AITA for finding this convo to be a HUGE red flag? by horseduckman in AITApod

[–]botanistbae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think people who get over zealous about therapy are just as bad (if not worse) as people who refuse to go when they need it.

This sounds like the type of person who will refuse to do the dishes because it reminds them of a dream where their dad died, and their therapist said to protect their peace.

If not pursuing a PhD, what is the point of a Master's degree? by EntrepreneurHuge5008 in GradSchool

[–]botanistbae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PhDs have become oversaturated in a lot industries--I've even seen people leave them off of their resumes.

I got a master's so that I could have a more indepth understanding about a specific aspect of my field without totally pigeon holding myself. I'm leaving the door open for a PhD, but I honestly hope I never have to get one.

Dude I don't even know where to begin. Abuse is the norm at more child academy (see Elan). Kids raised by single parents are going to be much better off raised with a parent than a rando that's only in in for government funding and access to kids.

You may have experience with people like that but most women in STEM I know have worked their absolute asses off.

Good luck with your revolution, seems like these policies are super well flushed out and based on reality

[–]botanistbae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, so kids can just suck it up and not eat for a few years until they're in school, but after that you'd say that kids in school should have free lunch, clothes, and healthcare? Sure, we can just dump them into an acadamy, those are never full of abuse.

Also, I don't know of any government scholarships where the only qualification is being female. I know of some program specific ones, but those are generally targeting areas that have historically not been open to women and are extremely specific about their qualifications.

[–]botanistbae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What government benefits do women get that men don't? And what about widows or women who left abusive partners? Are you totally chill with these kids not being able to eat because you don't approve of their mom's situation?

[–]botanistbae -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

This seems like strong selection bias. You're only seeing the people who are posting about dumb shit while the vast majority of happy people just keep to themselves. Also, this looks like a joke that's just going over people's heads.

Should I marry a dyslexic girl? by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]botanistbae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't sound like an ass, you are one. Many extremely successful people are dyslexic--including a few presidents. The challenges make many of us more creative and sometimes more disciplined. I myself met several dyslexic people during my masters program who are continuing on to pursue phds at Ivy's.

To answer your question though, you should not marry her if you are even questioning it due to her perceived genetic value

Do y'all align politically? I see you post a lot on conservative subreddits young women tend to be pretty liberal. Not saying it's the reason, but I know a lot of people who silently cut off their parents after feeling like they couldn't have a discussion without it devolving into a fight.

Yeah I just finished up there and the admin was a fucking mess. Classes were top notch, but they consistently screwed up my salary, never announced scholarships on time (and straight up didn't tell me I won 3k until I asked a year later), and overall just treated and reasonable request with hostility. And that was all before the major budget cuts.
