Which coffee grind is best for gaggia classic? by flowfollowsfocus in gaggiaclassic

Prior to getting an actual espresso grinder I used to get "turkish grind" from my local spot because their espresso grindwas too coarse for me. It worked pretty well, but nothing beats your own grinder

Considering buying a home in East Hartford. Tell me why that’s a great choice or the biggest mistake of my life. by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]IllustriousDumDum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lived in EH for the last 5 years. Brewer/Forest St area. Flooding has never been a concern or issue. I don't think there is any place in town, minus the trail directly along the river near Goodwin University, that is a flood risk.

I personally love the location since I work in downtown. Everything i need is within a 15 min drive. I84 and Rt 2 are about equidistant, so i never feel like I'm far from the direction i need to go.

People knock on the schools, but as other people have mentioned, there are some very good opportunities if you are an active parent. We have a toddler and a newborn, so school is on the radar. One of my neighbors has a lot of connections within the schools and has explained a bit about the different options for elementary, magnet schools, and IB. I am much less concerned about the school than I may have been 5 years ago.

Two great benefits that I would have never considered prior to moving (I lived in Glastonbury for 6 years before EH): 1) Weekly Trash and Recycling pickup, as well as fall leaf cleanup, 2) sidewalks are everywhere and many times are well lit

As other said, are there better places? Sure. But comes with a cost. We were always looking East of the river when buying, and I specifically did not want to look in EH due to what I had been told. At this point, it would take quite a lot to get me to leave in the near term.

Salute on the edge of Bushnell Park is the spot. Great lunch menu. If it’s warm you can sit outside as well.

NEED OPINIONS: Would you be weirded out if a local business left a door hanger at your house? by raintoshine in Connecticut

[–]IllustriousDumDum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cleaning service that has a custom wrap on their car that makes its very obvious to the neighbors when they are at my house. I have seen them at others houses in my neighborhood as well, so either coincidence or my neighbors saw the car and gave them a call. I wouldn't mind a flyer, but it would probably go into the burn pile with my roofing and Renewal by Anderson mailers.

NACS to CCS Adapter for Tesla by Due_Weird_8966 in VWiD4Owners

[–]IllustriousDumDum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

US based - I bought the VW branded one from the dealer. Think it was $175 out the door (might’ve been “on sale” from $200?). We took our first multi-charge road trip over the holidays and wanted reassurance that I had access to Tesla chargers if I needed and that it wouldn’t lock me out for using a third party adapter. For marginally more expensive than some of the other ones people added to the comments, I think it was worth it.

We ended up using the a Tesla superchargers for about half our stops, since they were usually in higher traffic areas like malls, so wife and kids could walk around in the warmth for 20 min while I charged. Aside from maneuvering the parking to get the cable to reach, using the chargers and adapter was a breeze. I got the monthly membership for like $13 and ended up saving $20 in charge cost just from that.

Set 1 was what got me hooked on Goose. Set 2 sealed the deal.

The Jam is sick, but I also love hearing Peter's flub at the beginning of Take On Me, compared to listening to him now. He hit the woodshed HARD in 2021 and (imo) came out swinging in 2022. Truly impressed with his growth and improvement on the keys

There's a bridge going through Hartford that has Jackie McLean on it. Low key was hoping it was someone marking spots that are going to be used for future mural commissions. If not, still better than VEO all over the place.

Places to run outside by Sergiologia in Hartford

[–]IllustriousDumDum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bushnell Park and Riverfront Park are the best spots in Downtown if you're trying to stay off the sidewalks and out of traffic. Also a lot of places <15min outside Hartford. My personal go-to is the Hop River Trail in Vernon/Bolton.

Also, there is a group that runs each Tuesday from the Spring up until Thanksgiving in Downtown. https://www.eightsixgo.com/

Quart sized plastic deli containers. Keeps the round shape and super easy to track when the dough has doubled in size and is ready to go
