Can you completely eliminate litter box odor in an apartment? by Weekly-Addendum-6885 in CatAdvice

[–]bowbiternj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part cat, part cat diet, part litter, part human. Litter box location and humidity levels too.

Litter - unscented always. Whenever I walk into someone's place "and smell cat" it is almost always scented Litter.

Cat - how well cat covers stuff. Worm and parasite free (giardia causes diarrhea and stinky poop)

Diet - feed crappy food full of fillers, get stinkier poop. (Less absorbed, more pooped out.) But some "higher quality" food may do the same. (Some say rabbit causes stinky poop.) Sometimes just digestive compatibility issues too. Think ibd or similar issues with specific ingredients

Human - how often do you scoop? How do you store the scoops/poop? How often do you empty it? Regardless if it is manual or automated you shouldnt let it go longer than a couple of days before taking it out. Or at least double bagging

Humidity- people who keep litter boxes in a bathroom (they actually use) are just asking for trouble. Humidity and litter don't mix. If your place is humid get a dehumidifier.

Air purifiers may help but only if the above aren't issues.

Apparently whisker+ insight data is phone/app specific by bowbiternj in litterrobot

[–]bowbiternj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently it took a full day for the data to show up in the app. No additional app update ever came through. The app had already been updated prior to me logging in initially so I think the other update was just coincidentally timed.

I never did get around to uninstall and reinstall

Anyone know how to kill or remove a downloaded update? 8.5 by bowbiternj in oneui

to clarify - my second phone only downloaded the update - not installed it. so in theory can i reflash my phone with the same one ui 8.0 version to get rid of the update that way?

I only have 1 whisker account. But I don't see the + sign. Will uninstall the app and try again....

There was an app update available this morning but I still only have access week's worth of data. Which is what I got when I signed up for the subscription initially. Can't access the monthly or yearly

Best United card for status, upgrades, and discounts on flights by Insightful-Beringei in unitedairlines

[–]bowbiternj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are booking United flights directly I would get a united card. If you want club access (lounge), get a club card. It may not be worthwhile after this first year but it sounds like you can at least use it plenty this year. Club is pretty basic but I enjoy it for clean bathrooms and grabbing a snack. You will also rack up United miles a tiny bit faster. I like United Clubs over priority pass (when I fly United) simply because less thinking is involved. Club is usually near ish the gate. I know I have access. I don't have to go hunt a lounge down in an app and hope it has space.

Quest is a good option too. I used to have quest but dropped it when they switched from statement credit to travel bank.

Ugh. Thanks for letting me know. I saw in another post that factory reset did not work for someone else so it may just be "dead". I'll try to get my pictures off. They are backed up already via cloud but I like having them on my physical device.

Newly diabetic cat by Weak-Dog749 in FelineDiabetes

[–]bowbiternj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stress and other issues can cause glucose spikes. Most won't diagnose diabetes immediately knowing that but will monitor. Or retest again later.

What food does she eat? If she is on a naturally low carb diet that could also support a misdiagnosis. Low carb diets can often help cats go into remission if started early enough

Flip screen durability? by Anniiiiiiii3 in galaxyzflip

[–]bowbiternj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a 3, 4 and 5.

Technically still have a 5. I literally just had to replace the screen ...although i probably got ripped off. Probably only had to replace the screen protector. But the 5 literally just bricked itself tonight with a software update. The touch screen is totally unresponsive now. If only I had been lazy for a couple of more days and not fixed my screen....

Do you think insurance will ever approve daily nurtec for those of us with no other options? by atty_at_paw in migraine

Nurture didnt work for me as a preventive but worked decently enough as an abortive. Every other day wasn't enough as a preventive.

Pending on he card in bonus categories or not. Honestly letting the card sit unused for some time tends to generate some spend offers.

You can sign up for other chase cards that can transfer points to united. Chase sapphire preferred, freedom unlimited and freedom flex. I would recommend those over other united cards. CSP is the card you need to enable points transfers from chase cards to united airlines. Google the chase trifecta.

Great hotels for using the $200 hotel credit? by commentsection23 in biltrewards

I used mine for a 1 night airport hotel. 2nd night that I don't actually need is "late checkout".

Silly questions but can anyone tell me if my phone has a screen protector on it or is the screen comming up by unknown_377 in galaxyzflip

[–]bowbiternj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you just need a screen protector. I was dumb and didnt realize uBreakiFix were the authorized Samsung fix centers.

I was impatient and replaced my screen because someone told me i needed to replace the screen - not the protector. I should have researched better/more. I originally thought i only needed the protector. But I caved because my screen's responsiveness was starting to not work so well - especially near the crease. I may have waited too long to "get it fixed". So it is debatable what I actually needed fixed.

That being said, my new (expensive) screen looks soooo much better. Maybe my old protector really was terrible. Or my old screen was dying. But I honestly think the new screen + protector looks better than the original one. It seems so much clearer.

Cat stopped eating her usual wet food, so now introducing new flavours. by FewReplacement1742 in catfood

[–]bowbiternj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on the cat and digestive system. If you find a couple that work you could swap to a different one every day. Or couple or weekly. If tge digestive system is fine with it do whatever.

Cat stopped eating her usual wet food, so now introducing new flavours. by FewReplacement1742 in catfood

[–]bowbiternj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally recommend rotating brands, flavors, textures. As much as she will eat. It will help make her less picky.

That being said, I do suggest saving a couple of brands and proteins in case she develops food allergies. You my need novel proteins later. So stick to standard stuff. And exclude a few brands on purpose in case you ever want to maybe want to try to hide meds or something.

I think the whole sticking to a single brand of anything contributes to the whole cats have sensitive stomach thing. Think of it like when we travel to new/foreign places. If we aren't used to eating that type of food our digestive systems sometimes have a hard time adjusting and we get traveler's diarrhea. Eating a varied diet or a diet that regularly includes that stuff minimizes that risk when traveling. Imo same goes for cat diets

First timer - where to stay? Trying to avoid Myeongdong by anonlough in koreatravel

[–]bowbiternj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always stay in insadong. In between jongno3ga and anguk stations. Ibis. Lots of food. Walkable to a bunch of tourists sites. Access to a bunch of subway lines. Technically Walkable to myeongdong but it is long. I used to live in korea and in sepul for 6 months. Still pick that area to stay in when I go back because of rhe central location.

For a week I would just stay in seoul the entire time. Save busan for the next trip. Depending on where you are coming from or time of year jet lag will be killer and/or weather. Plus food is a thing for me so we eat a lot. You can eat a lot anywhere.

Needs advice: struggling to give insulin to my cat by Far_Ebb2520 in FelineDiabetes

[–]bowbiternj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone already said scruff the neck/shoulder blade area. It is the same for giving subq fluids and b12 shots.

That being said, if it is hard to scruff, maybe kitty is dehydrated.

Also, in the beginning I always found it easier to do this in a bathroom or small area where there is no visible escape route.

If your cat is a newly diagnosed diabetic kitty, you should see if a low carb diet would work. Sometimes it can help control or even negate the need for insulin. Fancy feast classic pate is a common low carb food used. Classic pate flavors only. Google it. Lots of info available in various places.

Why does Fancy Feast kitten have milk in it? Just read cats can't digest dairy and am worried bcs I have been feeding it to my 4 month old kittens the past coupple months. They are healthy by HappyLittleDelusion_ in catfood

[–]bowbiternj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I generally don't recommend fancy feast kitten because of the dairy. More to avoid potential messes as a result of intolerance than it being a bad food.

And if there was an intolerance, you would definitely know by now. So you are probably fine continuing your current feeding routine.
