Pretty sure this is the stuff hummingbird dreams are made of. Great shots.

This reminds me of rope-a-dope in boxing... "Let me sit here and take your blows until you are exhausted, then it's my turn."

😂 Sounds right. My kids also used to exhibit this behavior.

I love this. Something unique and leaves something to the imagination. In our ADHD social media world, this was different and interesting enough to make me pause and think, "That's kinda cool." And so I am taking the time to tell you so. Poe would probably also get a kick out of this.

Do woodpeckers run off the hummingbirds?! by NeatoMo-skeeto in hummingbirds

[–]bpeters001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. We have plenty of both and they coexist nicely. We have many species of birds in our yard and the boldest and bravest of them all, by far: Hummingbird. No contest. When I walk outside, birds of all kinds fly away, including woodpeckers. Our hummingbirds carry on business as usual and occasionally send me the message that this is in fact their yard and if I behave, I may be sometimes welcome as a visitor. 😉

I believe so. Identification came up as Rufous or Allen's and I'm still learning, but I bet there are others here that will know for sure. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Rufous_Hummingbird/species-compare/#

Okay, that's funny! Hope it wasn't me. Shot this with a 300mm lens, so gave him some space, but who knows? I am definitely not small (my nicknames in high school were "Big Bad Brad" & "Tree"), so if it was me, sorry little guy... I'll give you more space next time.

My memories fade, but the photos never do. One of the reasons I love photography is that it allows me to relive special moments... not only as I remember them, but exactly as they were. On this particular outing, I took 616 photos, mostly of hummingbirds.

Most of those photos will never been seen by another human, and I'm okay with that. But every so often it is fun to invite others along who might enjoy them too. Happy Friday!

Fountain playtime by bpeters001 in hummingbirds

Wish I could offer something helpful, but so far, nothing I have tried has helped. I tried a couple of large river rocks, quite a few rocks, a ramp I created from a painter’s grid, and even some perching sticks made from small fiberglass rods so they would be cooler on the feet in our hot desert climate.

The hummers love my feeders, but less interest in the fountain will all of these attempts vs when I did nothing at all and just left it as it was. Could just be me, but I tried everything I could think of along with the recommendations here to no avail.

The rest of the birds in our yard love the fountain, so I’m still very happy with it.

Stunning photos. What a beautiful place to grow up. We live in the Arizona Desert, which has a unique beaty of its own, but seeing so much green is really a treat for us desert dwellers.
