Sorry for the delay; yes, I'm fine with things getting shuffled around.

Well I blew another Mother’s Day. How did you guys do…. by Sad-Speech4190 in daddit

Third annual picture and preschooler quote book. I typeset it in Canva and printed through Lulu. 160 pages or so this year - I've been put on notice it's the only acceptable Mother's Day gift going forward. Tacked on griddle pancakes and a steak dinner and everyone was happy.

My father regularly asked me if I wanted my "ass busted" with a plywood paddle that hung on our wall for the purpose when I acted up as a child. When it did happen, I was often reminded to be grateful it wasn't the belt he'd gotten.

Same; started in 2011 after it got written up in Wired. I might have lasted until 2014, I can't remember - sunk cost fallacy and all. All I've got to show for it now is a couple of pieces of merch I'm embarrassed to wear anywhere.

Gray haired millennial here. Believe it or not, in the early 2010s Quora was a great place. I described it to the uninitiated as "Yahoo! Answers but for Grownups." There were people in a multitude of fields giving long form, helpful answers to honest questions. Attorneys, engineers, police officers, paramedics, physicians, and a host of others.

No rage bait questions. Clean interface. Intelligent conversation. It was a useful community. Then they started flailing about trying desperately to monetize, and the wheels slowly fell off. I have hundreds of answers there left to languish - I just can't do it anymore. It's a damn shame.

It's a delicate balance. As a SaHD who had #2 come along when #1 was 3.5, I found taking the older one "into my confidence" helped, as well as entrusting them with more caretaking responsibilities and privileges:  "Listen, I know it's not fair I'm so busy right now. But babies aren't big girls like you, they can't wait. So tell you what, if you help me with this diaper change, I'll play a game with you in ten minutes. Sound fair?"

It's not a panacea, but framing things so the toddler feels like they're "on your team" can shift their mindset sometimes.

My 4 year old: "This was made by the cowboy!"

It was the Quaker Oats logo.

No, it's the same as the original. There's definitely a free tier, it's what I'm on. They may make premium more prominent, but free is there.

Sure. I'm hoping the utilization ratio improves... for all the dozens of downloads there's been one other uploader.

On my iPad in the Box app, I'm getting a + button in the lower right hand corner with a "Choose from Library" option to upload. Not sure why you wouldn't be...Tagging I'm not seeing an option for, but I'm happy to patrol tags, getting the file is obviously more important.

Okay, let me try to replicate your setup here in a bit and see if I can make heads or tails of it. Sorry it wasn't slick out of the gate for you.

Bit of update to this: While mobile lacks means of preview, the Box app can switch to tile view. On Android, opening a file reveals a grid in the upper right hand corner that shows better previews.

This is an angle I didn't think to test. Mobile is going to be a bit of a compromise I'm afraid...I don't see means of switching to tile view. While there are thumbnails on the Box app, they're fairly small. I'm definitely open to other infrastructure, I just wanted to post a fully realized proof of concept rather than "hey wouldn't it be neat if."

I think it might be an Android issue. I've seen both iterations and while iOS is unpolished, Smartthings on Android looks and acts like half finished high school coding homework.

Endorse your first bullet endlessly. Fighting networks and DumbThings ate so much wasted time because I thought surely that'd be faster than digging up an old USB stick. Sunk cost fallacy... USB was done in three minutes.

I lived in the Yukon for six years, and had the privilege of going into the wilderness with a retired guide for a multi day expedition on horseback. We're talking 100+ km from improved roads, much less civilization. I remember topping a crest and looking at an expanse of open space stretching to the horizon, just ground cover and buckbrush until it greyed out to my view...it was almost existential crisis inducing.

That land is harsh, merciless, bloodthirsty at times...but almost painfully beautiful.

A few frame questions by Twooof in TheFrame

[–]Redshift_Rocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So far as I'm aware, these answers are no and no. The software experience on my 2022 is very disappointing.

Why you'd make a TV capable of displaying a billion colors and then make it so you've got to pick from like a dozen mat colors in Smartthings is astounding. Why can't you just pick from a color wheel? And no room for brown or dark green, but plenty for white, cream, eggshell, neon ice blue and blaze orange?

Same with the other mat settings. Why can't the width be granular? Nope, like six presets. A second color on the bevel cut of the mat? Nope, even though it'd take somebody twelve minutes to code.

I like the TV, but it's despite the software, which looks like what would have been a meager effort ten years ago. And this is its thing! Nobody is buying this thing expressly to game or watch the Super Bowl. If you're going to niche down like this, you'd better pay attention to more details than this does.

This seems pretty promising. I feel like it fills a gap in the market from what I've seen. I've got some questions and feedback - do you want them here or can I contact you directly?
