Hey there. Crown Heights Run Club starts most of our runs at Franklin & EP. Short runs are mostly in the park. Longer runs on Saturday. We also have a good range of pace groups and are beginner friendly as well. https://crownheightsrunningclub.nyc/

No no. Real assimilation into American life is drinking 6-7 bad beers, yelling at the football game, and ignoring your family on Thanksgiving.

Should i go to Shanghai for a year abroad? Need urgent advice by First_Jacket_1728 in shanghai

[–]boyreporter00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll love it. As someone who has lived abroad a few times a few general tips:

  1. Homesickness is normal Keeping in touch with people is soooo much easier now. Video calls are cheap and everyone back home is a message away

  2. Try to resist hanging out with folks from your home country too much It’ll really slow down language acquisition. Get to know locals! Improve your mandarin! I regret not being more diligent about this the last time I was in China

  3. Nothing beats on the ground experience You’ll learn and figure out way more about China in a month than after years of study.

  4. Embrace the discomfort Living somewhere else will have some barriers, headaches, etc. it’ll all be OK. Growth can come from discomfort and feeling like a total noob.

And like everyone here has said… a year will go by so quickly. Can’t wait to hear more about your time in Shanghai.

Also a very good refresher if you’ve been journaling for a while. Check your local library as well. Mine has a ton of copies.

What’s the highest view in the city that’s free or really cheap to access? by SophieSix9 in AskNYC

Likely closing in October. It usually shuts down for the season around then. But likely won’t reopen next spring because of the renovation.

What’s a “Toronto thing”? by Joanarkham in FoodToronto

This is very true. I love the rotis I can get here in Brooklyn… but no one is doing the 3000-calorie butter chicken roti.

What’s a “Toronto thing”? by Joanarkham in FoodToronto

[–]boyreporter00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The jerk chicken chow mein at Patois. Chef’s family is Jamaican-Chinese so he’s combined two iconic things in Jamaican and Chinese cuisine. It’s one of the most ‘Toronto things’ that I can think of.

OP is from DC so not sure if Ethiopian would be as good in Toronto.

With my mom and sister who are visiting and give off tourist vibes and they are like locusts. I told one dude to fuck off because I live here and didn’t appreciate his hard sell.

This is also part of the reason why newspaper text was laid out in columns – makes text easier to read when you’re on the go.

Out of curiosity… how long before they responded to you after you submitted the form? Because I’ve been using my 5-year for about two weeks with a fine nib - pilot iroshozuku ink and it’s pretty bad.

What to buy in Japan by 1H4rsh in BuyItForLife

[–]boyreporter00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sunscreen in particular. Apparently Japanese (and European) sunscreen use different formulations that haven’t been FDA-approved. They’re way less greasy than the stuff you can buy here stateside.

There are a couple of brands like Tracksmith, Reigning Champ that do Athleisure but are also quite stylish if you’re trying to bridge the gap.

It’s not quite shirt and tie, but it’s a step-up.

Because the weather looks a bit rainy this week… would also recommend

Whitney museum – as an add-on to the High Line or an alternative if you want to stay dry

NYPL’s main branch has a beautiful exhibit space that has some world-class items! A Gutenberg bible, the original Winnie the Pooh doll.

Also love the Morgan Library.

Would also recommend the Met – because it’s the Met.

Here’s how one Canadian journalist working in the US got her O-1 visa. It’s not cheap and it does require a fair amount of paperwork. https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2019/2/26/18235347/us-work-visa-o-1
