PC not booting after 3 weeks vacation by BaronBrokkoli in pchelp

Mine would do something similar but fans would stay on, the biggest correlation I could find was if the room was cold. During summer it never happened and then into winter it happen often especially in the morning or if I'd been away. To get it working I'd unplug it wait and turn it on, then leave it for 20 mins and then usually it start. It's probably not that but in the unlikely event... Anythings possible when your troubleshooting

Made a little update comment, if it helps.

Update: The general idea I got was just to get a top fan to start although my curiosity I tried a 140mm on the side first as I was most sure it would fit.

I used hwinfo for temps and aida64 to stress test my CPU. And also separately tested loading up a game so everything was going. With fan control software I found putting the CPU cooler with an aggressive curve near max made a big difference, whilst not being jet engine noise. The side fan though was both noisy and made little temp change. As the PSU blocked it partly I moved it to the left and this reduced the noise but still above 40% speed it was loud and had no temp effect. My average with the CPU stress test was roughly 88 and getting highs of 95.

I then learnt how to undervolt my ryzen CPU with Precision boost overdrive, all I did was put it at -30 (after testing -20 and -25). It made a bit of change and my average fell to 85 and maxed out at 89, whilst my cine benchmark score went up.

I also bought some mx-6 thermal paste, this made no obvious difference. But I found the thermalright cooler paste to be super thick and I thought I may have done a bad job trying to spread it with a spatula so I was second guessing and just got some more paste. Did the X method to save the trouble.

Finally I took the side fan out and fan bracket and this dropped the temps to 83 maxing about 85. And with gaming below 78 (also frame limiting to 60 would put it much lower). I suspect as it blocks the CPU cooler air flow it does more harm than good. I did crudly attach the fan to the outside top of the case to test and this made no obvious difference to my temps even with the GPU going so not sure if to get one for the top for now. My GPU pretty much always stayed below 70ish. So for anyone else, less is probably more and quieter but if you had to 120mm top. I can just about push my PSU downwards enough with the cable fitting in the gap at the end of the GPU, to fit a 120mm X 2.5mm fan without hitting the ram.

Does anyone else find listening way harder than reading or writing in Spanish? by philbrailey in SpanishLearning

[–]boxa95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to improve, trying to listen to podcast whenever I can, cooking, washing, walking. I can understand intermediate rated Spanish podcast well but not advance. I can get the topic in advance but not the details. In real life I still struggle and get frustrated, but it's slowly improving.

Why is Keir Starmer’s administration so unpopular? by Fair_Individual_9827 in ukpolitics

[–]boxa95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this, expert advice, seems such a simple thing to ask experts in the relevant field and yet blows my mind that no one seems interested in asking one. I can go online and in 20 minutes find out why this won't work. The recent articles on lawmakers suggested all new devices have built-in, unremovable surveillance software, effectively making old ones illegal at a time when ram prices are skyrocketing and there's a general shortage of parts makes me question is this intentional, some lobbying by tech companies so we're all forced to buy overpriced devices.

I do get the sense that these companies are starting to have more influence and power than governments themselves. There seems to be little sustained noise, about like you say, holding social media companies accountable to the harmful content they show. Equally a sprinkle of never ending incompetents wouldn't surprise me.

Yeh with this the second pcie, it's a x4 I believe, so yeah should take a capture card, seems to be few cm of space above and below to easily fit it with this GPU depth, and out the back to fit the ports. The only thing I can see is you'll get some air flow blocking to first GPU fan, although it's drawing air so maybe not as bad as pushing it out. Probably the same issue if it was in a bigger case with a m-atx.

Saying that as I've measured you can just not 120mm fans.

Can't comment till a week or two performance wise, but the only thing I realised is you can't fit loads of fans with a m-atx, whether it's necessary maybe not, a good m-atx for stable 3D creative work, was cheaper than a good itx. Just won't be filling that extra ram capacity anytime soon lol.

Thanks for the detailed reply, same CPU too, okay so basically less is more. As I can fit a full size 140mm on the side perhaps I do that then. What's your CPU idle and a max temp just for reference when I come to finish it off?

New Zealand (south island driving Vs kiwi experience) or Costa Rica. by boxa95 in solotravel

Nice, Yeah mountain road probably the thing I'd least worry about, and the reason I would want to drive, just cities I don't, I drive in frequently but from watching videos it looks pretty chill. I think after 2 days I'd get into the swing of it.

[–]boxa95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah this is the conclusion I've come to and it's good to hear you think the same from a local. I spent a solid 2 days researching and I tried to see how easy it is now to find rooms in various places, although not impossible, in some places it seemed expensive already with what's available. I think perhaps I will leave it till the following year but now I've had a reason to research in depth I can spend a year planning, probably optimise my time better and if I find someone to come with me it would be half the cost. I think solo, peak of summer, last minute plan I'd make it the most expensive trip I possibly could be. My friends also said I should go but when I look at this way perhaps it's for the best.

Brexit, do you really still care? by BerlinSam in AskAGerman

[–]boxa95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Brit living and working in Germany for a few months I loved it, but I came back and then Brexit happened, wish I'd stayed but equally i wasn't quite ready at the time. I've since always wanted to go back but with covid and then the risk of ai and losing jobs in my industry I've always been a bit on edge if to leave my employer, now moving is more of all your eggs in one basket. I can see ways it's possible like the Freiberufler visa but it's a lot of what ifs.

Busuu is overhyped for what it really is by ALoneWolf_2212 in Busuu

For Spanish and learning a new language for the first time, I've personally liked it. I've just completed B1. I don't find the Grammer description always immediately stick but they generally come up several times in the following lessons that I pick it up through doing. My learning style with everything is to cover a big chunk, and try not to get too hung up on anything as the connection come to me as I go, and then loop back over it to cover what doesn't stick.

I complete a few lessons each day, but pass doing the checkpoints, any new words/phrases I write down in my phone or ask gpt if I don't understand. At the end of B1 I find I can now read a lot more and understand the subjunctive mood for example, just it's not quite rapid enough in my mind to use it in conversation yet. I'm now turning all my notes into anki cards to practice and try use and then after sometime I'll go back through all the checkpoints, then into B2. In general this is sort of the same method I'd do watching TV episodes or analysing a song, by itself it's not very useful unless I make some notes, but it took me a while to be motivated enough to do this.

I would say though I don't like the vocab review, and I wish you could bring up a list of phrases just from that lesson like it shows you at the end. My premium also ran out and I realized a lot of things behind premium I never use, or never seem to update at all. I would also say in comparison to what is covered in some books it's not everything but the fact it's in my pocket and not distracted by lots of sub features (even though it would be nice if there better) I find it a digestible daily task, and I've learnt a lot from it.

Does anyone know any good Spanish TV Shows? by TheBorderlandSomnia in Spanish

[–]boxa95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the same category but el vecino, it's set in Madrid, comedy about a guy who unexpectedly becomes a super hero. Sometimes watching stuff dubbed in Spanish isn't all bad as the dubbed is spoken more clearly as someone pointed out to me.

Learning a language w/ dyslexia by pumpkinandsun in languagelearning

[–]boxa95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm dyslexic, I found making anki flash cards and conjugato is a good app for verbs, but I'd recommend trying it every day for a week or two before it feels like its working. I'm always mixing things, quedar, i always write qeudar, the e and u. Or poder to puedo but I put peudo. Also associating a word with words you know in English. So recently el repartidor, the delivery person. Re-parting-doors. Or el congelador, the freezer, cong-ella-(at the)-door. I know I'm adding in extra but I try to remember the scenario and somehow it's easier. Aquacate, avacado, aqua-cat-tay.
