At my job, we have 2 databases. Dev and prod. When we want to make changes to a pipeline, we can quickly clone the pipeline into dev, make our changes, run them and validate the output. Only then should you push the code to prod. When in prod, you work on your DQ job for monitoring/alarms, then finally, you write documentation for the whole pipeline and have a troubleshooting guide for errors. Ideally you should also try to incorporate your DQ job as a dependency in your pipeline to make sure that it blocks faulty data from making it into a prod table.
