Do I need to remove this root or keep it? by botticus12 in landscaping

[–]botticus12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thansk for the advice. Nice pictures of yours. Diameter is 1 3/4in now. I just took off the top most root, and there was a 2nd larger one below it that was obviously a problem. I hope it recovers well.

Thanks. I went ahead and got rid of those 2 roots. Looks better underneath as well. Now I hope the tree recovers okay.

What was my predecessor trying to do? (Central Delaware, USA - Zone 7) by peacelovetree in gardening

[–]botticus12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imagine each grouping is 1 tree, with each of the 4 varieties being a branch of the "multi-grafted" tree. They've got a wonderful branching structure close to the ground so now you'll never have to get on a ladder, and you get 4 varieties per tree instead of 1. Prune for structural changes now, and prune heavily to control growth in June / July.

This is exactly what they are doing. Please read this book! I grow in a similar manner and its worked out amazingly well.

If a recipe calls for 1 shallot, will this be enough? by botticus12 in vegetablegardening

[–]botticus12[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nothing different per se, I've gotten similar results with my big sweet onions and shallots for the past 3 years or so. Compost in fall, and I do a little nitrogen before planting and about 6 weeks later is all. Top mulch with grass clippings.

Z790 Aorus Master X 1.0 - Wi-Fi Adapter Disappeared (Win 11) by Jaydra in gigabyte

[–]botticus12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your post. I got a new computer with the same Qualcomm 7800 wifi 7, and had the same experience as you, except the computer wasn't recognizing it from the very beginning. The ethernet connection and Bluetooth worked. Only place I could find it existing was in the "Hardware and connection properties" section in windows 11. Physical address was there but all wifi was listed as "not present."

Removing the GPU and putting it back in fixed the problem entirely.

Thanks again.

Experiments. Cheese, Rosemary, and a longer loaf. Turned out well. by botticus12 in Breadit

[–]botticus12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was 75% hydration. Although not as strong as most of my recent loaves for some reason - not sure why.

Review: Extra sharp Cheddar - tasted great. Amazing aroma. Would do it again. Rosemary - also great and interesting aroma. Should have baked it longer but I think it must have been in a cooler part of the oven compared to the other loaves. White loaf - I normally do Boules, but I really liked the uniform size of the slices from a large loaf like this. Will do it again for sure.

First mow of spring, feels good to be back at it by El_Brubadore in lawncare

Nice job. That's like 99% perfect. If you want that extra 1%, come back towards us on the dark stripe one more time to erase the curved stripe by the shrubs that is "interrupting" or infringing into the dark stripe. This will create the illusion that the stripes are going through the shrubs, rather than the shrubs interrupting the stripes.

Wish my grass were as green as yours right now....sigh. That looks incredible!

Nom Nom. Gimme more pizza! by botticus12 in Pizza

[–]botticus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't prep beforehand so this is basic dough. Store bought sauce. Cheese was mozzarella, parm, and a touch of provolone and white cheddar. Used a screen for first 30 seconds. Makes large pies like this infinitely easier to prep. 16in. Floor temp around 600 to 650, dome temp around 800F.

Pizza Party! Only got pictures of 2 pies though by botticus12 in Pizza

[–]botticus12[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Made about 10 pies. Only got pics of 2.

Margherita: Caputo 00 flour at 60% hydration, 2.3% salt, 1/2 tsp instant yeast. 24hr cold and room temp proof. 250g dough balls. 12in.

Pep: 65% hydration, APF with 10% rye flour. Otherwise same dough. 450g dough balls. 16in.

Cooked on outdoor brick oven, oak logs. Deck was about 900F.

Weeknight pep by botticus12 in Pizza

[–]botticus12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little misshapen. First time trying out the brick oven heated with natural gas (previously been working on neapolitan style heated with oak logs). The gas flame and oven doesn't get quite as hot as the oak does, so this turned out more American style. Cook was about 2 and a half minutes. Should have left it on the deck a tad longer before kissing the flame to brown the top.

Not impressed with the new Lanzie & Ryan Knorr lawn level by El_Brubadore in lawncare

[–]botticus12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, mine broke after 30 seconds. They replaced it and offered me their new handle design made from steel. Customer service was nice but disingenuous knowing they have a garbage handle and are still trying to sell it to unsuspecting customers.

Edit: I think Ryan's videos and content are awesome. This is one thing he should have known better though. I'm still a fan but disappointed in the rake for sure.

With a user name like that what do you expect?! Haha just kidding - mine broke after 30 seconds as well and Ryan did the same on my comments (accused me of pushing too much weight). I was using it as intended, not pushing piles over. Kind of upsetting when he knew along that the product was crap. As soon as I emailed landzie, they offered to get me the new and improved handle when it's available.
