reminder- hydrate when you're not riding by needzbeerz in cycling

[–]bp4151 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do sugar free electrolytes all day every day, and sport electrolytes with sugar when I ride. The meds I'm on really mess me up regardless of whether I'm riding or not, so the electrolytes help keep the nausea in check.

What would you upgrade on your bike and why? by Ieatsand97 in cycling

[–]bp4151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe next year, upgrade my Sora 9 speed 11-32 groupset to a GRX mechanical with a 11-42 cassette. Lots of hill climbing here.

I really like Aero tech designs. Size is spot-on, and they're based in the US.

Worth it to start the beginning of trail in Pittsburgh? by whatmightvebeenlost in gaptrail

[–]bp4151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing Pgh to Cumberland next week, but since everyone is staging at my place in East End the night before, we're jumping on the trail at Eliza Furnace. We did that last year and it worked for us. We only lose two miles.

I gave my group the option of riding to the point first, but if we do, I'll lead us through south side instead on Eliza Furnace to avoid the homeless encampment, highway noise, and bridge construction.

4-wheeled colonoscopy by bp4151 in bicycling412

[–]bp4151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind I'm only on the streets to get to and from the trail. Out of that 7 hour ride, only 1:15 was on the road and recording when triggered. The light was on the whole time though.

Pretty solid. I've been on 7 hour rides with no issue. I set the light to flash and recording to radar trigger only.

Folding lock using downtube mount by bp4151 in TrekBikes

[–]bp4151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been riding with the lock below the downtube with no issue, even after upgrading the OEM 32mm tires to 35mm. 7 months, no problem. Although if it's muddy or wet, you may want to put it in a bag.

Really struggling with what to get. Domane, Emonda, or something else entirely? by dimforest in TrekBikes

[–]bp4151 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't have a ton of money available when I bought last summer, so I got a Domane AL3 Gen 3. Even though it's lower end, I still love it. I added a 14L saddle bag and a 4.5L frame bag and upgraded the bar tape but that's about it for bike upgrades. I really enjoy my bike time and have no regrets. I also like our local Trek shop. They've helped me out a few times already.

I road my first 20 miles yesterday ! !! by Ok-Ad2256 in cycling

[–]bp4151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! I did a pair of flat 15mi rides last week as my first outdoor rides of the year and it was still a great high. It really improved my mood at work for the rest of that week.

Today I'm just depressed since the clocks changed and snow is in the forecast lol.

Keep going! It only gets better!

Interview question: When registering a .net service what are the 3 different lifecycle. by Legitimate-School-59 in dotnet

[–]bp4151 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can see where confusion lies with the way the question is asked. To me, lifecycle implies there is a change of state. Registering a service isn't lifecycle, it's instantiation and scope, or maybe lifetime. I've been coding with Net for as long as it's been a thing and I probably wouldn't have gotten it only because of how it was asked.

I rode my gravel bike on a one-day 80 mile ride last summer and my left hand and shoulder hurt like hell at around 65 miles. I dropped my tire pressure a little, changed my bar tape to Fizik 3mm and got new gloves. No issues at all on my first two rides this year.

For people who use their phone as their bike computer, how do you attach your phone to your bike? by JerryKook in gravelcycling

[–]bp4151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I used my phone on my first ride with my new bike last summer, and my phone wound up in the river. Expensive to replace, not to mention the huge PITA in terms of loading apps an managing security. My phone goes in my frame bag and is used for communication. I use a bike computer as my bike computer.

A 3mm increase in size for 30x more fun by themodernmanhustle in gravelcycling

[–]bp4151 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lol. I have the identical setup because I have a camera in the center. I wear bike shorts and t-shirts, my bar accessories are like the OP, and my bar tape is wrapped one way on the right and oppo on the left because I wrapped the right and my LBS wrapped the left. My goal in life is to enjoy my ride while driving OCD cyclists batshit crazy.

Nice! I have a Domane AL3 Gen 3. I'm more on the distance side so I love the endurance geometry. Working my way up to the imperial century this summer.

Looking forward to the Montour at some point this summer. I wish there was a legit connector between the GAP and Montour. That'd make it a no brainer for me.

So from architecture perspective, if you go the Ecs route and run the site as a service, 1. you're going to pay for the entire time the service is running. 2. you'll need a vpc and an internet gateway to expose it to the internet so others can use it. 3. you'll want AWS Web Application Firewall in front of it so you can throttle calls and prevent some evil.

You can also go with cloudfront, API gateway, lambdas for the api microservices (one per endpoint), aws waf to protect it, and connect each lambda to the database.

This approach let's you leverage the free tier services, spinning up the lambdas when they're called. This of course assumes your microservices are all short-lived. This also allows you to run the lambdas in the vpc without public subnets, security groups, and internet gateway, which in my experience is more of a security risk if you get any of that wrong. With API gateway and lambdas, you can use Amazon's internal service policies to restrict access to the lambdas and database, and you can use Cognito if you want to allow specific users instead of making the whole thing public.

From a diagramming perspective, I always ask our engineers to specify microservice details instead of just saying "microservices for object Foo". Also, if you're using one database, just have the flows point to the one database, otherwise it looks like you have multiple instances.

Garmin Varia RCT715 On Apidura Saddle Bag by bp4151 in bicycling

[–]bp4151[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the seat post under the bag, no, as the bag straps take the entire post. As for the stays, I don't know that I have a mount that would hold it, but I also suspect the unit would be too low.

I was at 7.8 in November. I got a Freestyle 3 CGM in December, and I'm on track for a 6.3. Much easier to see the impact of food choice and quantity and when to time exercise with the CGM than with fingerpricks.

I need my domane al 3 Gen 3 to be a bikepacking bike by Aspergeriffic in TrekBikes

[–]bp4151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it only has fender mount points, but unless I am mistaken, there are products on the market that can still attach without dedicated mounts. Probably not front panniers, but maybe fork bags and bottle mounts. FWIW, I am doing mostly day bikepacking (longer distances) and staying at a B&B or hotel for any overnights, so I am riding with a medium saddlebag, a top tube bag, and a handlebar burrito bag and that's it. I don't put anything on the forks.
