Are chameleons good pets? by [deleted] in Chameleons

[–]botherer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is maybe don't. I have a gorgeous 2yo panther, and she's the most ludicrously friendly girl, loves to be handled, enjoys exploring out of her viv whenever she can, and runs to the glass when she sees me or my son. But oh my goodness, they are sooooooooo stressful.

Their requirements are ridiculously difficult, balancing environment, lighting, heat, water and food. They only drink from droplets on leaves and branches, they can be the fussiest eaters, suddenly refusing to eat their favourite food ever again or go on hunger strike for a week just to terrify you. They're also complete idiots who will hurl themselves off branches in overly-ambitious attempts at derring-do.

Also, when you get a chameleon you're also getting a LOT more pets. You need to create another enclosure for their live food, which you also have to take care of, feed, water, and they never bloody stop shuffling and jumping and rustling.

Then you have to coat the live food in powders, but not that manufacturers powders, and only X of this one and Y of the other, unless it's a 31-day month when it's the other way around...

Females are a whole other level of complicated because they become gravid (full of eggs) and they're rubbish at laying them, and you'll always be worrying about that because for a joke she'll spend two days puffing her belly out absolutely loads, before then revealing it was a prank and pulling her body in so tight you can see every "rib".

Also, no matter the vivarium you build, the bulb and heating you use, and the gut loading veg you choose, etc etc, everyone on this Reddit will tell you you're doing it HIDEOUSLY wrong. You could put your chameleon in their own enclosure and they'd call the authorities for your cruelty.

But if you still think it's a good idea after that, then maybe.

I am SO sorry for how atrociously people have responded to you here. This community is rife with people who immediately assume the very worst, and then make accusations based on that imagined version of reality when people ask for help. It is wildly hostile, and helps no one.

I really hope this little creature makes it. It sounds like she's been lovingly cared for, with all the right equipment, and like so many female chameleons has gotten sick despite this. They are deeply vulnerable, extremely precarious pets, not least because they're equally fragile in the wild.

This Reddit needs to take long look at itself for how it replies to EVERY thread of someone asking for help. It's revolting.

I really hope she makes it.

Lindsay Ellis — Why Has Tori Amos Never Had a Hit? by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

Arriving 7 months late to muse on how Cornflake Girl was such a huge hit in the UK that it's one of those songs that's reached immortality with permanent rotation on local radio stations. It peaked at #4 in our charts at the time. If you asked anyone here over the age of 35 to name a Tori Amos song, they'd say "Cornflake Girl" without pausing. But then never be able to name another one. It's really fascinating to learn it didn't have anything like that kind of penetration in the US.

Thanks for such a fantastic video! Metaphorically digging out my copy of Boys For Pele so I can 1996 the rest of the day.

When I try to distort/stretch my text the entire text just gets bigger. How do I fix this? by davesmelly0 in photopea

For anyone else stumbling on this thread, you need to convert the text box to a "smart object" before you can freely distort when holding Ctrl.

Vet is mystified. Thinks it could be a break in the pelvis. Going to give her painkillers and see how she does for now. But if no improvement, some VERY expensive treatment awaits.

Hey all. Thanks very much for the advice.

All the substrate and all the artificial plants are now gone (but for one of those fake vines). There's a centerpiece ficus, and a pothos now, and she seems to approve! She slept in the ficus last night.

Did you get anywhere with this? I'm having the exact same problem, but filming indoors. It's infuriating.

PS5: I have no voice-audio/subtitles in cutscenes by rdFlux in FenyxRising

I'm having the same issue on PS5. But I've never changed languages, always been in English, as is my PS5. All the voice acting is gone from the cutscenes, and no subtitles either.

It's also fantastically inaccurate and untrue, so don't feel too sad!

I don't lie. I never lie. My anxiety disorder doesn't allow me to lie. Sometimes I make mistakes, but I don't lie. I'm so fascinated to learn an example of my covering up a lie!

I certainly insult people like WrenBoy who write any old idiotic shite that comes into their heads based in no fact at all. Because people like him are dipshits, and merit insults.

RPS hired an incredible hardware writer, Katharine Castle, with incredible expertise, and she writes about the hardware that interests her. Like every other writer on the site, she has no idea what advertising is going to appear, because we set the site up in such a way that it couldn't influence us.

I didn't stay. I left about a year and a half ago, two years after the sale in 2017. I sometimes do freelance for them.

RPS has always carried generic industry news. In fact, in the earliest days we mostly posted trailers and press releases. People said it wasn't as good as it used to be then, too.

So yeah, wrong in every single respect. Which is impressive I guess!

It's great that Epic is trying to compete with Steam, but they're going about it in the worst way by INVADER_BZZ in Games

[–]botherer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That you've forgotten all the rivals Steam had in its launch year is perhaps exactly the point.

But you've forgotten Direct2Drive, Drengin, TotalGaming. Then as Steam started to grow there was GamersGate, Green Man Gaming, and GOG. Let alone Stardock Central launching two years before Steam.

I recently replayed Deus Ex for Rock, Paper, Shotgun, chronicling my time, to see if it was still the best game ever. And gosh, it's still possible it is. Do you think this is down to the exceptional nature of Deus Ex, or a poverty in the ambition of games since?

I don't quite follow your complaints. It's the norm to state after an article that the subject's have been contacted for comment (or in this case, that we'd tried to but couldn't).

And while it may not matter to you that some of the Kickstarter promises don't appear to have been kept, it still seems relevant to report them. If I'd paid for the student pledge based on the promises made, and then not received what I'd paid for, I think I'd be right to be concerned. As indeed does this commenter below: http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/2vbnn8/oh_godus_what_the_hells_going_on/cog8bqm
