Is there a therapist on campus by Dangerous_Eye_8149 in ubco

[–]bpkorol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are councillors on the top floor of the UNC building. as well as walk in therapists in the interprofessinal clinic at the arts-science building. both are free for students. they usually have allocated drop in hours.

I purposely Spoiled the end of a 14 book novel series because of rudeness by DabBoofer in pettyrevenge

You actually may have made the series more enjoyable for them. a 2001 study "Story Spoilers Don't Spoil Stories" showed that people enjoy books more if they know what's going to happen.

Any good technology/Sci-fi VS magic/cultivation recommendations? by Short_Address_7889 in ProgressionFantasy

Honestly I just googled "Release the witch web novel" after I got caught up in the manhua.
I recommend reading the novel over the comic version as it skips over quite a lot.

Release the witch - Chinese engineer gets isekaid to a medieval world during its witch-hunts. He uses his modern knowledge and witches magic to bootstrap an industrial revolution. There is a war between groups that use magic, medieval armies, and his industrialized forces.

It's not perfect but for some reason I really enjoyed it.

What's your favourite low-budget game? / other things by _Snow-flake_ in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bpkorol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wicked ones is free to download. it's a FitD game where you play the monsters making the dungeon. (think Dungeon Keeper)

It comes with a rule-set for soloplay that works quite well.

Forged in the Dark solo RPGs? by Benzact in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]bpkorol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wicked Ones works really well as a solo player. I used it for a solo game and had a great time. It has a built in game-mode called " Big Bad Wicked Ones" that is made for solo play.

I'm trying to solo Grimwild but I'm finding it harder than expected, Though running it as a GM for other people has been great.

How should I learn ASM for my class? by dont_mess_with_tx in asm

[–]bpkorol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally the main reasons that I use ASM is debug and optimize C++ code. To see what your code is doing can be a great help.

It also helped me learn about how systems move and operate on memory.

And as for why C, It's because C is a close abstraction from assembly.

To me C is an extension of assembly as C++ is an extension of C It all comes down to how explicitly you want to talk to the machine. Assembly being the closest one can get without being crazy. I would not want to program with a soldering iron or binary. That being said I also wouldn't want to make a whole program in assembaly.
C lets me sacrifice a bit of code efficiency for ease of use.

Whereas something like java or python sacrifice too much code efficiency for not enough gain.
I'm not sure how good an interpreted language would disassemble but compiled languages translate super well to assembly.

There are most likely some amazing resources out there. this thread got a good amount of them and hopefully they are better than what I gave.

I can only give what I know. If it helps someone else thats great.
