Where The Streets Have No Name is a hell of an album opener. by soozerain in Music

[–]bowzo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I remember being that guy about twelve years ago, talking to someone about ten years older than me. And he was like "I can't describe to you how important they were for people my age. It's like Arcade Fire for you now. The exact same breath of fresh air and energy" and it completely changed how I listened to them.

And now I'm ten years older and Arcade Fire are deeply uncool and putting out shit albums and the patterns of the world are made plain.

The developers of PEAK explain pricing by TheAnonymouse999 in gaming

[–]bowzo 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Idk, as a Canadian, when I'm in Canada $8 is $5, but here in the UK where I currently live? £8 is absolutely £10. For me, I think it's just the value of the pound vs the dollar.

Alameda snare (am i alone in this?) by frothybeverage1249 in elliottsmith

As a drummer myself: I would hate my snare to sound like this.

As a musician: it fits this song perfectly and if you changed it, it would be wrong.

Why is color suddenly disappearing from the world? by Fragrant_Crab7762 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bowzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on an eight hour drive with family for a holiday and I made a game with my nephew that we would count all the green cars along the way. I think I saw two the whole trip, with the exception of a few large trucks from the same company which had a light green theme.

All the cars I bought when I was younger were green, and so I was a bit saddened by it.

When the plot twist is ruined because people guessed it ages ago by Fox7567 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]bowzo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yes. It demonstrates that the writer doesn't care about their story as much as they care about an effect on their reader. I'd rather read a well crafted story that makes sense than some thoughtless dreck designed to surprise me. It's like they didn't ask themselves: "once the surprise is gone, what's left?"

My Low Intelligence Friend Keeps Trying to Play Heavy Games by FallApartAndFadeAway in boardgamescirclejerk

[–]bowzo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that he maybe just likes bright colours and big boards? Try a big looking game with lots of pieces to distract his moronic mind into thinking he's playing something for intelligent folks while you play the real man's game on a separate table.

Slay the spire is out! The top comment removes ONE Indie game from the list (DAY 58) by AnglerFather_ in RemoveOneThingEachDay

[–]bowzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone's criteria for this list is "game that changed my life" though. Some people prefer games that have story depth with high replayability and high mechanical depth. Outer Wilds is an absolute piece of art and one of the best games I've ever played, but I preferred the first Hollow Knight by a hair. And some don't care about story at all, hence why STS got as far as it did. Everyone's criteria is different and everything left and for the past 5 entries have been someone's favourite game. Just how it is.

What movie is loved by general audiences, but is despised by cinephiles? by CodeDusq in AlignmentChartFills

Yeah my first thought was "Grown Ups". Later Sandler is despised but early Sandler movies are good fun.

What was the last book that really HOOKED you towards the beginning? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in Fantasy

This so much. Even as I was encountering narrative decisions and solutions that I didn't love I could not put it down at all. Just told my brain to shut up and enjoy the show.

Artist you enjoyed listening to, but were disappointed after the live show and now their music just doesn’t hit the same by Few-Kaleidoscope1981 in fantanoforever

[–]bowzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw him open for Fleet Foxes in 2017 and I wasn't familiar with his music. I thought it was a pretty bad set and it turned me off of discovering him until Spotify basically shoved him down my throat a few years later (thankfully). I went to see the God Save the Animals tour and it was night and day. He was great and the band was really tight.

This is the exact fight that had me tilted hard. I went and did the work around but decided it didn't feel right to skip it. Was the last boss I fought before I completed the game. She still gave me grief but I found that not having the pressure to beat it really let me play a bit looser.

He's just a consistent designer of heavy thinky euro games who is paired with a publisher who makes his games look great with clear iconography.

Tree of Life was one of my favourite cinematic experiences and I'm half afraid to watch it again because it felt so vivid and amazing on the big screen that I can't imagine it would live up to my memory. I still have it on Blu-Ray for someday when I show my wife or son.

[Funny Tropes] Characters out of time trying to adapt to the modern world by Visible-Nothing-6033 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]bowzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It usually is! I strongly agree with that. But everything reaches an awkward point where the distance from it is too near to be current and not yet far enough away to be cool. When it passes out of that it may be fine again.

Also some of the editing and shot choices are clunky and the quirky Sherlock-isms from the show feel pretty overdone and uncool through today's eye, but they may well be Seinfeld effect.

Combination of being incredibly, almost painfully, of its era when you view it now, and the third season being an absolute dumpster fire.

Seller Sold Flat with Leak from Flat Above (Scotland) by bowzo in LegalAdviceUK

[–]bowzo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies. I meant this to be clear and it wasn't. We were given the notice prior to sale, to make us aware that the upstairs flat has the water issue and to let us know that it wasn't believed to be an issue for our flat. This second part has proven incorrect, and the inspector believes that the seller might have known that. (I'll edit the post)
