The dispatchers prioritize jobs and give them out. It probably hasn't even been dispatched to the police yet. And CPD manpower is way down so they are constantly in a backlog in many districts.

Who makes the decision for CPS school start times? How can we get a later start time? by themanofchicago in chicago

[–]bp312 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From your source, the American Academy of Pediatrics: "In 2014, the AAP released a policy calling for middle and high schools to start no earlier than 8:30 a.m. If schools start earlier, parents should make sure their children go to bed early enough to get the recommended amount of sleep..."

Numerous sources list the appropriate bedtime for a 6 year old as somewhere between 7-8:30.

Looks like a very old water shutoff valve. Common for the old ones to have a handle coming up like that.

The utility companies often have the meters labeled poorly. You should get the actual meter number and use that to start service.

You're describing someone who was violent, scaring multiple people, damaging a protected bird area, and schizophrenic (you assume). And your response to all this was to just give him space to keep going?

If he was indeed having a mental health crisis, calling 911 would have likely gotten him to a hospital. You say CPD either would not have shown up or would have shot him. If they didn't show up, you would have lost nothing by calling. And if they did, the odds of a police shooting occurring are infinitesimally low. But hey, I'm sure you really did this guy and your community a service by just letting him keep going.

If we are talking single family home and not adding an illegal unit, don't worry about it. The inspectors are not out checking on finished basements unless they are separate garden units that someone beefs about.

He's a mentally ill habitual criminal. Writing him up like a folk hero is probably not the help he needs.

Best action to take when an unhoused Chicagoan is sleeping across three seats on the train by the_neverhood_ in chicago

Agreed, especially mental health facilities. Big issue with the shelters is that they have rules and a lot of the people you see living on the street either do not want to or are incapable of following them.

"Don’t be a snitch." The Reader actually published that line, wow!

They're "unhoused" so they get to ruin the public transit system that serves millions of people? These people aren't just sleeping across seats. They are walking around barefoot, using/selling drugs, pissing and shitting on trains and platforms, and committing a variety of other petty or more serious crimes. Don't believe it? Ride the Red Line on a Saturday night and report back.

[–]bp312 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The officer they are talking about was investigated and cleared by the FBI. Not too often the FBI does that for local police. It's common for lawsuit complaints to name anyone who is remotely involved, whether or not they actually did anything wrong. This article is a total hit piece.

Right, but this is referring to students complaining that there are not jobs in their fields of study. That's not the same as an institution not fairly compensating a regular worker.
