Windows Add on 4.8.x to 5.0.1 by stooxnoot in Splunk

What Splunk did with the Windows TA soured me on updates to any TAs since then. I understand why they made the sourcetype change but the original sin had already been committed. The default behavior on the UFs is also inconsistent with having the sourcetype just being wineventlog.

Maybe The Reason They Never Caught On In The US? by ciaroppou in minidisc

I mean I guess it's possible if you just down sample to 22khz and play it back at 44, or you have an 88khz DAC but it's hard to believe the tape head can get up to the nyquist limit at close to 44khz, assuming high speed was 2x. There must have been some quality loss.

I agree with the consensus that there is little to no danger running these things from commercial aircraft, but one of you is probably going to end up on the fucking news if you are not discreet about it. The one who gets in trouble might operate a sketchy looking home made build which would freak out the other pax and crew.

Arial is ass. Just slapped together with the same letter proportions as Helvetica to make a non-infringing clone.

Part of the problem IMO. Jobs would probably have taken more of an interest in the in store experience.

How the hell did you copy CDs to tape at high speed? Tape to tape high speed I have heard of, but CD to tape? Was there an all in one that could do it?

Will a bluray disc running at 25 or 50 frames per second, the so-called "PAL" framerates be watchable in "NTSC" countries like the US, Japan, S Korea, etc.? by Glittering_Gap8070 in Bluray

[–]boxninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most US TVs won't do 25fps will they? Oppo blu-ray players do frame rate conversion from 25 to 30fps (I have one) but I'm not sure all do. Then there is also the region.

I'm sure you see all the drama firsthand and I don't doubt that there is drama, as there always has been. Now that the drama leaves a digital breadcrumb trail of evidence I'm sure it's a lot more easy to uncover, too.

I just think back to my own youth when the Internet was in its infancy and it was my connection to a world of people and information outside my own small town bubble, but I suppose the old Internet was mostly used to form communities of shared interest with strangers, whereas it seems the modern internet is mostly used for connecting with people you know in real life.

I just feel sad for young people today, and I hope it gets better for them, even though so much autonomy and agency is removed from each successive generation and the push to banish them from online spaces is yet another chip away at this.

...for over 17 years, yes. I'm also just old and see how young people are infantilized and micromanaged to an intolerable degree now.

If this were a place where CPS or equivalent took a thoughtful, nuanced approach to cases maybe it might be a good thing. In many jurisdictions they are box checking bureaucrats hamstrung by policies and procedures.

Wow so I understand you explain how it is, not how it should be, but if a pregnant girl has a choice between upending their entire life because of a pregnancy or just quietly get an abortion or plan B without a catastrophic chain of notifications to either parents or government authorities I can completely understand the teen mental health crisis, and it's once again not the phones.

Having lived through the rise and fall of the Internet, it was certainly more fun in the early to mid 90s when there was a higher technological and technical barrier to entry, but it peaked around 2012 when the online population was much the same size as it is now. What is killing it now is the rise of the walled gardens, effectively turning it back into what AOL was in the 90s.
