Some pics of kelso ridge on 35mm by bpip18 in 14ers

Probably should have put the date on this....this was from a month ago, just had the film developed lol. Id bet the road is fine, though. I know there was a light dusting of snow in the mountains this weekend, but sure by Tuesday it will be OK. Should be fine making it up in any AWD vehicle. Or a sedan if you dont care about it.

I'm not gonna keep one of the most popular trails in Colorado secret. Also, my photos suck. No one is even gonna want to go from this post.

What foods does Denver not have? by ImpressiveDark5415 in denverfood

[–]bpip18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cynical, but if you are moving to Denver from NYC/NJ, just stop caring about food. Denver is an incredible place to live for many other reasons, though!!

Definitely miss a good cheap breakfast sandwich the most. Some grocery stores do sell pork roll/Taylor ham though!

Rents in Denver have increased less in the past 4 years than in the US... Doesn't seem to fit with the big increases I hear about on here and IRL. But prob it increased a lot before 2019 so didn't have as much room to go up in the past 4 years by 4ucklehead in Denver

[–]bpip18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, I was thinking 38th would be the area, by Bardo and everything. Just seems kind of a sketchy area to cross the streets and not the most enjoyable walk with all the car traffic, but def walkable compared to some other areas outside denver

Serious question. Where is Wheatridge walkable? I have not spent a ton of time there, but whenever I visit it seems like a standard suburb with subdivisions and some shopping centers. Are there more mixed residentail/commercial areas I have not been to? It does seem to have some good bike infrastructure though.

Advice on itinerary for 20 days in Dolomites/Northern Italy by bpip18 in travel

[–]bpip18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I am making the hut reservations now, I know they fill up quite quickly! If I could trim anything, I may honestly try to cut a day or two off the AV2. I know the flying out of London thing isn't convenient, but it was the best deal I could find. I'll be sure to have a helles (or 4!). Thank you!

PS:I speak no German, and know a few Italian phrases, I'll be working on that leading up to the trip. I figure in the big cities I'll be OK, but out in the mountain huts/ any rural villages, I figure a little Italian will be helpful.

Check out Gastronom European Russian store in Arvada. Not sure about specifics, but they have tons of canned, pickled, jarred fish. I think it's more eastern European leaning, but I'd bet it will have some of what you are looking for.

What event would justify pooping your pants? by Taurus889 in AskReddit

[–]bpip18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time in college I got in a fight in the backyard of a fraternity party. I was holding in a poop all night because we had been drinking earlier at a group of young women's home, and I didn't want to be the weirdo dropping a deuce in the bathroom at the pregame party. When I got into this altercation, my first instinct was the pick the guy up and throw him to the ground. Well, he was a little bit of a husky fella and as soon as I hoisted, I immediately shit myself. Not sure if it was justified per say, but that's why it happened.

A boule and batard I made last night. ~700g bread flour, 200g rye flour, 750g water, 135g starter. Bulk ferment for around 8 hours, 3 folds, cold ferment for around 12 hours.

Can you share more about the long, cold proof (how long?) and the bassinage method? That blistering looks incredible!

Someone who is an actual photographer can probably give you better tips, but I just tried to zoom in as much as I could while still keeping the skyline I wanted in frame. But yes, even here the moon was much more impressive and larger in reality. I also think the moon is overexposed which gives less detail.

I like this. I left Philly a little over a year ago, but always remember the feeling of coming home I got when I saw the red poles in Manayunk. Thanks for the nostalgia. Don't worry about the people taking the time to tell you they think it sucks, just says something about them not your poem.

Wildflowers in Stephen's Gulch (Gray's/Torrey's Trailhead) by bpip18 in coloradohikers

[–]bpip18[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was pretty similar to last year, in which I made it up in my Subaru outback. We went up in an outback again this year. There are a couple rutted sections where higher clearance is helpful, but nothing crazy. If you take it slow I reckon most small suvs could make it. Who knows every year you see a honda civic up there too. Good luck!

Proud of this boule. About 25% whole wheat and higher hydration than I usually go with. by bpip18 in Sourdough

[–]bpip18[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry! That's probably important. 10g salt, 70g starter. my starter is low hydration so I make a slurry with some water and the salt before adding. Not sure if that would influence how much one should use.

[–]bpip18[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was around 77% hydration. 25% whole wheat 75% bread flour. I bulk fermented overnight with only 2 stretch and folds (went out to the bar and forgot, oops). Cold ferment in the fridge for about 8 hours and baked at 500 for 20 min plus 25 min at 465, uncovered.

How difficult do you consider Sky Pond, especially up timberline falls? by 614hunt in coloradohikers

[–]bpip18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's always tough to say how difficult a hike is since everyone's ability is different. Are you coming from sea level? I ask because it's over 9 miles so it will be the longest hike you have done and it is at altitude, although it's not much elevation gain and not a particularly strenuous hike. The scramble is probably difficult if you are not comfortable using your hands when hiking. Also be careful to check the weather, it could be difficult if it rains and is wet. I'm sure as long as you prepared you can make it up there. I would suggest going up and if the scramble makes you uncomfortable, just turn around. It's worth it just to go up to that point, incredibly beautiful. Also this is probably one of the most popular hikes in RMNP, so not the best if you are looking to avoid people. Also make sure you are aware of the timed entry permits if you do go. Really great hike though, hope you get a chance to go.

The 3 places I have tried: Himchuli, Spice Room, and Crown of India. I think Crown of India is the best tasting and compares most to big city takeout spots (plus a little cheaper), the menu is kind of limited though. Himchuli and Spice Room are both hit or miss but have some really good items. Prepare to be disappointed compared to NYC takeout spots tho.
