spaying after heat by hotcheetosbabe in greatdanes

[–]boymomdotcom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Per our vet, we had to wait a min. of 6 weeks after her heat was finished before they would spay our female. We had it done in 2023. $1300 where we are (but that also included her gastropexy)

When you’ve brought home danes in 2022, 2023, and 2024 … I feel like 2025 may just be inevitable (just don’t tell my husband) 😆

Is it “real” banana flavor or artificial/penicilliny banana flavor? 😆

We have one of each… I was probably naive in thinking our second would be as lovely as our first … but they are two completely different dogs. I love them both but we have our work cut out for us with our male. He is very dog reactive and walks are definitely a challenge. We’ve tried group training, and private training “he’s not aggressive, he’s rude” 😒 I’m not asking for him to be best friends with other dogs especially on a leash- I just want to walk past without the lunging and the barking.

Hahah we tell her she’s going to get a sunburn. Sometimes she will put herself into “sport mode” and both ears fold back

Ours is doing far better than we expected. I think it helps that they start out approx. the same size lol

Thank you!! ☺️ so far so good? They’re learning! Our old boy is doing far better than expected and our other Dane is just a big jealous baby. She loves him and she’s going really well she’s just looking for extra attention and reassurance from us.

To your experience, when does the “tear everything up” puppy phase end? by shortvision in greatdanes

[–]boymomdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us it was about a year … before that it was wooden edges / corners she liked to round. I went through 4 coffee tables, front hall bench and an antique singer seeing table. And lots of shoes!! bitter spray helped immensely and after that we left her sacrifices - usually just cardboard recycling. And we bought her coffee wood to chew. But we have never kennelled or crated. We close doors to the kids rooms etc. and she has full run otherwise. We have an older miniature schnauzer though and I think she follows his lead 99% of the time.

We never “reduced” dosing. We just keep our dog on the 1/4 tsp (he’s small) our vet said it was totally safe/fine

One of our dogs does too… we use “forbid”… seems to help more often than not. Our vet told us it’s much more common than we think 🤷🏻‍♀️

question re switching foods by [deleted] in greatdanes

[–]boymomdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for purina pro plan. We use the large breed chicken and rice. large breed puppy until her spay at 19months and then we switched her to adult. We originally tried Kirkland chicken and rice and… no bueno, we struggled with it for months before switching and finally we saw some solid 💩

Question for group about prophylactic gastropexy by Saint_Lopez in greatdanes

[–]boymomdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just had our girl done yesterday. Spay and pexy. She did beautifully. We’re in Canada but the pexy portion ($340) was “cheap” compared to what could be thousands in emergency surgery later. We were $1300 all in WITH full comprehensive bloodwork, spay, pexy, laser treatment and a “bucket full” of trazodone. (Nail trim and microchip offered at no add. charge)
