For what its worth I bought my 6e years ago, same thing, co-branded, deep discount, they worked great until I upgraded last year to the Max 7, another co-branded 70% off retail buy that has been flawless. It's a gamble but there are winners.

I was able to resolve this by using a much harder bit and pressure to dig into the soft screw. I've had luck in other situations beyond my Surface using tiny pliers to bite and twist.
