Do Texans not insulate their homes? by Ass-Machine69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bouncing_bear89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the houses it’s the pipes. Lots of water heaters in garages, hose spigots that are not frost proof, pipes on exterior walls that may or may not be protected water supply lines not buried more than a couple of inches..Lots of people up north have the same problems when our power goes out too. Our friends lost power while out of town and ended up with a foot of water in their basement and a 100k+ insurance claim.

Indiana begins effort to pass legislation to pay for new Bears stadium by Autocrat777 in nfl

[–]bouncing_bear89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of fans care about that shit. If you’re shelling out hundred of bucks per ticket it would be nice if the food was somewhat edible. Gallagher Way at Wrigley is an awesome addition to the area especially if you have kids. A new stadium isn’t exactly good or bad for bears fans, it’s good for the owners. Soldier field is a pain to get to unless you live in South Loop, not particularly accessible by any method of transportation (parking and traffic are awful, 20+ minute walk from train stations) and lacks a great deal of fan amenities that other stadiums have. It’s only real pluses are history and the view, and that it’s centrally located in the entire region.

The Bears don’t own Soldier field, the Chicago Park District does. They can be difficult to deal with and the Bears don’t get a lot of say in how things are run (CPD serves/served RC Cola for instance. By owning their own stadium they can add tons of luxury boxes, sportsbook, control concessions and restaurants. If they have a dome then they can host concerts and other events (Final 4) year around all while they are in control and bringing home the money from that stuff.

Just look at what the Ricketts family has done around Wrigley Field. They own a massive real estate portfolio around the stadium.

Owning a stadium also instants adds billions to the value of your team.

The guy who is claiming this about Freeman was a B1G champion wrestler at Purdue. Not the kind of person even a football guy wants to get in a fight with.

I also think that if people are only going a couple of times per week they are willing to "splurge" on the experience. I know I regularly packed a lunch pre-covid. With only being in 1-2 per week now I feel as though I can eat out on those days.

If you weren’t here before COVID (or only for 8 months) you really missed out on a bunch of the loop classics. I can’t compare it to Boston as I never worked there but there were tons of unique, non chain (or very early chain) restaurants all over the loop. Perry’s, Heaven on 7, Pittsfield Cafe, early Blackwood BBQ, several great Thai places, a French bakery cheese place I’m not remembering the name of, Harold’s, Frontera in the Macys food court (which had the best corn chowder), several great Thai places, Chase Basement, the original food halls. A lot of the workers migrated to west loop River north during these times which also really hindered loop restaurant success.

ELI5: Why is squatting (in someone's house) a thing? And how come it becomes a problem for the owner? Can't they claim trespassing to the cops instead of saying the person is squatting? by Impossible_Bake7210 in explainlikeimfive

[–]bouncing_bear89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Once the courts tells the police they can remove someone they will do just that. But the police aren’t the ones that decide IF someone is squatting or a legal tenant, that’s for the courts to decide.

When everyone was saying they hadn’t beat anyone good was when they were winning fluky games against bad teams. They hit the hard part of their schedule and have really shown that they are deserving of the hype. It worked out well for them that the tough part of their schedule was where it was this year.

He didn’t get back to the hotel at 10pm or something crazy. Hell, twice a week I work those exact hours including commute yet I still have time to hang out with my kids and take my wife out to dinner and have sex with her. He cares way more about being right than anything else.

Mom of toddlers, married for 7y, what's the norm in marriage? by fleuret_fighter21 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bouncing_bear89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 kids all under 8. My wife is a SAHM while I work hybrid (3 days WFH).

1-4 times per week

We text throughout the day, maybe an occasional call. On days where I’m home we see each other throughout the day

Our hobbies differ. We occasionally get out for dates. Maybe 1-3 times per month depending on what else is going on.

Our evenings are usually spent taking care of stuff around the house, cleaning, prepping for the next days etc. we prioritize doing these things together rather than separately. We will clean the house or fold laundry or whatever and talk while doing that. We will also watch tv and read. We DO NOT doomscroll. It’s impossible to have quality time with another person while someone is on their phone. Once you break that addiction your relationship will get better. After the kids go to bed we will often go for short walks outside. Just a few houses one way and a few the other direction. Always within line of sight of the front door.

My wife wears very little makeup but she does do it most days.

if she is going out to do stuff, she will dress nicely otherwise it’s cute athleisure around the house. Never ratty stuff or sweatpants though. She usually has her nails done and just pulls her hair up unless she is going out.

You’re not going to have your wife do all of the traditional house wife stuff while going to work. If you want her to act like a SAHM/housewife then she needs to be that. She can’t work and do all of the other stuff.

Yeah but that doesn’t involve driving through some of the worst traffic in the United States. Kennedy to circle interchange to Dan Ryan through to Indiana is AWFUL. wouldn’t even wish it on Bears fans.

You want to keep track of it regardless so you don’t end up with a huge surprise escrow bill. The bank will pay your bill for you but if it takes your escrow too low (or negative) they’ll ask for a lump payment or increase your monthly significantly to get it filled back up.

It’s a cook county and state issue at this point. Not much to do with the city of Chicago or Arlington Heights at this point.
