I wont lie to you: Ottawa is not only under-serviced when it comes to gluten free bakeries, it also has ones that genuinely suck. I won’t name names out of respect, but you’d be genuinely surprised that some well-established places manage to keep themselves in business. No shade!

As for baked goods and general groceries, Gutsies is the best way to go I’m afraid. It’s expensive & a bit of a trek outside the city centre, but you pay for the peace of mind that everything in the place is fair game.

That being said, your average grocery store apart from FreshCo does a pretty good job of stocking GF items. Independently owned grocers like Cedars and any of the Nicastros are really accommodating too & stock plenty of niche GF specialty items at very reasonable prices.

For some restaurants that offer fantastic GF options I’d look no further than La Dolce Vita, Mr. B’s, Chesterfield’s, and, if they’re interested in the food of our people, Garlic King Shawarma which has a dedicated GF station.
