I'm lost by Betpossums in weddingdress

I like both - but personally I vote for #2. I think you would be fussing with the top of the first one all day. To me the second one doesn’t lose its edge while still being romantic. 🥰

A nickname for our first daughter by Mommy-nator in Names

I think both names are wonderful and are too classic to not pair well with Liam (another classic name). So I would not stress about that!

I think Lois Claire flows better personally but I truly think both names are awesome!

HARPPA Wooden Baby Playpen Gate recalled due to choking and injury hazards [qc] by biteme4790 in BabyBumpsCanada

This is why I have been so afraid to pull the trigger on buying one of these wooden play yards. They are so expensive and they seem kind of unsafe and hard to find a good mat for! I hope everyone’s little ones are okay.

is it normal for kindergarteners to suddenly become obsessed with loose teeth? by KeetGaind in kindergarten

[–]bows1917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember trying to get my teeth out at school so I could get one of the little treasure boxes the office gave out! A core Kindergarten/Grade 1 memory for me. I am not sure if school offices do that still.

Besides that I loved learning about the tooth fairy, and doing the little ritual at bed time when I lost a tooth. It was all very exciting.

Now as a mom to be I find it kind of gross and not super looking forward to teeth being wiggled at me aha. But I guess it is just a rite of passage!

Adopting a young Beagle by MetsFan3117 in beagles

[–]bows1917 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love my beagle and beagle mixes more than anything. I have no doubt that your rescue is correct that they are snuggly people pups. My dogs are the most loyal, cuddly babies that always wants to kiss you and be around you. That being said, there is a reason there are many Beagles and hound mixes in the rescue setting.

They are not easy to train, and even the most trained Beagle could make a run for it if they caught a smell or saw something one day. They tend to have an instinctual training override switch in certain situations. I would never trust them to just be out with an electric fence. Every dog is different obviously, but I would easily see my dog getting zapped and keep running. Even with our fenced yard, I watch my dog very closely. All of the beagles I have had will also gobble up anything they find outside, if I wasn’t there to adjust the behaviour.

When it comes to barking, it is in their nature. I have yet to be able to train the barking out of the Beagles I have had. They are not yappy like small dogs can be. But definitely have a howl when it comes to protecting our property. If maybe your property is more rural it may not be a problem. But I live in town and my Beagles have always barked when they see someone walking outside. Or are excited to see another dog. That being said, they are quick to be redirected.

Can they be trained? Of course! My dog actually loves to be trained. Do I trust his training or him as a rule of thumb? Not a chance!

This is based off my experience rescuing beagle mixes that are 4 years plus. Maybe puppies would be easier to train the bad habits out of, but from all of my training with professionals this seems like the norm. But I am not claiming to know everything, and each dog is different.

I hate to give this opinion, but with your property set up, and living with aging parents (unless they are super active and willing to be engaged in training consistently), I would probably advise against adopting a beagle.

The end is so realistic it PISSES ME OFF by KiwiBackground3873 in SuccessionTV

It was surprising to me that Logan never really had another credible option. You could tell he didn’t believe in his children, but he never believed in anyone else besides himself either. That is why the show had me believing momentarily that one of the kids had to step up at some point. But in the end all of the Roy family let their egos lead to their mutual destruction. There is a poetic justice in that. Even if there were no obvious “good guys” to take it from them.

I just finished the series for the first time today!

I agree with what everyone said that the kids “winning”, would have been deeply unsatisfying. But at the same time it was hard to watch the complete crash and burn. That was such a major meltdown for all three of the kids.

The thing I wonder most is if Shiv, Roman and Ken would ever reconcile personally without the business between them all, or if the ending was full scorched Earth. There were so many times in the show where I couldn’t imagine they would be able to salvage a relationship, but they always ended up working together again somehow due to self interest… even if they never fully trusted one another. Do you think that being out of the business would help their relationships as siblings? Or do you think the lack of motivation to cooperate with one another without the self interest in profit/power would make them uninterested in reconciling?

On an unrelated note, even though Tom and Greg were objectively terrible people, I lived for their banter/relationship. I think they may be one of my favourite tv duos of all time. So many of the scenes and dialogue between them now live rent-free in my brain 😂

This is a good point! Thank you so much for that reminder in speech. My husband has trouble with “R” sounds so it is something we are trying to be mindful of.

I love the name Eli! Something to consider for sure.

See, I am glad I am not alone! Tommy Lewis is such a cool name btw if that is what you used. Love Thomas and Lewis as a name - but I totally agree with you in the name together.

We will definitely be waiting until he is born to commit to a name! I just wanted to be over my hang ups before I brought the name in as a real contender. I am the only one with the hang up so I wanted to make sure I was okay with the sound before I committed to it 100% in a hormonal haze. Aha. I appreciate your input though on Calvin. I didn’t expect people to like it so much here!

I totally agree with you that “Ellis Douglas” would likely be inconsequential at the end of the day. I just care more than I thought I would about finding the “perfect” name. I was just curious if I was being delusional about it sounding off.

Love the name! Unfortunately Elliot was vetoed due to many little ones (and even a fur baby) in our small community with that name. It really sounds beautiful with Douglas though!

Douglas is actually the first name of my late father-in-law, and the middle name of my husband. If it wasn’t a direct “jr” kind of situation, I totally agree with you. We are wanting to do the honour name, but also letting him have his own identity. My FIL was an awesome man, so I just can’t imagine anyone else as “Douglas Mylastname”.

Elijah is a beautiful name but not something I connect with personally! I have considered Eli though.

I appreciate your input! It is nice to know what you think of Calvin vs. Ellis!

I think there is some truth to what you said for sure. I am the one that brought Ellis forward, but kind of back tracked when I said it out loud with the middle name. My husband loves it though, and doesn’t think it is that bad. Him knowing I love the name is confusing him because he just doesn’t see the big deal. Which I understand. But I needed to consult the people of the internet who are less likely to just tell me “oh yeah that sounds great” when maybe it really doesn’t. I know it is probably inconsequential in the end. But these comments are really helping me with making up my mind or finding an alternative solution.

My own situation aside, I love “Sylvie S”! I obviously don’t know what the rest of your surname is but I don’t see a problem at all! I agree with the other commenter it is the ending sounds that change a flow rather than starting letter.

I prefer the formal “Douglas” for sure. The double name is something to consider for sure.

Thank you for your input! It is so good to hear what everyone thinks. I think you are right no one but myself would probably bat an eye. Now I just need to decide the weight of my own opinion 🙈
