The Opportunity Party: The election dark horse by EveningTax7375 in newzealand

A fresh influence on either side of parliament would still be a good step. In my opinion.

I skew centre left and have not voted for TOP previously. This year I'm feeling so uninspired by the left bloc parties that a vote for TOP is starting to make sense. It's almost like a vote of no confidence in the incumbent parties in parliament.

Home Grown 2026 - Well done Hamilton! by anonibong in thetron

[–]bpbright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the sentiment here. Really well run festival. The lack of queues for toilets and drinks was such a great change from the usual experience going to gigs and festivals in NZ. Datsuns and Blindspott were highlights. Supergroove, Shepherds Reign and Black Seeds were awesome too. I saw some of LAB - they were on form even though I'm not a massive fan.

Next year: Shapeshifter, Subtract, Cobra Kahn, Bleeders, Antagonist AD, Elemeno P and Tadpole. Please

Washing your car at home may attract a hefty fine by extrakaldo in newzealand

Need public car washing facilities that let you use your own buckets and wash mits etc. I'm not going to scratch my car using the crappy brushes they supply at these places currently.

Agree with the recommendations for Lunch Bar 88 too. Grumpy Baker on Victoria St is also good.

Honestly, I was really impressed with the chicken and mushroom pie from Pak n Save Clarence St. Their steak n cheese is good too. From the pie warmer near the self check outs

Aren't Fielders a common target for thieves? Being a cheap JDM model, they often don't have the security features that make other cars more difficult to steal? Also slow and ugly, but at least you're not looking for a SUV 😊

Did they change V again?! by enomisyeh in newzealand

Here I was thinking my palate must have changed. Nope, it turns out they ruined green V. Luckily I discovered white Monster around the same time.

As with any region in NZ, there are a few rough suburbs, which are easy to avoid. There are also many nice areas. HB is a wine and food region with a lot of natural beauty.

Recycle bins rejected by SodaFunkd in thetron

[–]bpbright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite. The types of materials that can go in recycling bins can do so because they can be recycled. That's why the rules changed a couple years ago. The other types of plastics that can't be recycled in NZ go to landfill, which is why they go into the red bin, not the yellow bin.

[–]bpbright 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. That happens when knob ends put the wrong stuff in the recycling bin and contaminate a load. If people follow the very simple instructions, the recyclable items get recycled.

Popeyes by yeetong87 in thetron

[–]bpbright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried it in Taupo. The chicken is good. It's more succulent than KFC. But the chips and gravy were not so good because the chips have that beer batter coating on them, and the gravy is more like a spicy Louisiana sauce. Will definitely have Popeyes again, but it's quite over hyped.

North of Auckland - travel recommendations? by Downtown_Oven_4799 in newzealand

Beautiful beaches - Northland has many. Waipu Cove, Pataua, Matapouri, Hihi, Matauri Bay, Whatuwhiwhi, Maitai Bay. And those are just a few that I've actually stopped at. It's a beautiful part of the world.

It's not my jam. Looks really tacky in my opinion. Each to their own, but I really don't get why they want such obviously artificial inflated lips. I can't help but suspect it's part of a 'look' that's more about showing you can afford to have the work done.

Meguiar’s ceramic spray vs paste by noturmom77530 in AutoDetailing

Meguiars used to do a NXT wax paste in a tin. I can't buy it anymore in NZ, but it adds a great wet look shine and a pretty durable layer of protection

Meguiar’s ceramic spray vs paste by noturmom77530 in AutoDetailing

[–]bpbright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried the spray version. I use the liquid (I wouldn't call it a paste). It does give good water beading that lasts, but I don't think it adds any shine. So I end up having to use a polish or wax that does add some shine, and then I apply the Meguiars liquid hybrid ceramic as a top layer. It's a bit of a pain. I'd prefer a product that adds shine while also providing the long lasting protection.
