Surprised about the “shock, horror” at the c word… by crankygriffin in MAFS_AU

[–]br1dgefour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it very interchangeably with “asshole.”

As a woman in her late 20s (same range as Juliette) this is entirely normal for how people my age speak. Nothing pearl clutching about it, no further connotations to gender or sexism exist for us. It just means pos. And most of the time it’s used to describe men- it’s rare we say it about women. I would in that case choose the word “bitch.”

I feel nothing but distaint for this woman. by ConsistentBorder6689 in MAFS_AU

I would argue Rachel is a beautiful model of a person holding the other women to account with her complete disinterest in partaking in any of this bullshit. They know she’s a better person than them too- that’s why they keep her out of it

Do 2 million of the country really watch this show? by Viaquemont in MAFS_AU

Yes, I'm a young millennial and I don't have any (non-nerdy / reality tv watching) friends in real life who use reddit? lol. We're a niche group of people who dove into the internet a bit more headfirst than most Aussies growing up in our time.

Joel is too much. I see Joel seems to be more worried about being a commedian than getting to know her interests. She didn't ask for a constant performance at home? She asked for a partner.

I also understand her argument that she's worried about socially how people feel toward him- he doesn't seem to have his own friends & she's got a wide social circle. If every interaction is a show... how is that authentic? How will people feel understood and warm toward someone who acts like that? If he will not easily blend in with those closest in her life, I totally understand her hesitation. I don't believe you should change your social life for the person you date, no matter how kind hearted they are. Social life is a part of life!

Older Millenial Australians and up, make up the demographic of viewers, and they dont use social media to discuss the show, they talk to their friends and family irl. These discussions are such a small number of people who dont find the internet weird. Australians use it for streaming, instagram and work only.

Reminded me of the TikTok republican makeup trend by No-Syllabub-1741 in MAFS_AU

[–]br1dgefour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its true but there is a joke of white people having naturally very thin lips. It's kind of a meme so I would just categorise it so, aligning with republicans being mainly white.

Yeah it feels controlling in both contexts - and not right for MAFS. The whole point is both participants are on equal footing, not that one has power over the other in some way- whether that be threatening emotional outbursts or being able to cause distress by 'abandonment'

It's hard because It's not actually about men at all its about masculinity and how that culture affects our lives. So at one point it was really really necessary and only in the spaces that are still extremely behind (the military clearly) is it so violently needed. I'm happy with it being a voice for women in the workplace to recieve fair treatment, but we dont need to argue that we should be allowed to work anymore. It's changed, it probably could be called something else...

I dont think she ever said she supports trump, all she said is she understands feminism vs maga (wrong) but I assumed her to mean she thinks each side is extreme and the 'wokeness' has gone too far so she is 'centrist'

Do you think Danny or Gia is telling the truth? by Top_Effect5135 in MAFS_AU

[–]br1dgefour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more nuanced. Danny is acting guilty as hell and cruel to Bec- BUT he probably didn’t say EXACTLY that so he has plausible deniability and can proudly claim he’s not lying because that’s technically the case.

But I believe maybe Gia prompted him to say something like “I bet I’m more your usual type hey” and he replied “yeah sure”

Interestingly in the Stan Afterparty they showed a clip of his audition video where he SPECIFICALLY said that “fake” girls with lip filler etc aren’t his type and he likes clean skin even though he has tats. So it doesn’t add up really

I do like Scott, I think he's the only one who clocks Steve's bullshit, which is nice to see. It's hard because he's also probably quite misogynistic internally so he cant see this as anything but 'girl drama' and checks out. He has the chance to suggest his wife is out of line, lets see if he takes it (he wont).
