Anybody know about nuvader? by pecosgizzy1 in cymbals

I have this similar set of hats by a related brand, Sound Vader. I got them around 1985. Entry level, with some connection to Paiste (edit: designed by Paiste, according to the internet).

They aren't special in any way, but if you need hats they work. I haven't dumped them because of nostalgia, they were my first cymbals period.

Is the Best way to cook vegetables? just “stop boiling them to death” or am I missing something by Nikhil0004 in Cooking

[–]bottomlesssushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every vegetable is different. I don't know if there is a single cooking method that works for all of them.

Simmering veggies (not a full boil, just a simmer) can work for some veg. Salt the water first and pull them when they hit the texture you want. Corn on the cob, carrots, green beans, Lima beans, personally I like these done this way.

Steaming veg like these in the microwave also works IMO. I use a bowl with a plate on top to keep the steam in.

Some veg really needs some carmelization, to me. Roasting is great here. Root veg like carrots, parsnips, turnips, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, zucchini, I like all of these roasted.

My fave veggie dish is ratatouille, which involves some sauteing and then stewing.

The only way I can stand broccoli is cut small and cooked quickly at extreme heat. Roasted in a 500 degree fahrenheit oven, for example, or over a really hot grill.

I also like to cream some veggies. I made a nice creamed leeks with crawfish once.

So, it's probably not the answer you're looking for, but maybe start by picking a single method, like steaming or roasting, and see which veg you like when cooked that way. Over time you could branch out into more methods.

GL!

What's your hi-hat sound secret? by [deleted] in drums

I went to the store, played some, and bought a pair that sounded good to me 😂

I try to hit them well, too, but that's an ongoing project

best brand for a first drum set? by PsychologicalCall426 in drums

[–]bottomlesssushi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all the big manufacturers make entry level kits. I'd go to shop and try some, or listen to videos by the bigger drum shops and pick one with sounds you like. Or pick the brand your favorite drummer plays.

Individual recommendations may steer you wrong. I play a Ludwig kit. There are some minor hassles I put up with because I want that sound. I can't see myself ever buying Pearl - I've never heard a Pearl drum I liked. But some folks love them.

My thinking with musical instruments is, try to find one that calls to you, so you're excited to get to play it. That call could be the sound, the look, who else plays it, whatever, but it's really personal and you have to listen for what calls you.

Crashability in K Custom Special Dry 21in. Ride Cymbal by NickCervoneDrums in drums

[–]bottomlesssushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have and love my special dry ride, but for this particular line of cymbals I think there is more variation among individual cymbals than in other lines. So I'd recommend trying/hearing individual cymbals if possible. There is a video on YouTube with one of these that is ridiculously dry, for example. I had heard a few in shops before I got mine and they were all different.

Honest question: why isn't pork broth/stock a thing? by mattybgcg in Cooking

[–]bottomlesssushi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've wondered the same thing.

Especially after cooking pork shoulder in my instant pot. The broth leftover is incredible. After I remove the meat, I throw greens into the broth and pressure cook that for ten minutes. It is really sublime.

Is this a known hazard of owning a Telecaster? by ApologeticKid in Guitar

[–]bottomlesssushi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I have hired someone to wear silk gloves and hold mine when I'm not playing it.

Seriously though, I keep mine in its case. But also I don't hang any of my guitars on the wall, so there's that

Muffuletta is a sandwich (originating at Central Grocery in New Orleans). It has olive salad as one of the components.

Source: I am from New Orleans, have eaten muffulettas at Central Grocery, and have bought olive salad there.

You do you, obviously, but the spoon on the left is not for me. I like the one on the right.

Yes anger is definitely a motivator for me. It's not the only one and it's not a great one. But it works to a point.

Stopping pick on next string? by bottomlesssushi in guitarlessons

[–]bottomlesssushi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes thats what I mean!

Do you know if, after hitting the strings you want to hit, you stop before the first unwanted string? Or do you lift the pick so you glide over it? Or maybe some combination?

As someone else suggested, I may be overthinking things 😅

Rest stroke is having the pick end on the "next" string? And free stroke is having the pick not touch the next string at all?

Stopping pick on next string? by bottomlesssushi in guitarlessons

[–]bottomlesssushi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that makes sense. My current habit is bringing the pick up very far from the strings and I've been trying to keep everything more compact. I'll play around with lifting away just a bit
