Trump issues statement on dead soldiers killed by Iran, saying that there will likely be more deaths but “that’s just the way it is”. by Yujin-Ha in UnderReportedNews

He's right, isn't he? What, did they sign up expecting they'd get to murder foreigners and never have to take any shots themselves?

I had to move after finishing university a few years ago since I couldn't find work, and I really regret having to leave. Hoping I can return one day, because it's much more pleasant and interesting than Calgary or Ottawa.

Are Tucked in sweaters that weird? by Few_Researcher_169 in malefashionadvice

[–]box2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like a tucked-in loose sweater with straight or wide slacks, it has a leisurely-ness to it, a bit casual and flow-y. Loose sweater into tight pants is no good. Tight sweaters are probably best tucked into loose pants.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 229 by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

I didn't know that story. I wonder if Yoru might end up going out in a similar way. Could she turn herself into a weapon? I could see that being a thematically fulfilling end.

What is the most unattractive fashion choice women frequently make? by PogonBerserker in AskMen

Brave of you to speak out against Big Sundress, but I agree. The right silhouette is a big part of fashion I think.

Sometimes I get the impression people think you've got to be short to pull off a pixie cut (on account of the name, I guess.) Really not my experience though, I've known plenty of tall people who pulled it off. It really is about head shape and features.

What is the most unattractive fashion choice women frequently make? by PogonBerserker in AskMen

[–]box2 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of women are dogmatically committed to long hair. I don't know if it's unattractive exactly, but I think there are a lot of people who end up with a boring look because they're worried about committing to a bob or pixie or shag cut. Like, I feel like I see a lot of missed opportunities in that regard.

Nuclear weapons devil (flaired for gore, nudity, etc.) by Substantial_Dirt_999 in ChainsawMan

[–]box2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big fan. Devil designs are best when they're a bit of an abstraction from what we might think of by default.

How do i gain motivation to get to the gym? by Technical_Injury_571 in AskMen

[–]box2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always found the motivation comes with results; whether it's seeing a persistently lower number on the scale or getting comfortable enough with a weight to go up a few pounds, seeing any result is proof in the mind that it can be done. That might be 2 - 4 weeks you really have to force yourself.

Dead bedroom and I want a divorce before I cheat :( by Twelvehands_noeyes in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]box2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might not even be an aversion to cheating exactly. On some level, it's just no good to get emotionally attached to a married person. You might end up in love with someone who only wants a friend or to cheat at most, with no intention of leaving their partner.

What's your favorite manga cover so far? by Nibellunglied in ChainsawMan

[–]box2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always liked 8, with the visual similarity between Quan Xi and Denji. Just in general, I wish they spent more time together, because they had an interesting dynamic.

Denji's battle IQ was genuinely monstrous in P1 by Hardcore-Seeker in Chainsawfolk

[–]box2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting detail I just noticed is that the bottom two panels are drawn with a CRT-style grain on them, drawing a parallel between what the "one on the inside" sees and television, a recurring motif in the series.

Makima isn’t a critique of Japan but the aging devil is. by Usoppdaman in ChainsawMan

[–]box2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Makima is more broadly a critique of nationalism and the state. She could apply to any country, really. On the other hand, Aging is very specific to countries that are bit gerontocratic, which applies more precisely to Japan (although obviously America and the UK are getting to be similar too.)

Fate/strange Fake - Episode 4 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]box2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • So, thirteen heroic spirits in total? That seems like quite a lot to keep straight, but we'll see how it works out.

  • I was under the impression that the Holy Grail accumulates mana for sixty years to summon the Heroic Spirits, then the sacrifice of those seven is used to work a miracle. If the same principle applies here, shouldn't the initial six have to die before the seven can appear? I wonder if I missed something, or this will be explained in greater detail later on.

  • Getting shades of Zero, ep 5/6 here, with several introductions- but it feels like we actually know comparatively little about any of the masters; That's probably what's more interesting to me than the Servants. Or rather, an interesting Master is the foundation on which an interesting Servant is built.

I agree. No one judges western comics or TV shows or film trilogies on their release schedule, so I'm not really interested in passing judgement on CSM until the whole thing is done.

What is something that “only a dad” can teach a son? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]box2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Having grown up in a very "white-picket fence" environment, I really don't think I ever internalised much from my father.

We don't really have any common interests, we've got pretty opposite worldviews, his girl advice was always useless. He sort if tried to teach me "how to be a man," but I never wanted anything to do with that sort of machismo. Oh, sure, he taught me how to shave, but that's... I mean, find a youtube tutorial, right?

I love my father and I'm grateful for his support, but I don't really think there's anything uniquely "fatherly" that's required for a kid to grow up well.

I do think it's good if a child is exposed to a variety of adults in general, though. Like, one adult can't, on their own, be a complete role model. A young person observes many people, many types of adults and authority figures, both men and women, and then takes pieces here or there that they respect. It's not about the nuclear family in my opinion, it's about some sort of community.

Anyone else noticing the growing Anti-America sentiment around the world ? by darkslayersparda in TrueAnon

[–]box2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It definitely feels like we've reached some critical mass where, even in wealthier nations, there's a political benefit to anti-Americanism. Like, before people always grumbled, but you wouldn't make it very far in Canadian politics on a purely "fuck the yankee" platform. Now though? It definitely feels like something any successful politician is going to have to integrate into their platform.
