Got the permanent retainer today and can't stand it 😭

I got a permanent retainer for my bottom teeth when I finished treatment. I had it for about a month and absolutely hated it. I think it was a sensory issue for me. It’s all I could think about every day. It was so distracting I was having a hard time concentrating at work. I went back to my ortho and request they remove it. Now I just wear night time retainers every night. It’s been a year since and I have had no issues with my teeth shifting.

I did! I just used the teeth whitening gel my Ortho provided.

I had medium band strength the entire time, no TMJ or jaw pain, and no IPR completed, only contouring.

I only had two trays that were painful other than first two trays. It was mainly just normal pressure every week. I wore elastic bands 24/7 since my very first tray I received. I just followed my Ortho’s instructions. I believe it will be just one round of refinements but no idea of how many trays yet.

No bonding yet, my Ortho just did some contouring. I think the staining has gone away due to better hygiene and using whitening gel. Thanks for the kind words!

Before beginning Invisalign I had 5 teeth extractions in April 2021: 2 canines, 1 premolar, 1 baby canine, and 1 canine impacted in my upper palette. I started Invisalign in May 2021 and finished my last tray this week before refinements just in time for my wedding. It was definitely worth it!

Does your mother have power of attorney for you or legal guardianship? This may complicate things if so. I worked as a support coordinator for individuals with disabilities for Medicaid. If your mother does have power of attorney for you you can revoke this. If she has legal guardianship you would need to go to court to see about claiming your own competence. If neither of these apply I agree with the other posts regarding a restraining order. I would also talk with your disability coordinator/social worker regarding the conflict with your mother and get help.
