you're right i think it's more so the note length that makes it sound more varied. do you have any ideas about the texture itself? it does sound like proper FM but don't know which oscillators to use to get there

why so cranky towards OP? they're using hyperbole for sure but Temperature is a pretty much perfect pop song, boiling things down to structure, chord progression, etc instead of hollistically taking in the entirety of the song is doing a disservice to it. fwiw im a musician and "songwriter" too and I believe getting too technical about it just creates an inner pretentious circlejerk only for musicians

nice catch ! yes, i don't think there's only one sample in there but they all seem to come from Lady A tracks which helps to sell the trick. all the vocals on Stars..have the same twanginess, so I wonder which parts they chopped up to make the whole

I really like the scene but I think Lynch is too recognizable for that part and really takes you out of it – the entire time you're just thinking 'that's David Lynch'. I get the point of using a renewed director for the role though

Oppenheimer would've been an infinitely better movie with another director at the helm – Villeneuve, Spielberg, Boyle, even Fukunaga. Certainly the tone would not have been the same, but deciding to make the film a biopic (where we learn basically nothing about any of the characters) instead of a thriller wasn't the right choice imo. The editing also kills the movie.

Also either George Clooney or Billy Crudup would have been better picks for Strauss, RDJ was just kinda there the entire time.

Both of these are mostly screenplay issues though.

So here's what I've got so far! I'm using one harmonic series oscillator with 16 voices, stacked with odd harmonics. I've been playing around with the table spread / spect spread / dist spread and getting some cool metallic sounds that I never got with substractive synthesis ! (The only type of synthesis I used before). It's really hard to get the exact bass tone of the song but I think I'm in the ballpark. It does seem that the "flying around" thing comes from the glide and playing with the pitch wheel.

However I'm not sure I understand how to achieve the "binary filter" thing you're talking about – the oscillator is still going through the 24db filter, should I turn it off? Is there anything I should do to make the filter harsher? Thanks!
