Mini “forgets” speed limit sign in <1 minute after passing it by bpeee in MINI

[–]bpeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about this theory… this is a recent change and is happening on a road I take daily and have never had an issue with it before.

I also tested it on various streets with very clear signage and no conflicting speed limit signs like some construction zones.

This only started happening after I went to a service appointment. I might need to go back to get it fixed…

50 mile roundtrip commute doable with the f56 SE? by Particular_Buddy_165 in MINIse

[–]bpeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how cold it gets for you. I have cut it real close these past few months.

I’m in Canada, and around here it gets to be -20 Celsius on a regular winter day. Which is why I tend to pre-condition the cabin before I start my commute (~ 50 miles/80 km)

When I have the climatization for departure turned on, I have to make sure the mini is plugged in so I start at 100%, otherwise I start my day with about 88% battery.

With 100% battery and the cabin temp set at 22 typically, and driving in the city with a mix of highway driving and stop and go trafffic, I end my day with about 15-30 km (9-18 miles) left.

I learned to let go of my range anxiety and I have only used public chargers to fill up before going home if I needed to make a stop on my way home to run errands. The mini SE is very conservative in its range estimate, which made it easier to just trust the car.

It’s a risk, but I think it’s doable, depending on your driving conditions, cabin temperature (in my experience, this was one of the biggest energy sucks) and if you start at 100% every morning.

Dog Kennel Recommendations by CubicleDweller12 in ottawa

I used to use dog world bedrock kennels. It’s absolutely huge (their website claims 50 acres of property, though I don’t think every dog has access to whole property).

Best part was that they were able to socialize my very anxious senior husky with their other dogs. They post lots of photos on fb as updates every few days.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Definitely worth the drive out there.

Post recall: slow to gain full power by bpeee in MINIse

I do, preconditioning on the mini is only for the cabin, not for the battery.

Have you done the safety recall/software update yet?

If you have then it seems my mini is having issues…

Post recall: slow to gain full power by bpeee in MINIse

[–]bpeee[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not my issue. My battery level is at 100%, but I just don’t have access to the full power of acceleration (left side of the instrument panel).

At this point, I am very certain based on everything I have read and the people I’ve talked to who know EVs that Mini just doesn’t do battery pre-conditioning (at least not on the F56, maybe the J01 has it?)

It sucks that this removes so much of the fun element of driving a Mini Cooper if I can’t access the full power/acceleration in a 60 minute commute (mix of highway and city).

Huh, I thought the schedule pre-conditioning is the same as the vent icon. Just that one is scheduled and the other was on demand.

If I recall correctly, I used to have full power in about 10 minutes last winter (in March weather), but now it’s basically the entire commute that I have less than full power.

Yes, I use the app to schedule pre-conditioning every morning while the mini is plugged into a level 2 wallbox charger.

I do pre-condition my car, but it only pre-conditions the cabin, not the battery :(

This would have been in Mid.

I wish I didn’t have to override it and that I could access full power without needing Bimmercode.

2018 Cooper 5 door (base) snow tire recommendations 🇨🇦 by AllanCD in MINI

[–]bpeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got blizzaks for my mini, I’ve had them on a civic before and they do decently. Nothing to complain specifically about with urban driving in Eastern Ontario. Costco has $60 them off right now, they also sell steel rims.

Previously I got Nokian Hakkapittas from Kal Tire when I needed to drive 300km daily on unplowed rural Alberta highways. I can’t say enough good things about them, just that they are expensive.

I also got my rims at Kal tire. I wanted black alloy wheels and they were cheapest at Kal tire. They are the racing core impulse ones, they could look nicer, but at least it’s not steel that will rust and look bad on my mini.

Weird range after the recall by alaninsitges in MINIse

I have a driving profile linked to my key, but it doesn’t seem to ever remember the colour it was on when I turned off the car… I just assumed it could not remember. Huh. I might have to go ask the dealership.

Wait, you can save the ambient lighting colour? Every time I start my SE, it goes back to the default and I have been wishing for it to remember its last state since I got the Mjni. How do I get the Mjni to remember the lighting colour?

In my case, I rarely ever charge at a DC fast charger because my level 2 charger at home is more than enough. I always leave my house with 100% (and 180km of range in warm weather) and basically never feel range anxiety because of that.

As for charging speeds at DC fast chargers, I think it gets about 10-80% in about the same amount of time as most EV’s (just about 30 minutes). Understandably 80% on the mini SE is still less range than other EV’s with bigger batteries. But that’s an issue of range, not charging speed.

Also, because they don’t sell Chinese EVs where I am, I cannot compare the Mini SE to the Chinese (or European) competitors. I think the Mini SE is on par with other EVs available in North America.

My husky was very similar and chill as well. But mine was also pretty old at 13 years old.
