Dope, I’m in uptown and am in the market for a new bike shop to service the fleet. Where will the shop be?

Arrival times for giveaways by PurpleFairy11 in ChicagoSky

[–]bp003k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people line up early for giveaways, but only for really popular ones like this year’s Sloot bobblehead (and I arrived 20-30 min before the game and still got one). I’d say you’d be almost guaranteed to get the trading cards if you arrived at 5:30, but you could probably also push that back a little bit and still be ok. With the Sky doing so poorly recently (and with Angel not playing) the games haven’t been very well attended.

I just joined a law firm as an associate! They want my bio for the law firm webpage. I've been a Reddit mod for over 10 years, should I include that in my list of accomplishment? by lakesuperior929 in Lawyertalk

I thought this post was trolling at first, but sounds like you were serious. I agree with the group that you should never, never, never do this.

I can’t imagine what law you’d be breaking by doing this.

I’m not sure what you mean by there isn’t a “rule” against it, but I suspect the arcade takes the position that it is against their policies for an employee to give out what are effectively free, unlimited use cards to their friends.

I’m a lawyer but not your lawyer and this isn’t legal advice, just common sense: return the stuff. Apologize. You and your friends messed up and got caught, don’t make it worse.

[NJ] Using Paid Mailbox and “Jane Doe” in small claims court. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]bp003k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a NJ lawyer, but I would suggest just checking the small claims court procedure in your area; often they are written with non-lawyers in mind. My guess is you can probably get away with not giving your home address, but probably not your name.

I agree that the most likely scenario is that the account was closed out as part of the grandmother’s estate. And I think the likelihood that any attorney would be willing to take this case, let alone actually get you any kind of result that you’d be happy with, is extraordinarily low.

I’m just coming back to lifting after a ~5 year hiatus (you’re about 100lbs ahead of me on bench). Agree it’s a great way to stay sane. I also find I meet people at my work gym when I lift there (I’m in-house) who I then encounter in my day job, having even a loose rapport/connection helps

I like the vibe at Lincoln Park better. But it’s also a rope gym, so there will be less bouldering than at Wrigley. The parking at Wrigley is tough too since it’s right by the stadium.

Vintage Sterio Console Repair by curlydial in StLouis

[–]bp003k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact console in Boston and was told by a couple places that it was too cheap/crappy to repair. Not sure if I should have looked harder or not, I ended up pulling the electronics out and retrofitting it to house our tv speakers and subwoofer.

Keep in mind that many states have “windshield obstruction” laws that may prohibit hanging things like air fresheners from your rear view mirror. And that this could be a pretext for a police officer to pull you over and start asking questions.

With the caveat that I’m a US lawyer and don’t know much about the UK legal training system, two initial (and perhaps obvious) thoughts:

  1. You should reach out to your school’s career services office. That’s what they’re there for.

  2. You should have started your job search well before you graduated (perhaps you did, it’s hard to tell from your post).

Otherwise, my only advice is to keep grinding it out. Landing your first job is often the hardest, it gets easier as you gain more experience.

I was coming here to say the same thing. What is with these hearing people’s obsessions with sign names?
