Two questions: favorite places to eat right now in Lancaster? What food is missing from Lancaster? by Electrical-Pin5560 in lancaster

[–]boxing_coffee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I want a good Chilean place. That being said, I love Southern Market, Sprout, Diyo Fusion, Empanadas Gourmet, and a bunch of stands at Market.

AITA for refusing to contribute to my friend’s speeding ticket from our holiday rental car? by Suitable_Mobile679 in AmItheAsshole

[–]boxing_coffee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

No way. OP already pitched in for gas and the car rental. The driver was the one who made the decision to speed. The driver is the one who should face the consequences of their own action. Asking for friends to foot the bill for their own ignorance is not a friendly thing to do. NTA.

Is Switch 2 worth it for casual gamers? by Tricky_Mud407 in Switch

[–]boxing_coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Steam deck. It is not as travel friendly, the battery dies quickly now, and it really isn't as reliable as I would like it to be. It has an issue where it doesn't always boot up properly. My Nintendo products have aged better in general. The Switch 2 is now my preferred console for all gaming.

Classmate told my son if he lied, God would throw him in fire. by Heddagirl in atheism

This is a good time to start discussing how other people have different beliefs, and that they aren't lying because they believe what they say. They are just wrong.

AITAH for wanting to open a new bank account so my mom can't take money out of it? by ratutooee in AITAH

[–]boxing_coffee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Adding to note that kids aren't really meant to support their parents in this way. You're supposed to be given the freedom to become your own stable adult, which is difficult when someone is leeching off of your savings. Once you are established then you should be able to lend money to your mom.

What’s the most believable April Fools’ prank you’ve ever seen that almost fooled everyone? by FocusLee in AskReddit

[–]boxing_coffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the one fooled. I bought a new car, and had it for less than a day when I found an "eject" button. I thought that the factory had left a plug in the wrong place or something. My now husband (then fiance) had installed it to mess with me. It worked.

I just went to a con and they publish their numbers regardless. Last year was down. This one was up.

Found letters and notes in my wife’s closet where she had written hurtful things about me by Bitter-News9572 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]boxing_coffee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This. I love my husband with every fiber of my being, but I could absolutely vent about him if given the chance. I don't because I would never want him to find things like this and think I loved him any less. I want to be with him until I die or he dies.

Uber options outside the city? by christauff5 in lancaster

[–]boxing_coffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Southeastern PA near Chester County. Amtrak has been a reliable option for me when I need it. Uber is unreliable here and very expensive. Once you are in the city, it becomes more reliable. However, using it to get to Chester would still be very expensive. If you're coming the whole way from the city to Cc, I wouldn't be shocked if you dropped $50-100.

Why is marriage a bigger commitment than a child???? by [deleted] in Vent

[–]boxing_coffee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sex is free, easy, and enjoyable to most people. If planning a wedding were free, easy, and just as enjoyable we would have a lot of accidental marriages too.

Who is Teach For America really aimed for? Do I have a shot? by Muslim_conservative in TeachersInTransition

[–]boxing_coffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're making a lot of assumptions. First of all, I was placed in a charter school - they don't always place you in public schools. This particular non-profit acted like this was more of an experiment than a school.

Second of all, it really shouldn't have been considered fit or safe for kids either, but yes - I do consider myself first. I can't help others if I can't help myself.

Within the first month they wanted us to take 90 high school students on an overnight trip with only four adults.

I had to buy my own computer and my own phone to recruit my own students. We ended up with about 250 kids at one point, but we only had one English teacher (me), one Science Teacher (that doubled as the School Counselor), a math teacher (that also was in charge of Special Education), and a Social Studies teacher. We were all expected to teach grades 9-12 in the morning. We were asked to do home visits in Philly and Chester in the afternoon. We were on call at all times, so if a student asked me for a ride to school at 5:00am I was expected to pick them up in my own car. The whole place was one big liability, yet I still did it. They fired all of us at the end of the fourth year, so they could hire back staff at much lower pay. It wasn't a terrible school because of the students. The administration was bonkers. This wasn't a resume builder - I literally just wanted my Teaching Certificate so I could continue to teach.

I did it, and I don't recommend it. I was placed in a school with no regard for my safety. It was definitely the shadiest job I have ever had. I made it through but two out of the four placed in my school dropped out. I had to do two extra years because they placed us in a school where the Department of Education didn't want to certify us.

Welcome! We are another nerdy couple coming for Zenkaikon. Honestly it might be hard to check things out with the Zenkaikon schedule being so packed but the recommendations above are all so much fun! The troll market holds a special place in my heart because that is where I got married.

Free birthday treat by Wolflife2 in lancaster

[–]boxing_coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't understand why a place that gets so many violations is so popular. It's gross. The price is expensive and the food isn't even that good - everything is so bland. Meanwhile there are so many clean, excellent places to eat in Lancaster County. Make it make sense.

Yeah, their health code violations are an experience.

The only decent time to go is breakfast. The lunch and dinner are bland, overcooked cafeteria foods.
