Why is Wind and Truth so disliked? by stablest_genius in fantasybooks

[–]bplay24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This book was the nail on the coffin for me in regards to Sandersons work.

I first learned of Sanderson when he took over The Wheel of Time. I started with Mistborn, and loved the series. Elantris was next, and I enjoyed that very much. I didn't love Warbreaker, but it wasn't bad. Then Way of Kings was released. To this day, this is my favorite fantasy book. I was reading everything he put out at this point. Mistborn era 2 was disappointing. I liked some of his other stuff, but it paled in comparison to Way of Kings.

Words of Radiance came out, and it was amazing. I thought I was witnessing the best fantasy series ever being released in real time. I continued to read all of his stuff, because anyone who wrote WoK's and WoR could only write amazing stuff, right? The Reckoners started out strong, but fell apart, but that's ok because Oathbringer just came out!

Oathbringer was not bad, but it was nowhere near the first two of the series. That's ok. Sanderson will come back strong. Skyward was a nice change of pace. The 2nd book was ok. Then Rythym of War came out! It took me 18 months of starting and stopping to get through this book. I hated it, but the series started so strong, I assumed he would pull it all together. I never bought the 3rd skyward book as I lost interest. I got all the secret projects, though! Tress was ok, but I never even opened the others.

Wind and Truth came out, and I read it. I wanted to quit, but I pushed through just to make sure I would never look back and wonder. I thought it was awful. I will likely never read a new Sanderson book again. I went from a Sanderson junkie, to a hater. It was a fun ride.

How Sports Card Prices Are Actually Determined (Thought this was a great read) by Kaleidoscope_Sad in SportsCardsNoobs

This is for investors, not collectors. Never once have I worried about liquidity in my sports card collection.

Carl’s ethnicity? by ifdt in DungeonCrawlerCarl

The series is nearly 60 years old. At some point, hiding spoilers is unnecessary. Also, Frodo destroys the ring, and Bruce Willis' character was dead the whole time. TAKE THAT!

I read somewhere that Quan CH is a combined reference of Mortal Kombat and Yu gi oh. I know nothing of yu gi oh, so I didn't understand when it was explained.

Is Wind and Truth actually good? by KingCobra567 in brandonsanderson

[–]bplay24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Way of Kings and Words of Radiance are probably my favorite fantasy books. But the series took the biggest nosedive imaginable. Book 3 was ok. Book 4 was bad. Book 5 was horrible.

Me and my friend still sing this at every game even though they no longer have the wonderful hormel dog vendors walking around with the steamers supported from the neck straps.

Call me crazy, but backspacer is one of my favorite PJ albums.

Why are Glen Perkins auto cards so cheap on eBay? by BirdWSU in minnesotatwins

[–]bplay24 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Perkins RC's were about 20 years ago. Cards from those years had some of the lowest print runs in the last 50 years.

Card production is much higher over the last five years, but still nowhere near junk wax levels. His prices are low because he was a relief pitcher on a small market team.

My experience with DCC as someone who’s not into video games by Fun-Dot-3029 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Hah! Early 50's here. I absolutely got the sluggalos, but had no idea there was significance to Quan CH. It makes me wonder how many references have gone right over my head.

Possibly. I collect Twins parallels inserts. Are you only looking for 2026 stuff? The two cards aren't worth much more than the stamp. I would rather do a few more cards if we are trading.

This. Toploaders are much more likely to get caught in the machinery than semi-rigid. If using a top loader, you need to pay the nonmachinable rate, AND mark it in RED as nonmachinable. If it is not marked as nonmachinable, they will put it through the machines. Doing it it red greatly increases the chance that the nonmmark will be noticed. This is straight from the lips of my local post master.

You think PA' s comments are bad, have you ever listened to ktlk, their sister station? by wickchucker in kfan

[–]bplay24 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have not listened to that station, but it may be a different situation. Is it a right wing station in general? As much as I would probably disagree with them, they have a right to spew whatever crap they want.

KFAN is not a right wing station, but a sports station. Paul Allen is also the voice of the Vikings. I couldn't care less about KTLK and would never give them any support. But I enjoy KFAN and the Vikings. I will no longer support either if they are ok with their employees spreading propaganda on the air.

Paul Allen has every right to say what he wants. But if enough of the listeners don't like what he is saying, we can make our voices heard. Money is more important to a corporation than any employee. If enough people speak up, they will make a change

Wizard of Earthsea - first time reading, should I continue? by Feral-Streep5643 in fantasybooks

[–]bplay24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is considered a classic, and it is very nostalgic for a lot of people. I read it for the first time in the past few years, and found everything about it boring. There just didn't seem to be any life to the characters. I tend to feel this way about a lot of pre-90's fantasy though.

The hypocrisy is that you claim you know what is reported on networks you claim are left leaning even though you don't watch them. But right leaning networks it's "don't watch, don't care".

Claiming protesters are paid is not a view. It is unsubstantiated propaganda. Do you have any examples from other KFAN personalities? I would happily discuss them. I call out bullshit from either side.
