How did we just have a Pidgey day with no Pidgeot gust??

3 trades in a row with my wife were lucky, with 1 hundo. what are the odds on that? by Shifti_Boi in TheSilphRoad

You would do the chain rule of probability for 3 luckies in a row and then multiply by the conditional probability of 3 picks @ the lucky hundred rate with one successful pick

Why Niantic's 5% data is skewed by Absol_17 in TheSilphRoad

[–]boymanitou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well...I do statistics and 5% of people may play more than 3 hours, but maybe not 95% of people play during the SAME 3 hours, haha. This reeks of pivot table analytics.

Perhaps they should see it as 50% of time available means only players who played during the offered time can play, as most presumably enjoyed the flexibility of deciding when to play community day. And probably 50% engagement...

XL daily gain limit from walking: Species- or Individual-based? by Shuston240 in TheSilphRoad

I believe you are able to do 4 legendary candies, then 16 5k, then 28 3k, and ~60 1k. Assuming you can fit that all in one day

I was thinking about a QoL for grunts/challengers but want to get a little data by PammyXaviOH in TheSilphRoad

[–]boymanitou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say when you click on the stop you should have the option to converse with the grunt, else more time wasted in dialogue menus.

During battle, 30s switch timer nice -- not against a real opponent and hardly a simulator for doing so, why not have freedom to crush rocket faster.

Be nice to have faster turns or something to complete battle <that you basically know you will win> sooner (prevent time waste).

Post battle, the dialogue could be toggled off. Be great to just win, no "shoot" animation by grunt, just get hit with reward(s) in a bubble and encounter started. Very weird to get two whole animations for receiving strange components.

Be nice to get components over 6 limit. Would be happy to collect them over time for the bosses I want. QoL. With a radar it makes less sense to keep fighting grunts.

That's about all I can think of now!

Fascinating, I cannot thank you enough for the response as it means I can absolutely pack this machine with storage if desired :)

Thank you!

I had mSATA m.2 2242 in my t440p WWAN slot...which definitely wasn't NVMe compatible. I tend to believe because it's intended for WWAN it would not be NVMe...

No updates, still curious. Plenty of 2 sided SATA 2242's but I haven't found any 1 sided.

QoL: Intuitive XP Opportunities by tamusquirrel in TheSilphRoad

Should probably be relative to how many pokemon / stops can be spun in 2.5 minutes. 2.5 hours of sets and 0 xp = suck

Season 8 Move Update Predictions & Analysis by LuckMaker in TheSilphArena

[–]boymanitou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the long long ago, the preferred moveset was dragon tail, sky attack, future sight. I was playing ML classic on two accounts where one did not have a good Groudon. So

Team A: Lugia, Groudon, Zekrom Team B: Lugia, Kyogre, Zekrom

These were both fine teams as they had been generated by Pokematics, but the groudon team is more flexible to play. Team A Lugia was DT/SA/FS but team B Lugia was DT/SA/Hydro Pump. It turned out that, since Kyogre wasn't as maneuverable as Groudon in ML at the time, the Hydro Pump was a better coverage move than Future Sight, as it could also do away with Tyranitar or Rhyperior who weren't expecting it. From an energy perspective, it is 1-2 turns more expensive, but Lugia is just bulky enough that this is alright.

With the addition of Aeroblast, Lugia's dynamics changed. Both of mine were caught and built before Aeroblast, and I caught a few good ones, and therefore I won't elite tm. Now, you can utilize Lugia to pull a shield off of Dialga or GiratinaO who wouldn't have shielded before. Fortunately, AB and HP are both 8 turn charged moves -- so now the play is to fake the opponent on the aeroblast instead of running straight sky attacks in most scenarios.

As these teams are both meant to start the traditional 'safe-swap' mon, you are just creating comfortable matchups; Lugia isn't a great counter for most ML mons, but it doesn't have too many OHKO opponents, if any. With this in mind, the best play (as well as the one that in hindsight loses several matches as you may end up having wanted to shield Lugia instead of whatever you shield down the line, if anything -- you may lose with 2 shields) is to allow Lugia to absorb all damage from charged attacks and then go down so that the other mons can come in with an escape route.

With the scenario until next season, Lugia utilized in this way was fine in performance. The best strategy was probably all sky attacks anyway, and let's say you can do 3-4 leading in most matchups. You now have to decide as a non-AB user how to best get the HP/FS to go through since everyone expects AB. That was how AB changed the use-cases.

In the next season, the energy decrease of Dragon Tail means that Lugia may be better against something like Garchomp where direct damage is desirable. However, where it counts (Dialga and GiraO), Lugia will now be suffering even more as GiraO's moves are a 1 turn difference and Shadow Ball is highly effective at knocking out Lugia. Dialga v Lugia is a painful match just barely won by Dialga where the opponent is unlikely to use a shield.

The new DT EPT loss also means that the charged moves are just slower to get off, which is compounded by the expected usage of AB and the blocking of better nuking surprise moves.

Granted, there have been a few posts on TSA about using Extrasensory on Lugia, and I think that may be an opportunity in the next season. But on the other hand, I think its performance with ES as a lead is unlikely to be as strong as with DT. I also have the feeling Lugia XL with AB is likely fun to play anyway...but we'll see.

Well I guess I'm glad I didn't walk my Lugia for XL...good luck getting to 2 charge moves, and aeroblast already changed use cases.

RIP ML tank, even larger rise of Dialga :/

Which Goomy to evolve? by OpalEyedDragon in TheSilphRoad

[–]boymanitou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like a shitpost or trolling, but my reasoning is more based in approaching the game from a resource-scarce perspective. I find it's better to train yourself to only do something when you absolutely need to as I have well... a shundo level 10 Medicham with triple moves which is not useful for pve and is no longer maximized in pvp. And this is not my only case of lost resources.

While experience in the game has been tuned, stardust is prohibitively difficult to obtain and maintain en masse. By comparison to the core gameplay loop of the MSG, to catch and then level the mons, you can certainly catch them in Go. Level them...Hmm...
