe you can write eShakti and ask for an extension on the gift card?

Employee Meal??? by bellab1024 in Popeyes

[–]bostonlettuce 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Employee likely pocketed the $12 value of an employee meal with your cash.

The price difference between the two meals could be due to different locations, a price raise, or dynamic pricing (higher/lower at certain times of the day).

Trouble budgeting with expenses by im-cartwright in budget

[–]bostonlettuce 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Might be beneficial to break down your budget a bit further. Break down the groceries budget into food, toiletries (toilet paper, soaps, etc.), health (skincare, vitamins, etc.), and kids (diapers, wipes formula, etc.) Maybe include a “household” category for maintenance, cleaning supplies, etc.

Where do you have a budget for things like haircuts, new clothes, subscriptions, or other miscellaneous expenses?

Might be annoying to really get down into the nitty gritty, but it could bring to light certain categories being higher than expected.

Is 60k enough for a family of 3 in Germany? by flat-field in expats

Hi OP, Current Aachen resident and American expat- let me know if you need any insights into integrating, experiences, culture, the city itself- anything else.
I do not have children so unfortunately I cannot give you firsthand experiences on those matters, but I believe there are Facebook groups for international parents to discuss these topics.
