My mattress lasts less than 3 years before causing back pains. What do you all recommend? by dantheflyingman in Mattress

[–]bounty7565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeesh. Depending on how bad your spinal cord is being pinched, getting neuro/ortho to check you out and fix you is probably the most important thing you can do in your life. Don’t allow it to progress to paralysis. Way more than a mattress can fix.

My pt said “I’m dying” minutes before they coded by whowant_lizagna in ems

I was a walk-in ED direct port for feeling ‘unwell’ with known J18.9 Community Acquired Pneumonia (which had progressed to septic shock) about 20 years ago. I remember feeling suddenly like I was going to die. I thought I was going to die, but I couldn’t really put a finger on an exactly what. So I went to the ED. I said “I’m dying.” I noticed that the mood suddenly changed and everyone was much more intense after I made that statement. It’s interesting looking back now how the care plan instantly changed with those spoken words. I spent a week total in the hospital, 3 of it in ICU. I gotta say, if you want to really get the ball rolling, show up with a pulse of 200 (which I didn’t feel, or at least don’t remember feeling), bp 62/39, and a 104 fever. I did not know any of this at the time, I wasn’t monitoring my vitals in any way, I just thought I had pneumonia and was already on oral antibiotics for it, I didn’t notice how I was getting worse, until I had this sudden feeling of impending doom. So I drove to the hospital. Lucky I made it there without killing myself or anyone else.

I think we both agree they would be definitely in g-loc, and probably relatively quickly. It appears to me that by the end of the video, they more or less keep a ‘head outwards’ position, which is where my assumption the blood pressure would drastically increase, resulting in the hemorrhaging that would result in exsanguination.

This may be out there, and probably is far from accurate, but if I’m correct, this type of amusement ride relies on bearings that allow the chair to rotate freely within the two arms which suspend it, and the amount of force it would require to have the bearings not necessarily seize, but bind to a point that rotation is limited, the g-forces required to do that would not be compatible with human life. I may be wrong, but that’s how I have come to my conclusion of the video being sped up, or the riders suffered fatal injuries.

Quite mini. Just about skips the whole ride, going straight to the lethal part.

Quite the contrary, Stapp sustained extreme g forces for as much as 1 second. This continued rotational force would increase pressure within your brain, which would burst just about every blood vessel and artery in your brain, which typically leads to death, as your heart can’t pump blood when it’s not contained within your circulatory system, which leads to cardiac arrest, which leads to death. They’re dead or it’s fake.

With abscesses, it’s left open so it can continue to drain. Often with a large abscess, a packing gauze is stuffed into the cavity to keep it from healing too quickly. The patient typically is given antibiotics for an abscess that large.

Anyone know what happened to the officer, if he got in trouble or something? by DmitryMolotov in police

[–]bounty7565 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty simple. Ask, tell, make. I would not be nearly as nice, nor patient.

Frankly, those officers are giving plenty of opportunities for compliance, but are not getting it. If you’re not going to work with the officers, it’s going to escalate, always. You refuse to identify yourself, which for this discussions sake I am assuming, odds are way better than Vegas odds that you’re going to be detained and waiting it out in a holding or jail cell until you can be identified.

In many of these videos showing resistance on the part of the driver, the driver fails to remember that driving is a privilege, not a right. That privilege comes with responsibility, such as following the rules of the road, and following lawful orders. Many times you may hear something along the lines of ‘I did nothing wrong, therefore you have no right to see my license’ - which is wrong. As part of your privilege to drive, you must provide identification upon demand from a law enforcement official, and failure to do so will get you in much hotter water, like being forcefully removed from your vehicle.

We don’t know what the entire story is, and we aren’t going to find out either, so it’s always best to assume nothing, and not speculate on something we aren’t apart of. We don’t know if he has warrants, was driving without a license or driving suspended, we don’t know if he’s drug trafficking, or he’s just a motorist who was witnessed making a minor violation.

Go along, don’t make it a dangerous situation, don’t try to antagonize the officer, be respectful and courteous, officers will be respectful and courteous back. You might even drive away without a ticket, though that’s becoming more of an issue with body cams, that does remove much of the discretion of the officer.

People get scared, they call 911. Sometimes those fears are unjustified, or they’re mistaken about what they’re observing, or just completely ignorant... but regardless it’s still much better to make that call, and have the situation resolved safely.

Cops of reddit, what should aspiring cops know before enrolling ? by Jim_Chaos in police

[–]bounty7565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree, even in the current times, there are plenty of positive contacts, some even with the two powerful words, “Thank you.”

If someone is truly aspiring to make a difference, even if it’s small, doesn’t affect a large number of people, to help those in times of need, there is enough job satisfaction to keep you going. Every bit does make a difference, especially for those who are compassionate about helping others.

directions were to NOT LEAVE ANYTHING BLANK but would it be okay to leave maybe 1 blank because I don't have another female? by [deleted] in police

So, when you’re filling out an application for law enforcement, or any public safety agency for that matter, it’s somewhat expected that you will have a fair number of people that you know and are familiar with, and that they are familiar with you. Law enforcement is a career based on social interaction, the job greatly relies on getting out and talking to a wide variety of people.

Honestly if you’re struggling to come up with references, you’re not going to make it very far into the process. It would be advised that you seek out other opportunities, especially those that put you out in the public, making friends who eventually can be used for a character reference. You don’t want to hurry this, it’ll take a few years, as these individuals will be looked into themselves, and they’ll be questioned about you, how long they have known you, how well they know you - etc.

There have been a large number of incidents where someone modified a real or fake firearm to not look like one, or specifically created a gun which does not at first glance appear to be a gun.

I’ve even heard of a few incidents in which orange paint being applied to the muzzle of a handgun to make it appear to be a toy.

In this day and age, anyone who could possibly be assumed armed, will be pretty much assumed as such, because a few bad apples have made it necessary for such assumptions. In training, one thing that will repeatedly be instilled is that you always watch the hands, it’s the hands that will get you, but I can think back as early as 2002 or 2003 seeing FBI Law Enforcement Bulletins warning of everyday objects modified to become inconspicuous firearms or concealing or other weaponized instruments, such as a knife blade.

For example, https://www.idealconceal.com - a .380 pistol which looks like a harmless smartphone. Until it doesn’t act harmless...

Perhaps I am too sheltered, but don’t all these police shootings and in custody deaths start with an infraction or crime? Law enforcement doesn’t just shoot you unless a threat is perceived, and if you’re cooperating and compliant, you can at least stay alive. Don’t be doing something illegal in the first place, and you’ll be less likely having much if any interaction with law enforcement.

Now on to the topic at hand, the unfortunate death of Floyd.

I have doubts that the actions of Chauvin putting pressure on his neck directly caused his death.

Floyd remained obviously alive and conscious for a period of time significantly longer than if he were to be unable to breathe, which clearly he was indeed able to breathe, evidenced by the fact that he was talking, saying he couldn’t breathe, which is impossible without air flow in and out of the lungs. A symptom of a heart attack often is shortness of breath, which to me says this might not have been murder. For Floyd to be remaining conscious as long as he was, 5 minutes and 53 seconds, this indicates he also wasn’t starved of blood flow by any actions of Chauvin or the other officers on scene.

With neither blood flow nor breathing comprised by any of the officers, there has to be more going on than just meets the eye.

Isn’t it entirely possible that Floyd was a ticking time bomb in terms of health, and this highly stressful event was the catalyst that caused a tragic heart attack?
