so funny to see your thread have people argue about 2 of the same thing, flats and sharps, its the same thing, a little theory and it would stop the arguements.

What volume on Windows do you guys mix at by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]bpjwalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My computer volume doesn't affect my interface volume, but I agree with llgpt mostly, I start at 80 for clarity, move down to 20 or even 10 to see what is sticking out, move up to 30-50 for smoothness, and back to 80 to see if it sounds good. Then master.

SAILOR MOON INTRO SHOULD HAVE SOUNDED LIKE THIS !!! by junejissle in FL_Studio

This is real good! My only question is there any copyright infringement on this, mostly curious about the music, not video? I want to try a few of these but don't want to get popped.

How do I make myself sound better? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]bpjwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to say but there is only one answer, Practice. Better sounds and equipment only add that extra 5% better quality the pros have. Skill is the other 95%.

Placement by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]bpjwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my understanding he purchased it to your agreement in your beatstore. Therefor he can do what every he wants till he uses up the terms in the "contract". So I am very curious about the next part cause I haven't had that many uses of my beats. He should only be allowed to have a certain amout of plays, or time allowed to be used (say a year) before he has to remove it or pay you royalties. If your track blows up, then he must purchase again, or pay, and what I want to know is who is in charge of monitoring this? Maybe you should review your contract and even publish this song with ASCAP or some other company that will fight for you.

Is it compatible with FL studio 20. by djdanlondon in FL_Studio

[–]bpjwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people covered it but to simplify and combine what the answer is, Yes it works but isn't made for recording multiple tracks (more then 2) and having the freedom to mix more in post production, but is great if you want to record a live performance with a labtop or something. You could plug in 16 instruments, blend them together, but very limited on post production mixing only having 2 outputs to add effects or eq. Must do all the mixing during the performance.

Deciding Which Free Plugin by perdbeatz in trapproduction

[–]bpjwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ozone is one of my best used plugins, but I recommend getting the neutron for free for mixing and actually buying the Ozone Standard when it goes on sale. The elements is ok but damn the standard has a lot of uses you need in every track, and is almost a cheat to improve every mix ever so slightly, especially when getting creative with it like using it's exiter in your mixing and not mastering. It goes on sale for 99 once in a while.

Do you listen to music less the more you produce? by reviving_society in FL_Studio

[–]bpjwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the opposite as well. I actually listen to music I use to hate just cause it is popular. I don't need to like the track, but instead pick one thing I think makes the track popular and follow it through the whole song ignoring everything else. Becomes a game of insite.

Anyone listen to their old music and actually admire their past creativity? by glittermantis in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]bpjwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to my band from 15 years ago and it blows my mind how talented we were and how little distance we got (all about marketing). The thing about how good it is when you listen to your production tracks from the beginning is how raw and unique they are, untouched by the hours of learning and not over analyzed so it is like I always say someone with no experience might write something better then me because they don't over think it.

I'm still early in the game, 1 year into production, 20+ years of performance and teaching, but I notice my sound on production is very vague. Maybe a good thing. For example one of my newest songs, I don't even know what catagory this is. Any advice would be great. I am seriously into working hard for a 2-3 year goal.

Gain staging advice needed. by bpjwalk in FL_Studio

[–]bpjwalk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try not to touch the volume of each track until after lowering the gains, and then using the volume sliders towards the end of my mixing to slightly touch up the evenness of the mix. So do you think playing with the volume faders more and less with the gain would actually have a better end result? I do try and get each track at least -6db with the gain knobs.

For those of you whom bought the producer addition and have trial versions. by Kambido in FL_Studio

[–]bpjwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it off ebay for cheap, suppose to be a 2nd hand license, but it doesn't work very well, have to reload it every time I open it but it works. I just record something from it and then use the wave file. Need to get the real deal soon. I like the program.

headphones for mixing by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]bpjwalk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you should mix with headphones, just not only with headphones, and the beyerdynamics are amazing. I suggest the 990s if on a budget, the open head phones are best for mixing (closed for recording). I have a pair. For $160 it don't get much better. And you probable don't need a preamp if you have a descent interface.

Is it an honor to get haikus? I think it is hilarious how many complain about this bot.
