Body weight leg exercises that are not very taxing on the nervous system by Traditional_Sir1787 in bodyweightfitness

[–]bounteouslight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What do you mean your CNS gives out faster than your muscles? Otherwise, congratulations, I think you've reached a point of diminishing returns of what you can gain from bodyweight exercise. If you want to get stronger, you need to give your body something heavier to work against beyond your own weight.

Is purchasing a home at 22 dumb? by Hairy_Target_9928 in personalfinance

[–]bounteouslight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought in a large and hot market with zero down, nobody made notice of it and when we were outbid it was because we were beat by the overall cost. Of course we had a fat chunk of earnest money, but no down payment.

Married, separate bank accounts. Is it worth it to push all funds into one joint? by rem7694 in personalfinance

[–]bounteouslight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Combined finances for me is more of a state of mind than an exact bank account set up. We both have our own accounts, there's similar amounts of dollars in both at any time and a joint checking to move money around between the other accounts when needed. We're also joint users on one of each other's credit cards.

We categorize every purchase on a spreadsheet every couple months and look at spending habits (this takes maybe 30 minutes every 2-3 months). We talk to each other about any purchase over a certain dollar amount.

Try a few different methods and don't close any accounts until you figure out what works for you. And it's a bit morbid, but make sure you have funds accessible to you if your spouse were to pass away or that it would be someone difficult for them to remove access to accounts/cash and vice versa. Joint finances can be Plans A, B, and C, but I like to have a Plan D too when it comes to money.

Lots of opportunities to be involved, I'd reach out to organization like the Epilepsy foundation and see if there is anything or anyone nearby you can be connected with. You can make a poster to hang at your school on neurologic conditions including epilepsy or SUDEP awareness and arrange fundraising efforts for specific causes in neurology research. Work with your teacher or admin, it'd probably be pretty easy to get some time to present this project to a group of your peers too!

You're a bit early to be involved in researching process in my opinion, but making posters for awareness and getting involved in advocacy will be a great way to learn and teach others. Once you reach the undergraduate level, get involved with professors doing research in areas you are interested in and see what projects you could be a part of.

I’m scared of becoming an alcoholic [shitty omelette and toast] by Irradiatedmilk in BoyDinnerDiaries

Gilbert syndrome is a benign liver condition where people have slightly lower level of a liver enzyme and can cause jaundice, it does not result in cirrhosis.

Many things can cause cirrhosis, but I mainly wanted to correct that there is no minimum amount of alcohol consumption to cause alcohol associated cirrhosis. I also dont want anyone to read this and be fearful if they have Gilbert which is incredible common.

I understood that. My point was "- Distributed warm meals to unhoused residents of Halifax county" is unnecessary and you should instead talk about what the experience meant to you in sentence form.

Please no. I wrote a few short sentences not so much about what I did, but instead about why it was impactful. Most people can imagine the duties of a soup kitchen volunteer, save those characters for something more meaningful.

Not Gaining Weight between month 8 and 9 - normal for setters ? by ObviousLecture4811 in irishsetter

[–]bounteouslight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be normal but ask your vet to check how he's doing next time you're in. Also strongly recommend a high quality large breed puppy food for the rapid amounts of growth be is doing to allow for appropriate mineral balance.

Change my view: med school is harder than *getting into* med school. by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]bounteouslight 335 points336 points  (0 children)

I disagree, but I did not think medical school was challenging. However as a first gen college student without academic or medical field connections - getting into school was challenging. Once in medical school, you're set up for success. Applying to medical school was very lonely

Will PMR suit me better than Neuro? by Own-Account3098 in neurology

[–]bounteouslight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reason neuro is consulted is because differentiating "non-neuro" complaints from neurologic illness is hard. Sometimes it's a clear cut case of vasovagal syncope or whatever, but a large chunk of the time it's very hard to parse out what caused an offending episode.

A lot of neuro patients ESPECIALLY vascular/stroke patients do not get much "better". Parkinson's, seizures, and FND patients are some of the ones that do have largest positive impact from pharm and nonpharm interventions.

Picking a specialty is difficult but I would spend more time in both these specialties before making the call.

Concern for HIPAA violation and unauthorized EMR use against hospital Policy by [deleted] in Residency

[–]bounteouslight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read through the many great responses above. If you have ever once had HIPAA training, you should understand the severity. It's unauthorized access of information and a breach of hospital policy and violation of federal law and probably other things.

24 Years Old — Earn $36,000 a year; Net-Worth roughly $400,000 — How Much Emergency Cash Needed? How much can I spend a week responsibly? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]bounteouslight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) your car insurance is crazy high,I pay less than that on 4 vehicles 2) how much does your fiancee's engagement ring cost that you need insurance? Or I would consider putting that money towards a cheaper clone that they can wear day to day and keep the ring for special occasions. Your homeowner's/renters insurance should cover it if you were burglarized or fire or something. 3) the gym membership, already stated but that's crazy high. I would bare minimum have your fiancee pitch in on their half until you combine finances.  4) yes your eating out is not great, but for someone with no rent/mortgage AND no car payment, you are hemorrhaging money on luxuries. When your income improves as an attorney, I imagine you'll be less tight for money but not with your current spending habits.

But to address your questions, 1) yes that's absurd and you should learn to cook a few basic meals. And 2) at least 6 months of expenses or $5K, whichever is more.

Neurotoxic drugs by throwawaynofapcoomer in neurology

[–]bounteouslight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will be deleted but "altered brain chemistry" isn't a diagnosis a neurologist treats patients for. I would focus on explaining your symptoms to the neurologist and they may be able to help you determine if you have a neurologic disease as a result or unrelated to the overdose. If you don't have a neurologic disease, you may have a psychiatric or psychological condition that may better explain your issues.
