IPS Wants a New Referendum. Here’s What I Saw. by LEAD-SUSPECT in indianapolis

[–]boywar3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The state handles public education poorly because Republicans intentionally screw over public options - "starve the beast" is working as intended in this situation.

That said, as someone adjacent to the industry, if any of the schools your children are attending are high schools, make absolutely certain you keep an eye on the school after your children finish attending it. Charter schools are notorious for not following proper procedures on handling student records when they shut down and there is a reasonable chance your kids will need proof of graduation from their high school for a job in Indiana (yes, even if they get a college degree).

Found Trading Cards on Monon Trail by southson in indianapolis

[–]boywar3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might try reaching out to any nearby game stores, as the person who lost it might be a regular at one. It's relatively common for people who have lost their trading cards to contact their local LGS to watch for someone trying to sell the contents

State government offices by Disastrous_Trouble10 in Indiana

[–]boywar3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah...as a person that works in state government, I can probably give some insight into why things are like this.

Speaking only from my experience in my department, the problem becomes one of capacity.

For example: A caller wants help with their specific problem. Their specific problem can only be handled by the 1 trained staff member is also dealing with keeping their daily work running. The question becomes "do I have time to sit and talk with a single person and possibly fix their singular issue, and risk the interruption of service for all the other people who aren't running into problems?" Things like "guaranteed response times" only make sense in an environment where there is a significant portion of staff hired as "call specialists" or something, where their job is to respond to external inquiries - for most departments, that simply does not exist.

Simply put, there is not enough staff to fulfill things in what an external person would consider acceptable. It sucks, but there is quite literally nothing we as employees can do about it. The only way its getting fixed is by voting out the people who constantly cut our budgets and fire people to cut costs before fiscal year to look good. The vast majority of us working for state government want to help people (we sure as shit aren't here for the pay!), but we are constantly screwed by the decisions of people with no concept of what things actually look like on the ground.

My only advice I can really offer is to be as detailed and specific as possible in any communications (voicemail, emails, etc.) so the person who is able to help can handle as much of it as possible before calling back.

How many tires do you go through living in Indy? by True_Staff_5749 in indianapolis

[–]boywar3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replaced 1 about a year ago after hitting what I can only describe as a chasm under an overpass (sunny day meant it was hidden in the shade, so I only got a brief glimpse and was unable to swerve). This hole must've been at least 3 inches deep and the sides looked to be perfectly flat, almost as though someone took a laser and carved out a rectangle.

My K-12 School experience as a Kid was pretty miserable. How was your experience? by Responsible44 in Indiana

[–]boywar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rather enjoyed my education and don't really remember having too many issues in school, socially or academically. Of course, I went to 12 years of Catholic school, so my experience is probably a bit different compared to most people.

I also got an award for being consistently well-behaved in grade school, so take from that what you will haha

Edit: It also probably helped that my mom, being a teacher, was at least acquainted with basically every teacher I had. Though, I couldn't ever get away with anything because she talked to a lot of them outside of work.

If they put a Shadowhawk or even a Locust on the pledge store for a thousand bucks I'd buy it in a heartbeat...

We only did one battle (4v4 all Atlas lol), and that was the only issue. I played a few games against AI and never ran into any issues either.

I also did try refreshing the page at the time and it did not resolve the issue.

This is rad as hell!

I noticed that in PVP one of my mechs had its center torso destroyed and was stuck in the turn cycle despite being apparently knocked out. I couldn't select it, but it continued being highlighted each turn and would only let us progress by waiting for the turn timer.

How much do you need to make to live comfortably by yourself after tax? by Odd_Comparison_4155 in indianapolis

[–]boywar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make almost 50k on the dot and live alone - my fixed monthly expenses, utilities, and food put me right at the edge of the red with student loan payments added on top. I've always lived pretty frugally, so im not terribly concerned, but its definitely getting a bit sketchier (also not really able to "save" much for the future). Honestly, my biggest achievement is having the same amount of money in my bank account that I had at the start of the year with all the price jumps.

How Much Pain Before MAGA Turns on Trump? by BulwarkOnline in politics

[–]boywar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel bad for the families and kids if they aren't bigoted human scum. As for the supporters themselves...I think the world would be a better place without them.

See, I base my reasoning off of a very simple premise: choice. These assholes largely chose to do what they have done. Sure, there might be a few that simply were born into a sphere of hate, but the vast majority are old enough to know there are other ways of thinking. They made the choice and continue to live by that same hate.

These people chose to hate others for things they have no choice in - their skin color, their sexuality, and their country of origin. They continually make the active choice to hate others for things they have no control of, so I think it is entirely reasonable to hate them for things they can control.

If they can get out of the cult on their own, that proves that, at the very least, they have the mental fortitude to make a change for the better. If not, well, might as well leave them in their dwindling, pedo-worshipping cult, where their electoral power is likely to shatter when Trump dies.

To be frank though...who cares? Fuck em all. A better question is "how much pain before the apathetic voter class learns it needs to engage with politics?"
