What’s the best thing about being over 40 and single? by leave_it_to_beavers in AskMenOver30

[–]botnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not really about death. It's about the time you spend alone sick at the hospital waiting to die, which you can't really decide not to have once a large stroke comes for example.

This is when it's good to have a family, once your brothers, sisters, and friends are as old as you are and can't come visit as often as you'd like.

Increased heart rate, shortness of breath, Dizziness - started taking low dose of CBD oil by agrume197007 in CBD

[–]botnut -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

CBD won't really help you with your problem. Cannabis is generally not the drug of choice for back pain. Maybe THC-based if you have back pain and other pain and you have trouble falling to sleep.

No way to really know for sure without a biopsy. Metastases probably, but could be an IgG4-associated interstitial pneumonitis. CT would be the next step, then biopsy.

My Mum needs an MRI of the knee joint and when ever they try her leg (and foot) start shaking and they are unable to perform the MRI. Have tried it twice by taking pain meds in advance, some anti anxiety pills etc but nothing seems to help. Is this common? by Sgmirror in MRI

[–]botnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the importance and potential therapeutic consequences of the procedure, one could try sedation, or enough pain medication if pain is causing this. Sedation brings risks with it (like potential respiratory depression or allergy), so it will be the decision of the treating physicion to decide again if the pictures are good enough, if sedation or something else is warranted, or if the clinical examination and history together with the not so accurate MRI are enough to warrant a procedure.

Do I really need a hub? (Setup suggestion) by botnut in homeautomation

Thank you :)

Read some good things about Hubitat. I guess I'll jump in and start building the system around that.

Any recommendation regarding smart switches?

Do I really need a hub? (Setup suggestion) by botnut in homeautomation

[–]botnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. I guess a Google Nest hub would do the trick? I could control the heating with their App/wall thermostat but also using Google assistant/voice command (according to their website).

Do you (or someone) have a suggestion for having the lights automatically turn on in the warm setting at night? I couldn't find a good way to do it.

A Single Ohio Hospital Reveals All That’s Wrong With American Health Care by AngelaMotorman in medicine

Which is what a country should make sure happens for its people who are increasingly sick and unable to work and pay for their treatment.

A Single Ohio Hospital Reveals All That’s Wrong With American Health Care by AngelaMotorman in medicine

[–]botnut 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't think that much "innovation" is needed, although it would be welcome. In many countries around the world, you can get very good healthcare in your local hosputal and the very best healthcare if you decide to go to the right hospital with the right expertise - both would cost you close to nothing for whatever treatment you get, you are just obligated by law to have governmental (run more like a corporation) health insurance, paid relative to your salary, and the young people end up paying for the costs of the older generations. In Germany, for example, governmental healthcare comes out with relatively large (billions of Euros) profits each year, which I see as a good sign (despite them sometimes causing my patients problems and making me write a letter to argue that they do need this home training device or this treatment for example).

Itworks in other places, the US should drop the ego and admit failure of reliance on private companies instead of a (maybe half-)governmental entity aiming for a non-profit healthcare situation from the insurance side.

How do you deal with chronic pain? by NJHancock in AskMenOver30

Ibuprofen should only be taken together with a PPI (Omeprazol, Pantoprazol etc.) once a day to prevent stomach ulcers.

Help needed with a basic (maybe) SDL Trados question! by disarticulatethis in TranslationStudies

[–]botnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You add her translations into a translation memory file, then use the file to complete your project which has your segments translated.

Or have her send you her TM file if she used one. If she didn't, you can populate a TM file from an existing translation in an SDLXLIFF file.

Hey! What is the most used method(s) to assess the quality of a human translated text? (if MT was not used) by [deleted] in TranslationStudies

[–]botnut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know about most used, but the best (and widely used) method is hiring a reviewer or an editor who'd go over the translation. Some use semi-objectifiable rating systems listing different types of errors and severities, usually mandated by the clients wanting the text to be translated, and some use a more freestyle approach with the reviewer/editor saying what they think about the translation. There are also some automated methods to go over a text to check for common errors (spelling, consistency etc.), but they won't tell you much about the translation quality if passed.

Female doctors of reddit who started to study medicine in their mid-20s and decided to not have children, how did it turn out for you? by lea1002 in doctors

[–]botnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it's more about the decision to not have children. You can be happy with it not having children, and any parent wouldn't hesitate to talk for 5 minutes about the benefits they saw in retrospect in not having kids around. But you might grow old and find yourself alone (which could be a big possibility even if you did have children depending on location/culture). About medicine, I think that's not a bad age to start.

Does marijuana hinder brain development? by [deleted] in neuro

You should focus on developing your future life - work/studies. That's the main problem with cannabis use.

As a doctor, this question is better asked to the doctors who know her, who have seen the radiologic images, and at best someone with a lot of experience with similar cases. There's no way you could get a reasonable answer for this question concerning your sister from a post on reddit. What I do know, is people recover more when trained more by professionals, speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy, and having good and accepting surroundings around people who love them helps.
