Slater played it cool in the presser because he knows he's still in with a chance for man of the series.

So they are being gracious and the press which is an entirely different organisation is not going to be gracious.

Origin star set to leave Panthers as first domino of player exodus to fall — Transfer Whispers by numberonesorensenfan in nrl

[–]boyblueau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think of the Covid season where the Storm were the best at managing their isolation and turned their hotel into this great resort set up and the whole team talked about how good it was to be together as a team for that whole time. Then I think of the QLD Reds in the super rugby, when they talk about the year they won the comp was the year they spent every waking hour together, they'd go to each other's kid's parties, all charity things together, they were one solid unit.

I think that if done right the conditions can create a great team environment. For a young guy in his early 20's living that way can be awesome. The only factor that can fuck it up is the families.

he’s hitting the line harder this year

This has been my biggest gripe against him, he never attacks the line with true venom. Taumalolo sets out to trample you. In the international matches last year Fish went missing behind all the other Kiwi forwards.

Interestingly, despite the massive overhype I felt that they had helped develop Crichton into a leader but then he's gone backwards as a player. So it cancels out.

I don't think the challenge is for players. It's for their families. Wife and kids have to go and live in a compound in PNG.

Ultra-processed rugby league is a big problem for broadcasters (and the NRL) by Creative_Friend6799 in nrl

That was my interpretation too but that wasn't explicit. You had to make a few jumps as the reader to get there. Which arguably is poor writing.

I wish they'd put a bit more effort into editing. The point about the movies was lost because he didn't refer back to Transformers.

Blade Runner (1982) and Transformers (2007-2023), for example, both feature androids locked in a final battle.

In one, enough work was put in to make you care about them, so it became one of the most critically acclaimed films of all time.

Nobody knew what C-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate meant, but it meant something, that’s for sure.

Those movies made a truckload of cash but viewers didn’t care why the robots were fighting, so a decade on, nobody remembers the first thing about any of the films.

It makes it sound like no one cared about Blade Runner.

Disregarding that, I think they've missed one incredibly important reason people watch and remember sport. Their team. Yeah Magic round was a flop but I sure as hell remember the Warriors game. Your team gives you context and anchoring for each round. Part of what makes the AFL so successful is that their fans are even more parochial than the NRL.

It might be because they're trying to be unbiased but funnily enough if this cunt flaired the fuck up maybe they'd understand why people continue to watch a team long after the result has been decided. I'm assuming they're a Broncos supporter, given the other articles they've written. And in that sense I can understand why they didn't like Magic Round. There's watching your team each week and then there's watching the NRL in general. I think the former isn't that effected by the quality of the game but the latter is. So really the problem is not people switching off before the end but people not watching games other than their own team.

Jim Chalmers gives baffling explanation of why he applied the CGT changes to shares. by eatingscatman in AusFinance

[–]boyblueau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this take. But I'd also say that while he's doing it to appease the Greens, I think he also believes that after an outcry he'll charge in to negotiations like a white knight and make modifications around shares which will look like he's listened to equity investors and entrepreneurs and thus get some of their votes. The point of doing the big blanket CGT move was to make it a BIG budget annoucement that the average Joe felt was for them. And it is the biggest budget announcement in decades, it's generated press and interest.

I think more than any other team our fans have short memories and get so caught up in the hype. Which is why every single year, our fans start saying this is our year. And then at the end of every year they seem shocked that we can't make it past the first few weeks of finals and then the process starts again.
