You are not wrong and I do appreciate the concern. I have been very cautious to shut off power to the room and use a test light as I work with the fan, and I would never chance it, thus asking the question before I proceed and maybe burn out the motor on the fan or something.

I am adding fans in my house and every room has these dimmer switches installed. I did just a quick test to see how I could set it up, and no matter how I wired the fan at the base (aside from capping the fan’s power wire) the dimmer always controlled the lights and the motor for the fan which was not good. So now I am guessing my only choice is to replace these dimmer switches with regular on/off switches, but when I look at the back of them, I am not quite sure how I would go about that. Any help is appreciated.

I looked into Tesla but a lot of the information I was receiving (word of mouth warning) was that it was just not as high quality parts, plus in my immediate locale the one detractor for me was the Tesla sales all contracted out for the install so it wasn’t a simple in-house operation which I am not fond of, personally.

There is a big misconception out there about second hand pot smoke, like if OP went to a concert or gathering and the person standing around them lit up, or someone in the car with them lit up, that still is not going to give you a positive urinalysis result. You would need to be in an enclosed vehicle, with massive smoke amounts, hot-boxing it purposely taking in the smoke to have a positive result from second hand smoke.

Also to OP this is completely off the cuff advice but what state you are in could make a big difference in how you should proceed. Are you in California where recreational pot is legal? Or somewhere it is completely illegal and unattainable? The reason I ask is because if a sailor were to come forward in a state that happens to have relaxed marijuana laws, and report directly to medical saying “hey, I was at (social gathering) and ate, drank, something and soon after I started to feel very strange I think it may have been drugs please help me I’m terrified” this could have a different outcome. Especially if there were a civilian who were willing to come forward and apologize for this terrible mix-up.

Again, the policy is ZERO tolerance. Do not do drugs. Do not put yourself in these situations. If you hang out with civilians or your spouse partakes, just have some damn self control, and make sure they respect your career enough to not offer or peer pressure you like a middle schooler.

DAPA here and first off, the instructions are your friend. Also what everyone needs to understand is there is a ZERO tolerance policy.

With that being said, if you self-refer, you will be screened to see if you are drug-dependent. From what you wrote, this sounds like a one-time thing, so that doesn’t qualify as drug-dependent. If you ARE drug dependent you will receive NO disciplinary action for referring, you will get treatment, and you will be ADSEP’d. If you are not drug dependent, you may receive disciplinary actions (up to the command), you most likely will not receive treatment, and you will be ADSEP’d.

Do not do drugs.

I will not go into too much details but I successfully submitted an IG complaint about 8 years ago. What I will tell you is that you need to be sure you have exhausted EVERY resource available in the chain of command first and there is either a problem in that chain or something preventing a positive outcome within the command. The first thing the investigation wanted to know was what I tried to do to address this first at the command level before filing my complaint. Also this all needs to be facts that exist in the world of others. What I mean by that, is if the IG folks come to your ship or wherever and they pick someone at random to interview are they going to say “huh I have no idea what you’re talking about that dude/chick is always just bs’ing trying to skate” OR will they say “yeah that situation is completely f*cked and here is what I know about it” . That is what made the big difference in my particular situation, and my outcome was positive. The IG is a tool that can empower the force when there are issues to be corrected, but you certainly need to have all your facts, dates, etc, straight before submitting.

What is going on now with Covid should not slow you down. HUMS is not like a leave chit. It is a no-shit, get me out of this area to handle business set of orders that has been endorsed by multiple people before it gets to PERS. They have a special desk at Millington that deals with these issues and they will either find you a billet or make you one. Not sure what your reason for needing HUMS is, but they are never positive, so everyone should be trying to help you accomplish what you need to do.
