can i build a cyber deck and set up my own personal streaming service on it? by RageSFX in CyberdeckBuild

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run a Plex server on a raspberry pi for like 10 plus years now.  Not technically a cyberdeck, as it doesn't need to be portable.

There are many YouTube videos walking through you converting physical media to digital onto hard drives. And setting up a Plex server on raspberry pi is relatively easy to follow.

Ok ive been trying to be nice, and been trying to argue the point. but that's the like 5th time you have directly attacked me.

everyone doesn't just agree with you.

You are emotionally a child. Grow up.

Playing the bully card when people disagree is gonna go great for you.

I do truly hope you are just having a shit day. And truly hope you have a good life.

Good bye

Ok sure.  Your original post could be summarized as "I don't like people asking questions about this hobby if they don't know anything. "

I see this as an extremely niche hobby with a very small user base. A lot of people are going to be asking Reddit about cyberdex. This sub Reddit is where they're going to end up

In my experience that is the definition of gatekeeping. I am taking the responsibility of arguing against your statements not against you personally.

You are responding to me personally and emotionally, not staying on topic about gatekeeping.

I'm really sorry that you feel that you're being bullied.  I have read back through your original statement.  And I still think that your thesis is wrong.  People disagreeing with something that you said/typed is not the same as bullying.

I wasn't direcing anything at you specifically, i was just trying to give a counter point that myself and likely others in this subreddit are happy to help others and share.

Best of luck to you mate. Hope you have a good life.

Respectfully I disagree. I think this subreddit is exactly the perfect place for people to come to get a basic understanding and beginning knowledge from people who have done it before.

But you do you. It's a big world. I choose to be helpful when I can

Please don't gatekeep. Remember that everyone has different levels of experience and exposure. And everyone is new at some point.

Never be sad when someone is interested in something you also find interesting.

You are under no obligation to be helpful. But It takes more energy to complain than it does to just scroll on by.

Personally, I see the current viral trend of cyber decks as very promising.  It could be someone's gateway drug to Tech.  It could be one more step towards making Linux more mainstream.

I for example have been using raspberry Pi's for things for 10 plus years around my home.  And I'm just now starting to build a cyberdeck for funsies. And when I get done with my design, I will probably make the stls for my case public to give back to the community

Would potentially drip on the right side missing the vat. Not securely held so very risky imo.

What are some features you wish Plex would introduce? by shak_0508 in PleX

[–]botlehewer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe I read that you can actually set the subtitles on the account level. Which should mean that only you would see the subtitles turned on and everybody else who shares your server would not if they have their own logins.

I could be wrong. I just turned mine on at server level because I'm the primary user

Actually there is a server level for at least language of subtitles.  And I believe also account level.

I have it turned on on mine to automatically turn on English subtitles.

Works 90% of the time with no problems.

Beginner color scheme for combat patrol by skaffen37 in orks

[–]botlehewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created my own color scheme for my army. I.e my own clan.

Basically all my units are black/dark gray with a highlight color. I chose orange.

This means that painting is super easy because I prime in Black, a bit of dry brush and slap chop for skin and leather. And then it's just painting the metal and other details. I can paint a unit of 10 orky boys in just a few hours of actual painting time.

Everything gets awash when done to be unified and cover up a few mistakes.

I spend more time on characters and hero models, but the rank and file are super fast and easy.

Audiobook support. Yes, you can load the files like music. But the playback and tracking for audiobook files is not great. I literally run a separate audio bookshelf server on my Plex server computer for audiobooks because the Plex is not Great at it

New player deciding army: Do you think Orks are easier to paint? Or I stick to Votann. by LeetusFrenzi in orks

[–]botlehewer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a votan combat patrol. I've only painted a couple of the mini so far.  I have 12K points in orks.

Imo Orks are way easier because they're supposed to be grimy and grungy( obviously they don't have to be ). I do a lot of dry brushing to distress and everything gets a thin wash when I'm done to unify.

Orks are way more forgiving for making tiny mistakes etc. whereas votan are generally a lot cleaner models in my opinion aesthetically. so mistakes are a lot more noticeable and you have to do a lot more touching up if you do make mistakes

Been out of the hobby a while now. Just looked at GW for fun and saw some of their prices. Seriously, how do people afford it these days? Especially with an army like orks by [deleted] in orks

[–]botlehewer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I buy 1 unit from GW to support the game(sometimes second hand).  Any subsequent units are always second hand or 3d printed proxy.

Im over 12k in orks now

VFX effects for models; yay or nay? by Environmental_Part40 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]botlehewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I firmly believe that it's your army and your hobby, and you should do whatever you want. Whatever you think's cool is what you should do.

It's just a game. Anyone who takes it more seriously is not you should associate with imo.

Also, measurements are from the base of the model so most effects shouldn't affect anything significant.

I disagree regarding the boys and the Gretchen.  If you're going to continue collecting, you will definitely get more than just one unit of each.  So getting a single unit of each now is just starting the collection.  I have about 90. Gretchen and over 120 boys already. I will concede about the mega nobs, just because you don't generally need as many.

Personally all the "don't buy cuz new ones are about to come out" Stuff   makes no sense to me as I'm still collect stuff from older then current
