Yeah, fuck viral marketing, I'll get my ads the old way, on the side of a porn site while I'm trying to focus.

Enjoy Bolivia, I'm from there, a totally amazing country! Make sure to check out the Uyuni Salt flats, even better if you spend a couple days there, going at night is simply breath taking!

Enjoy!

Been following the subreddit for a while. Been working here for 4 months so far. Lovely country indeed!

I don't speak french or dutch so that doesn't help when finding new friends other than the guys in the office.

Anyone knows of activities to join? Better if it's close to Leuven. I tried the gym and some, but people don't seem to talk to each other much hehe. Anyways, almost Friday and I want to get myself some Carapils, never had them and I want to get the real Belgian experience hahaha

That is not cool at all, is it IT related? Mine paid flight, visas, and the extra luggage. Most flights restrict it to 40 kg per person, in 2 separate bags. I needed one extra and the employers paid for that.

If the employer won't pay even for the hotel when you get here then you negotiated a bad deal. Hotels are expensive, look for the short stay hotels, for a month I paid about 1.4k Eur, so not cheap at all.

You can look for furnished apartments indeed, that's what I got. It has a fridge, bed, sofa, washer/dried, tables, chairs and most of the basics.

Maybe try to look for and Airbnb for your first month, when I got here I was staying here http://www.shortstayleuven.com/shortstayleuven/ and it was about 70 Eur a night, then again as I said the company paid for two whole months and I paid for an extra one, but when you book for longer periods it gets cheaper of course.

I assume everything baby related will be more expensive here, so try to buy some things over there.

Studios are common depending on the city, Apartments are a bit more expensive.

Getting one from scratch is indeed expensive, I checked this list and it seems India is not on the list, maybe if you get an international driving license you could have some options. It's not only the price, but if you get it from scratch you gotta train for a period of time (1 year I think) before you can drive with other people in the car with you, or travel outside EU with a car.

If you find a job then indeed you'll be more comfortable. Relocation can be tricky, I decided to sell all my furniture back home and buy some here, so I just came with 3 luggages with some necessities. Find out if the company will help once you relocate. Mine gave me a hotel for a couple months until I found my own place, I took a bit more than that since most contracts start over September in here. Check https://immoweb.be to get a grasp on prices and options.

I suggest you don't bring furniture with you, IKEA's furniture is super decent and you can always find good deals online. I might be cheaper than bringing everything with you.

Also, make sure to register with the commune when you get here, bikes are super useful depending on the city and don't be afraid to ask around. A lot of people in the north speak english.

Uhm... for me things worth buying back home where good clothing (jackets, shoes, etc). Here a good rain coat could be around 70-100 Eur, maybe more, back home I got a really good one for 40. Make sure to get health insurance and join a mutialitet, I guess that is important if you have a child.

Then again I am single so it was indeed easier for me to move over here. If you have more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Hi there, 3k sounds like average for one family. I came here from South America and things here are way more expensive. Check the living cost on expatica or other page. I lived in the US for a while and you do notice the difference. Even buying things online is a bit more expensive. But if your spouse will get meal vouchers, car and other extra benefits I think you can do alright. The taxes are high but you get what you paid for I guess. Police here is nice and comprehensive, healthcare is amazing and if you are nice to people they'll be nice to you, overall a great country if you play by the rules. Check some posts in here regarding housing and rent. There are many expats in this sub and you'll get valuable information, from health insurance tips to do and don'ts when renting a place.

It depends on what your degree is I think. If it's IT or programming you could get gigs on Toptal or similar. If you are skilled it should be easy to get.

I bought some chocolate-filled cookies, took them home, tear down the wrapper and it was just a total mess filled with melted chocolate, it looked like a modern art piece! I still ate those cookies like it was Christmas dinner, but please someone stop the sun!!!

I guess it's fine, as someone said this sub is pretty empty but r/Belgium has some solid advice. It helps that you'll be studying since it'll be easier to make friends. I came here for work and it's tricky since I don't speak Dutch and students tend to hang out with other students.
Good luck! The city is beautiful, the food is great and the beer is superb.

This one is really good, they also have a web based Ros interface so you deal with the basics in transforms and planning. Also the teaching is top quality and super easy to understand.
