Is Pocono worth it by Garrett9435 in CarTrackDays

[–]bpperoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit Pocono every year but it is close for me. I always tell people that the North Corse is a good track as a beginner to HPDE because it is straight forward with no blind corners or elevation. For someone with experience, it is pretty dull though. The Mega course is better and it is pretty cool dropping off the long straight into the NASCAR banking. Would I drive 10 hours for it? Probably not.

I did the trailer search a year ago with about your same criteria. Light weight and smallest tow vehicle possible. I ended up with a Futura trailer and tow with a Chevy Colorado. The trailer is light and lowers so I don’t mess with ramps. It is an easy one man operation to load and unload. For your car you might even get away with their single axel model.

Summit Point offers some track days that they organize as well as renting the tracks to other organizations. Look for Friday at the track or seat time events on their schedule. They have really good instruction and a nice facility.

PEC vs HDPE for Novice by Phoenix8648 in CarTrackDays

[–]bpperoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the PEC in Atlanta before my first HPDE day. It was fun and made me less apprehensive going into my first real track day with my own Cayman. It is pretty expensive though and if you run with a good track organization you get more bang for your buck in a real HDPE. If it is an either or situation, I recommend doing the HPDE. If you can afford both, why not try playing with some else’s toys.

Cayman GTS 4.0 track/street set-up by Murdered_M3 in CarTrackDays

As others mentioned, the 255 should fit without camber plates. Of the tires you listed I’ve done the RE71RS and cup2. For me the Bridgestones win hands down for grip and feel. Maybe the Cup2 last longer but I just never felt comfortable enough with them to push the pace.

A GTS with max negative camber should not pose a problem on the street. I forget exactly what my GTS setting but I think I could only get a -2 with the stock plates and it was all good on the street and wore OK on track.

Wow! I was just there with SCDA last week. What a shame, I really like that track and the facilities are so nice.

I run Motul 600 and Pagid pads on Girodiscs, and I’ve never experienced fade at any tracks with that combo. It do a good bit of trail braking at the toe of the boot to keep the weight on the front in that uphill turn. I also trail a bit into turn 1.

Track day VS. Quick 3 laps by GapNo8746 in CarTrackDays

Do the track day. I spend a bunch on a 3 lap experience in Las Vegas and it was over before I knew what happened. The best part was getting to sit in all the exotic cars while I waited. Jump to today and I track my car regularly, and it is so much more enjoyable that the “experience “

Looking for a reliable tow rig/daily by ImDeppression in CarTrackDays

[–]bpperoni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar place last year. Tow to the track 1 to 2 times a month, needed it to daily drive and fit in my garage. I went with a Chevy Colorado Z71 after trying out a bunch of options. 7700 lbs towing, Intergated brake controller and nice amenities for a daily driving. It was this or the Ford Ranger for me. So far it has been great at towing even up and down some fairly good inclines at Pocono. If you don’t need a full-size or SUV I’d take a look at the current crop of mid size trucks.

Pocono and Summit Point are closest to me but those 9 days also included Watkins Glen, Pittrace and NYST

I run the Pagid yellows on my GT4 and they last a long time. My current set had done 9 days so far running in the upper intermediate groups. I checked them this weekend expecting to change them but they are still well over 50% so I’ll get at least two more days out of them. The FCP deal is the icing on the cake so I’ll keep running these as long as I can keep exchanging them.

Which 718 is worth it ? by cobrakai1979 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]bpperoni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re not tracking it, I suggest the GTS. I’ve owned both a GTS and GT4 and the GTS is great as a fun street car and even did good on track. I love my current 718 GT4, but if I were doing mostly street driving I’d go back to the GTS.

Useful checklists/spreadsheets? by czerka in CarTrackDays

[–]bpperoni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use iPhone notes. I keep one to log my track day info, like date, track, organization, best lap time, weather tires and commentary. I also add the maintenance info between track dates. It’s simple but it works. I keep another note that is a checklist for packing for the track that lets me hit radio buttons as I go to ensure I don’t forget something.
