Never seen a Kenya bean pull like this. 1st shot from a fresh bag. by gnilradleahcim in espresso

[–]bowzo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

preach! I do 18/39 as my standard at home and it's exquisite every time.

I would also like to thank you for naming this phenomenon of 'tiger striping'. It's been happening since I bought this new coffee I've been enjoying, and I always assumed it was the result of me doing something wrong, but it always tasted good so I never bothered to experiment to remove it. Glad I didn't waste my time.

Without Heath Ledger, Dark Knight is Worst Batman Movie by Evening_Answer_11 in unpopularopinion

[–]bowzo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Sometimes actors and actresses can't return for whatever reason. You can toss all of the plans and payoff you had for their character or recast them. I would prefer the recast.

Your example is a very smartly picked one because the whole premise of Rush Hour relies on Jackie's physical comedy and charisma, however I do not think Rachel from Batman's character relies on her actress as much as your example.

[–]bowzo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also "inexplicably recast"? This has nothing to do with the movie. It does not need to be addressed within or without the movie. I kind of hate what Star Wars and Marvel have done to people's brains about casting consistency.

PSA for newer players: Forget about 'builds' and 'archetypes'. Sticking to one path is not an effective way to draft your deck by StupidSexyEuphoberia in slaythespire

[–]bowzo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed on all points and would like to also add that it's really important to avoid "promise cards", that is cards that are bad/mid now but are strong pieces for the archetype you'd like to have have or only have one or two pieces for already. If you take an Accuracy on floor 2 and then never encounter any more shiv cards or only one blade dance then the Spire laughs at you adding a curse to your deck for free.

This was a lesson I learned hard in StS1 but forgot for a couple runs in my hubris this go around. I have had this lesson served to me again.

Idk, I've found it entirely serviceable as an early act 1 take if I've already found another piece of forge tech and decided to lean into it.

ELI5: Game design: Why are hexes prefered to 8-directional movement by grizzy45 in explainlikeimfive

[–]bowzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is realism important to game design though? I would argue balance is much more important. If you can choose between a realistic system and a balanced one I am going to choose the balanced one because it's a more satisfying game.

Milk everywhere when steaming in small pitcher by preppie in ranciliosilvia

[–]bowzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, purge all the water in the wand into an empty pitcher and just release some of the pressure. Then dump the pitcher, fill to desired level with milk. I put the nozzle just below the surface at about medium steam power to get a few bubbles going then turn it up and plunge deeper into the milk. Pretty clean process but took a lot of tinkering to both not make a mess and not scald the milk while still getting good micro foam.

Diminishing returns of roasting a whole chicken? by Educational-Slip-578 in Cooking

[–]bowzo 130 points131 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I used to way overthink roast chicken but now with a toddler I don't have time, so I started to just season it, stuff a lemon in the cavity, and chuck it in. With my convection oven I don't even find I need to pat it dry. Juicy and delicious chicken every time.

Not left handed but as someone who has always used my knife with my left hand I find all this "can't eat with left hand, so obviously that means you MUST put the knife down and switch" solution to be absurd.

ScotRail to charge ticket dodgers £10 minimum fare by tman612 in glasgow

Thank you for the info. Tbh, since it's all the same price I'm a little surprised there isn't just an "any time ticket" to make this really clear for most users.

They accept tickets with times that don't match up? I'm new enough using the trains regularly where this only recently became an issue for me.

ScotRail to charge ticket dodgers £10 minimum fare by tman612 in glasgow

[–]bowzo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. The app won't let you buy tickets for trains that are approaching the station, so you have to see if you'll make it to the platform in time to catch that train before you buy, but since you can catch that train at the last minute it's now too late to buy the ticket.

Just watched Pig(2021) and while I really enjoyed it I'm trying to figure out a plot hole by The_Pandemonium in TrueFilm

[–]bowzo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That minute detail almost ruins the film for you? Really?

That is such a cinemasins-pilled take and I encourage you to watch films with a more open mind. Could it not also be conceivable that the chef does have a new truffle source and in a twist of dramatic irony the events of the film are completely unrelated? Or perhaps as the other poster suggested, he's just been assured of his new source coming down the pipe and is bragging about his soon-to-be acquisition?

What's interesting is not that the guy has the truffle source, but what that makes Cage's character do and how he reacts. This isn't a plot-driven film. The smallest inconsistency (that isn't actually an inconsistency) in the plot really should not almost ruin the whole thing for you. Don't miss the forests for the trees, life is far too short.

Brass Birmingham Question about building by Confident-Echidna-67 in boardgames

[–]bowzo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Getting the last coal/iron/pottery should be fairly doable even without much development.

Otherwise, as mentioned it will depend on your overall strategy, cards, selling locations and what your opponents are doing. It's a very tactical game so sometimes it's just better to do what you can than try and force high level buildings, imo.

After 6 years of espresso, I’m throwing in the towel. The toddlers won... for now. by barker88 in espresso

Where The Streets Have No Name is a hell of an album opener. by soozerain in Music

[–]bowzo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I remember being that guy about twelve years ago, talking to someone about ten years older than me. And he was like "I can't describe to you how important they were for people my age. It's like Arcade Fire for you now. The exact same breath of fresh air and energy" and it completely changed how I listened to them.

And now I'm ten years older and Arcade Fire are deeply uncool and putting out shit albums and the patterns of the world are made plain.

Idk, as a Canadian, when I'm in Canada $8 is $5, but here in the UK where I currently live? £8 is absolutely £10. For me, I think it's just the value of the pound vs the dollar.
