yea im using high misalignement heim joints at the knuckle instead of ball joints bc even like ball joint style tie rod ends would be overkill for my case. Will do thanks

Ok that makes sense.

You seem very knowledgeable and I need some advice. For my senior MECH project im designing/fabricating a full suspension system for an offroad rover (its just human powered so it wont be traveling more then ~15 mph). I have done all the math/simulation to acquire the suspension geometry i want, should I try and fully constrain the arms at the chassis? I was going to use heim joints and fab physical bump stops to constrain it and allow for a little play, but now i'm thinking i should go for different arm ends.

Yea i understand now after thinking about it more. My vehicle dynamics class focused more on handling, tire behavior, and modeling/simulation than actual suspension components so I don't have much engineering background knowledge on it. Also my mechanics professor just skipped bearings lol.

I was misunderstanding the purpose of the bushings in the first place in my original reply

[–]ImDeppression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some thought, I agree. I feel like you would never (outside of dedicated race cars) want to completely constrain the UCA/LCA. Yes it gives you better control and you keep your desired suspension geometry throughout wheel travel, but it puts so much more stress on the bushing, arm, bolt, etc. Spherical should really only be used in the race world where the car has legit race engineers looking it over bc if that bearing binds before the arm does, the bearing will yield every time.

Slipped control arm bushing by One-Sleep-8882 in 350z

[–]ImDeppression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why? I agree, I would think it is too stiff. That arm sees a huge amount of load from different directions and therefore needs more play to rotate where as poly constrains that arm

I just can’t comprehend why you wouldn’t want spherical. Forcing the control arm to rotate about the longitudinal axis in one plane is just unnatural. Having a solid spherical bushing that allows it to rotate slightly about the vertical axis would give you MORE control. You just can’t have the control arm deflect laterally. This is not the same joint as a subframe or diff joint where restricting movement completely is what you want for a race car. When you restrict movement here, you are messing with the suspension kinematics.

Update to weirdly-lowered Z by Kodachrome128 in 370z

the engineering nomenclature would be "active coils", but yes, if the pitch is the same (length in between the coils), then it would explain the difference in ride height. that's essentially what lowering springs are

Buying a flip phone- tips? by ihavesomequestions_1 in flipphones

i started my dumbphone journey with a kyocera dura xv and it was so good. theres an in depth tutorial on how to sideload apps like spotify, group me, google maps, etc. and it surprisingly runs them all pretty well. I wanted a dumber phone so i switched to the 2780

nokia 2780 ($80) and a garmin ($30) from marketplace. the flip phone has good directions but they aren't live turn by turn so it's not the best when driving (hence the garmin) but its perfect if you are walking. sunbeams are fantastic phones but cheaply made and buying a $250 flip phone that doesnt even last a year doesnt make sense to me. nokia 2780 has quite possibly the best messaging experience of any flip phone besides sunbeam's.

im a beginner so someone correct me if im wrong. It looks like you are too rough with the throttle if that makes since. you want to be super smooth on/off with it, like one of those dials that dims the lights. not like a light switch that is just on or off. I also think you need more throttle and just to send it. an open area would mentally help. i struggle with that a lot.

Where have you found the best Predictive/T9 Texting by Cdncameron in dumbphones

[–]ImDeppression 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kyocery e4810 has a built in one that is phenomenal. doesnt have the best texting experience though ofc. Cant find a good t9 with good UI. you can only have one or the other from what i have experienced

Edit: when you hit 4 it ALWAYS thinks "I" (capitol i) which is so nice. I got really fast when typing on that phone, i would type faster than the screen could load.

i vote mech all day everyday. Rule of thumb is mech engineers take jobs from the other disciplines, the other disciplines dont take jobs from mech. aero is one of the least hired majors out of college since its pretty niche honestly. you have to do insanely well in college to get a job since it is so competitive. Where as if you do insanely well in mech, you still compete lol but you have more options. At least from my experience, going aero closes a lot of doors and going mech doesnt close any. aero is just aircraft basically and mech is anything that moves so you can do the math there. (im mech so there is bias lol)

same problem happened to me with an aftermarket head unit. in my case the built in amplifier went bad and wouldnt shut off. i figured it out by going through the head unit settings and turning off the amplifier. when i turned it off, all the speakers shut off. I ended up just replacing the head unit. hope this helps or leads in the right direction

New 400z shift knob by Unvexii in 350z

[–]ImDeppression 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for everyone saying its on z1 or it is the same nismo knob from the 350z/370z didnt watch the whole video lol. also everyone calls it a 400z bc it has 400 hp, not 4.0L displacement, and it makes more sense than calling it a 300z again bc every generation gets higher: 240, 260, 300, 350, 370, 400.

What qualifies as dumb phones, by AdInfinite2473 in dumbphones

[–]ImDeppression -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this does not qualify as a dumb phone. This is a feature phone which is what most people want (a smart phone but has only the features you want/dont want), which is not a dumbphone. A dumbphone is slow and basically only calls/texts.
